Wait.... ITS A GAME?? I've been using the soundtrack as ambiance for roll play and other games but it never dawned on me that it itself was from a game lol
You have very nice voice, interesting critical thoughts, high quality videos (in terms of immersion in what you're talking about). I think the thoughts could be interesting both for gamers and for developers. I'm glad I accidentally found this channel. Waiting for new videos
I picked it up a while ago, mainly because the concept and overall style _really_ appealed to me. I was a little sad to bounce off the gameplay. I wouldn't say it was bad or anything (though yeah, the UI really isn't great), but it's something I'd need to be in a very particular mood to truly want to dig into. I also agree the gameplay feels a bit more suited to a tabletop board game I'd enjoy with a couple friends, more than a solo video game. but still, wow. the hand drawn art looks great, and while the story is definitely on the minimalist side, the overall pitch is incredibly compelling.
What do you think of the MDA Framework for analyzing games? What you call "mood" would be covered by the "aesthetics" part in this system, and emergent gameplay properties by the "dynamics" part.
I didn't know of it until you brought it up. But from a quick look on the Wikipedia, it seems pretty similar to my usual approach of Mechanics-Aesthetics-Narrative. They fold narrative into aesthetics, and separate out mechanics and dynamics (which I lump together as "Mechanics"). All in all, seems like a decent lens through which to examine games. I envision Mood as more all-encompassing, taking into account the narrative, aesthetics and gameplay as a whole. It's funny that you bring this up, because I'm looking to expand/refine the concept a bit more in this week's video. 😅
As someone who doesn't normally like to subscribe, and also generally doesn't enjoy review content, after watching this video it was an immediate subscription. Your script was eloquent without being overwrought, the content was well presented, and I found your analysis compelling. I hope your channel grows to match your skill. And now I have to take a good look at this game that I definitely don't have time for :P
@@Infernal_Reviews Do not mistake it for the more recent Children of Doom one, though it might be interesting to watch that after. The video I'm talking about is 10 years old by now.
I was wondering why youtube recommended me this video, but after few clicks - you're the dude who made the video about Mario Maker troll levels on your other channels. *Now* I remember you.
This is a wonderful summation and introduction to a beautiful and strange game. I never would have found this on my own, and it looks like a very interesting experience.

Glad you enjoyed this, and thanks for the kind words!
I've always wanted to give this game a try. But felt I need a cold winter day uninterrupted to learn it.

Whoever made this has definitely read Dai Dark and Dorohedoro.

Thanks for the kind words and the sub!
Also have you watched Errant Signal review of original Quake from bunch of years ago? He also claims it to be a similar 'mood game'.
I have not-I'll have to check it out. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

vibe. evocative.
This game makes me think of the board game called Cathedral, except cranked up to eleven... hundred.
Volume is considerably lower than the video proceeding this, just a consideration

Indeed I am! 😊
