    It's very unfortunate that many people in this country don't see themselves being in a society.

    Most Americans don't realize that this problem is much more significant in the east of the country. All entry level jobs in the Midwest and throughout the east coast only really pay $8-$11 an hour now. I just moved to Colorado from a life of trying to make it in Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio and I was instantly able to pick up a new entry level job making nearly double what I made before with similar cost of living and without showing any previous experience and without references. The economy is not there for the average young adult to thrive in the east. In the east it really, really is feudal capitalism/corporate slavery. The specific people here in Colorado seem to treat each other much more decently than in the mid-west as well, leading to better mental health outcomes on a large-scale. Employment in Colorado put my previous work experience into perspective for me, and I was able to realize my previous employment was abusive and I was able to get a PTSD diagnosis and get help for myself.
    Although, all of this being said i don't know how it is for other states.

    We are the only industrialized country that does not offer paid leave. It should be offered not just for new parents, but those of us caring for an aging parent or a disabled family member. People can decide to have children, but caregivers usually have no choice.

      Bosses are even sympathetic and accommodating re DOGS AND CATS, but not an employee’s OWN NEED to leave early or be late for a medical appointment FOR THEMSELVES or have paid time off to care for parents.

    This story keeps saying parental leave. It should just be the dads. Cause maternal leave is still available. If u have a kid cut out of your body, you get time off. If your a sperm donor, no time off

    The example they provided is from 20 weeks to 8 week FULL paid leave. The state maternity leave cover around 50% income during 3 months maternity leave. So basically his company gave him additional 50% extra during those two months. Why is he complaining? Not a lot of company give guarantee 100% pay for two months! If he still see that as an issue, having children is not a good decision. I am in California, I received 60% pay during my 3 months maternity leave. State pay majority of it, my company just give me around $110/week extra to fully satisfied their promise of 60% pay.

    What about the employees who don’t have kids? All the leave taken by breeders means they do other people’s jobs for years on end. When do they get some paid leave?

    Hulu guy should have unlimited pto, so 8 weeks plus at least 4 weeks pto that's protected..12 weeks doesn't sound like much of a reason not to be a dad.

      What a joke. Dad’s body isn’t recovering, and infant isn’t physically depended on his body. Dad is supposed to provide the roof over mom and baby’s heads by WORKING. Customer service rep doesn’t even sound like a job that can support a child. 😂

    People need to stop complaining, any time off paid is better than none, I got zero paid time off when both my kids where born. I was forced to go back to work immediately like the next day. bye the way my wife at the time only got 8 weeks as a nurse. shortly after my second was born, I told my employer I needed some mental health time off for me and so I could support my family they told me that my position was to important to allow me the time I needed so the fired me. Wisconsin being a right to work state they could just do that to me... so sad.. and when that happened my personal life fell apart my wife resented me, she told me I was falling her and our kids all I wanted was some support and it was not there. I'm now divorced and have never recovered for those years. I am a shell of what I was. even 1 week off would have helped. So don't complain that you only get 8 weeks or any time off. I truly believe that or society is doomed. I'm only alive today, so I can raise kids do not fall into the "work to live trap" that our society has created.

    The majority of working Americans don’t even get paid leave at all, and this guy is complaining about 20 weeks paid (paternity). 8 weeks paid is pretty standard for paternity leave, and 12 weeks for maternity leave. This particular example is more of an exception than the rule.

      Have you done any research about how other developed countries pull off parental leave and why they do it? The pros and cons for society from an economical and mental health perspective?

  • @flautalee3090
    @flautalee3090 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hope this fails. So now there are more worker shortages and some companies are cutting back on parental leave. No wonder people are resigning!

  • @kaitlyn6853
    @kaitlyn6853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is fine honestly. Every policy has its pros and cons and while this one provides more production in the short-term, it guarantees better benefits in the future or great depression as the economy copes with the incoming lack of labor, whether it stems from lack of will/ability to work or lack of will/ability to reproduce it doesn't matter.
