We paid an pro excavator to clear our front land so we could have a lawn and plant pines (about 500] x 400'). He basically popped all the stumps then manually rough filled the low spots with his excavator and skid steer. For final grade, he had a homemade 3 point attachment that had a 8' railroad track coupled with a roller off of an old flail mower. That was connected to an old Ford 1900 and it left the place pancake flat. I was so impressed I took a few pictures of the setup. He has since moved to Florida and sold all his gear. He used a hydraulic toplink and lots of experience to set the pressure and keep everything flat.
Good job! Yes implements like this are usually pulled from the drawbar. Look up a Dixon harrow if you want to see a fancy version of this same idea. You could add three feet of chain on the back of the railroad tie behind the current chain and add another 20 foot section. Your tractor isn’t even working hard. Load er up. Most harrows don’t pull on an angle. Farmers always use some sort of drag after plowing to smooth the ground back out.
That is very impressive! The suspense was gripping me when you were digging up that… is it rock?, is it root? Is it a space ship?, is it an old TV? lol It was satisfying to watch the land become flat!
I have a rail and I'll be doing this same job as you next year. But I have a 20 ft steel deck haywagon and i will be suspending the rail at an angle underneath the belly of the wagon. I will weld 2 links on one of the wide edges and the other will be contacting the ground. Angle chain will keep the rail from swinging back under the strain. I've used an angle scraper under the belly of my tractor and its a very good leveler between the 2 axles.
I don't know about Kabota (it looks like) tractors but from experience JD 3point lift arms are strong enough to lift the front tires clean off the ground say if your trying to oh IDK pull too big of a stump with a chain 😬, anyway a thought... take a couple sticks of tube steel say 3x4 ( something to slide over the ends of the life arms ) drill a hole to pin them onto the lift arms then hang the rail with a 3 foot length of chain off the end. 1 gives you the ability to lift the rail off the ground 2 you can still angle it of you want to 3 you'll get MUCH less drift side to side. IDK just food for thought :)
If you can, get your hands on a hydraulic landscape rake for the front of your tractor. it'll gather up most of those smaller rocks and save your back.
A little late for this, but you want to slope the ground to the trees. Not sure where you are located but for those un snow country or a place with rain it will help lessen puddles and wet spots. Good job
Hi and thanks, however, those trees are actually uphill from the wood yard, most of the property slopes toward the west/road. Fortunately I don't seem to have any standing water issues in that area, and additionally our ground is very sandy, so things drain very well. Our road is a dirt road, and it could rain for a week, within one full day of sunshine it's dusty again...

When I lived in Florida even if ya wanted rocks, for anything, you had to buy them. But for the most part I agree.
