It makes me very sad to hear that people themselves, or people from the outside looking in, would consider dying rather than living with a disability. My wife who is disabled certainly never thinks this way. From what I have learned over the past 3 years is that you (Brittney) have made yourself a wonderful life, with some challenges for sure. But you have made this wonderful life for yourself with determination, experimentation, grace and acceptance of some things. I only wish that more people would do what you have done. And, in knowing you, you have enriched my life! And I’m sure of many others as well.
I had a “friend” say to be after seven months in the hospital, “I’d roll myself to the middle of a bridge and jump off”. That friend knew nothing about me. About the daily fight and battles and the will to succeed. I love the spirit and resolve you both have and so willingly share
I was born with spina bifida at 3 months I had spinal meningitis. leaving me with learning disabilities. You could say I had a great start in life. But I had partinets that would not give up on me. I was slow to learn to do things but I learned. Being a farm kid I was expected to work like my Brothers. I never had time to feel sorry for myself. Almost a year ago I fell down the steps going into my grade. Breaking L1 and L2. at 60 I had to learn to re-live my life it has not been easy. But I have never wanted to not live through it all
Veterans have been told when they asked for financial help from the government for a ramp, they were told they could do Maid , but couldn't get funding for adaptations. This was well televised on Canadian news
I think everyone should be able to decide for themselves. Perhaps 8 days is too short, but people everywhere (I'm in the California) should have the fundamental right to control when they die. Neither disabled nor able-bodied people should be imposing their personal views on others.
I agree in personal autonomy, it's just so hard watching people make that choice, especially when they are in a similar situation or have a similar disability. Makes me feel so sad for their pain and hopelessness.

The amount of times I've heard "If I were in your situation, I'd kill myself" is staggering. Umm...thanks? Not sure what they expect us to say lol

Geeze....that's ridiculous.
I would love to have this conversation more with you, because in Quebec our health care system for people with disabilities is so broken
It is in so many places. I assumed Quebec would be better than alberta though!
I hate being ghosted, it’s so rude and very unprofessional
So rude!
