  • As a foreigner traveling in India I explore Vellore fort with friendly Indian locals that I meet along the way. India's new generation of warriors standing on the historic remnants of the great empires of old. My first impressions of Tamil Nadu and before enting the fortress I have a nice south Indian thali lunch for the first time.

Hi Pedro, Nice to see you exploring the places and food of India.
When you visit the South Indian Vegetarian Hotels, Please note the following:
    1. Commonly, a few spoonsful of rice are mixed with pickle or chutney to begin the meal with ( you can ask for ' ghee' ( clarified butter ) to add to it ).
This rice with pickle or chutney will be hot and sour and will act like an appetizer.
    2. Then the rice is mixed with curries one after the other and eaten.
    3. Then the rice is mixed with dhaal ( or boiled lentils with leafy vegetables ) and eaten again, if you like, with ' ghee '.
    4. Then the rice is mixed with sambar or rasam and eaten.
    5. Finally rice can be mixed with curd or yogurt ( to relieve any burning sensation caused by spicy food that is eaten ).
    6. People can then complete the meal, by eating one or two sweets.
You can enjoy the taste of each of the items when they are not mixed together and eaten on their own with rice or chapatis ( flat bread )!
You can also eat Paan ( made of betel leaves ) after eating the sweets. ( helps digestion ).
As mentioned, the above is practiced commonly but India is a free country and you can eat how you like and what you like anyway!
    Best wishes.

There is a scientific reason behind South Indian Lunch meal, especially in Tamilnadu, We Start lunch meal with rice and sambar(lentil based veg soup) and rice with Rasam(Soup kind) improves digestion and has a lot of nutrition in it, last we eat rice with Mor(butter milk with special ingredients) more for digestion and cool down spicy food we eat before, Other vegitables and papad to add extra flavours, Hope you enjoyed the Tamil traditional lunch meal.

Hi Pedro, have been watching your videos from past month when you started exploring Bengaluru and I appreciate your work. I would like to share some information about Vellore fort.
Vellore fort was built by Vijayanagara Kings of Karnata Kingdom, also known as Vijayanagara Empire in the 16th century. Vijayanaga Empire ruled from their capital Vijayanagara, which is present in modern-day Karnataka. The fort was built using locally available granite, as this region is known to have rich amounts of black granite. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Elements of Vijayanagara temple architecture include Gopura (towering gateways), Mantapa (long pillared halls).

Not everyone who smiles on Indian streets is friendly or has the best intentions towards a 'Gora' or fair-skinned white individual. You could've been easily mugged by these boys in the secluded section of the fort and none would've come to help. Pls enjoy India but do so with a high sense of alertness and try not to get too familiar too soon buddy.. Wish you all the luck. Hope you come to Jaipur to visit and if so please do get in touch. Sir actually in every indian city has a rich indian look on either sides of city but the thing is you have to find it either it may be chennai , mumbai , delhi , hyderabad , kolkata , Bangalore, Ahmedabad, gandhinagar , surat , agra ,.....etc list is too long
Actually you can book a five star or three star hotel in every indian city( not just by rating but to actually by searching & asking by people ) or the IT area or monumental area around that city or some beautiful temples with their rich history & definitely you will experiencing the best part of that city & you can either heir a taxi for traveling & ask him the best places to visit by
