I was 51 years old when I became paralyzed. I lost my son 5 months prior. I can’t even get into my chair without a hoyer. This was 2 years ago. My emotions are all over the place. I finally got home in 2023. Only 5 months home. ( July-Dec)I found you by mistake. I love your honesty and truth.

You're in my prayers, Heather! I can't imagine what you've faced in such a short period of time. I pray that you find all the support and strength you need, when you need it. My injury 22 years ago started a spiritual journey that's shown me so much more about us that I didn't know before. I know that your son is in an amazing place right now, as are all the others that have gone to the other side. I pray you'll be flooded with a peace that surpasses understanding! God bless you!!! ❤

Brittney, this video might be the most important one you've made so far. That's quite an achievement, considering how valuable and useful all your videos are.
Everyone has rough days but, because of the way we've been socialised, we hide the hurt or deny that things are bad. You've given us permission to say, 'Yes, things are tough right now', and that is huge.
    Thank you.
Have a great 2024, in which the good times are many and the rough times few and far between.

I have so many comments and I’m not even done the video.
    1. Sounds like a damn successful year to me.
But the reason I stopped right here was because of the “squirrel” comment. 😂 I am EXACTLY the same. I’m watching this video as one of the 100 things I’ve been doing for the last 4 hours when my only goal of the morning was to do a workout. You’re the best!

You are a breath of fresh air! I’m a mid 70’s grandpa who’s had a few wheel chair and crutches experiences (helicopter, motor cycle crashes, latter and stair falls, cancer etc. my wife of almost 50 years has had many operations and uses wheeled walkers with a seat, back, shoulders, knees operations and cancer. Your teaching/explaining videos are very informative and thank you for being real. I commend your husband and admire all of your beautiful family and what you’ve accomplished.
I just subscribed and hope 2024 and every new year to come bring you more success.

Rock bottom can be one of the strongest foundations on which to build your life, or the last step in it. After listening to your chronological recounting of the milestones you have added to that foundation building your life, I’m envious of the strength and courage you have come to posses, in this emotional and physical roller coaster we call life. You’re a beautiful young person, keep on doing what you’re doing, you’re moving the needle even when you think your not.🙏🏻

AWESOME VIDEO!!! Listening to this video was just what I needed at this point in time. I've been feeling very down and depressed lately, thinking "I was the only one who felt the way I do." This video showed me just how "normal" I actually am and for the first time in WEEKS I smiled. So, thanks so much, Brittney, for taking the time to do this video. And I truly mean that from the bottom of my heart. You helped me out of a pit that could have been dangerous. Really. Hope you have the best ever year in 2024.

A kinda mind-blowing video. Lemme explain. Since you’ve only had this channel for 3 years, I (and probably others) think of you as this incredible independent woman. I guess I just assumed that you could do all those different kinds of transfers, etc since soon after your accident. It is eye-opening to learn that a lot of what you do now took a lot of time, skill, determination, and sheer guts to become the person you are today! Incredible who you are today! And we are happy for you!

It does bolster my courage to hear you say you've had shitty days, shitty experiences and sometimes it's hard to keep plugging along when from the outside you look so capable and brave. I tried your idea of making a list of things mastered over the years. Who cares how long it took, it's not a race. It's life. We are all different, it takes how ever long it takes. ❤

This is a short story. But it speaks for you.
One day in my 1st year of being in a wheelchair, I was drinking coffee.
    And no one around.
I was talking out loud to the Lord. And I had this genuine question. A question that had me really care about.
I asked "God, why can't I be normal? Why am I so messed up?"
And God didn't speak out loud of course. Cuz I'm not that crazy😊
    But I felt it.
    I felt this reply.
"What do you mean you're not normal? Everyone's messed up!"
The moral of the story is just that Brittney.
You're inspiring because you connect to us on an equal level.
I don't hold you to a higher standard than what you may have for yourself.
I look up to you and your content because you have what I look to be.
You're someone who connects! So keep connecting! And keep being messed up for the better.
    Enjoy!

My goodness five minutes into your video and you have done more than most achieve in their entire year, (or ten). My sole achievement was to get the work experience primary school children in the probate office to put down their colouring pencils and actually issue a probate certificate. The main thing for most of people to get out of 2024 will be the ability to greet 2025.

    • @EmpoweredPara

Walmart ad? I gotta go find it. Enjoy the lil things in life and everything will come together. “Plugging Along”? I think you do sooo much more than that when you add up the whole year! I mean, for example, how many people do I know that are on a Prime Time National Network TV Show? I know a ton of people, and nobody else does this!
Thanks for the reminder of anxiety. My problem also. I went to classes to learn breathing exercises, and I should really do them waaay more often. Mine crop up especially when travelling or thinking of travelling.
Keep in mind Brittney that you also do really well in the one thing that I think is most important - you (and your husband) are raising 2 amazing children. As a couple that couldn’t have children, we are so envious, and sooo happy for you! You should be very proud.
Yes, you have changed our lives as well, and we fervently hope that you will be an important part of our lives for years to come. You are doing great!
Happy New Year Brittney and to your family!!

Thank you so much for this video. I became paralyzed at 46 and am constantly feeling like I’m behind the curve and weak and undisciplined. This sucks and I struggled with anxiety before becoming disabled and now it’s off the charts. I do the “comparison” with other disabled folks online and know they have bad days too but it’s hard not to compare. One day at a time and I know one thing at a time but seriously, having to relearn how to out on pants again stinks. Thanks again and love all your videos. Keep on keepin’ on.

Happy New Year 🎉! You've had a success in 23 I'd say. There's no way that you can measure the impact you (and your friends) have on those of us who follow you.
I regained a tremendous amount of independence immediately after my injury. I pushed myself to extremes & had positive outcome. However, now I've worn out some parts & they can't be fixed anymore so I have to find new ways to do things. There's no way to age gracefully with a SCI that I have found. We are living longer...The older I get the more anxiety I have. When I was younger, I set my mind to doing something & nothing could stop me. Now, I analyze the situation to the extent that I hardly take a risk anymore. And likely miss out on some amazing experiences. Maybe by you going to Mexico I will see that it's ok to go!
Keep doing what you're doing! I'm not the only one who greatly appreciates you!

You're right just gotta keep plugging away from the time we open our eyes in the morning. Life in a wheelchair is full of uncertainty.

Something funny about people is that we ALL (okay …..many of us) tend to present much better PUBLICLY than our personal struggles. It’s all a matter of degree. For example,I have few “challenges”, because I have fair to middling functionality, however as a consequence of your paraplegia yours are much greater, however blokes like me would be oblivious without you informed us.
Everything in life is just what it is, BUT how we deal with it is often a choice, to an extent. That para I knew who was an owner driver and loaded his own loads of steel (coil, billets and rod) AND chained them down etc was a complete inspiration to me ……how the hell he managed is almost super human, yet he always presented as happy and well within his limitations.
I’m damned sure he had to fight hard.
From the outside looking in, you, too, are such an inspiration.
    Just saying.

Hey.. define success?? Its so subjective... psychology plays a huge part in our day to day, especially if the catalyst is unresolved trauma... anxiety is a huge unconscious catalyst when trauma is involved as are a myriad of other trauma states experienced as kids... I see so much judgement/ expectation put on people, to be something, to prove something, to be a role model for something all to make someone feel better about themselves be that from within oneself or from other people... being an inspiration for other people could be seen as a coping mechanism to avoid dealing with trauma or other impediments... even to the point of self sacrifice or addiction... how can one truly know our unconscious and conscious states in our pursuit for "success".. if its not driven by latent trauma.... why isn't success define like, what else did I find out about myself today? Was I kind to myself today? Did I listen to my thoughts or feelings today? Did I hear what my heart was saying today?.. these are more humbling things, not like those where we're seeking success from the outside in the fleeting moments to lift us up.. this is egoic...

Question please - can you transfer into someone else’s vehicle? So you’d have to transfer “leftwards” into the passenger seat, not “rightwards” into the drivers seat. I’m not thinking of your husband’s truck or your parent’s vehicle where I am thinking they would probably lift you in. I’m thinking more of a friend’s vehicle. Or does that situation never come up for you?
