I've seen the live action version a time or 2. Though when I watched Be Our Guest on here the other day, it looked and sounded like it was a rehersal that they filmed (for some reason) and decided to have it be part of the actual film. To be honest, Lion King, Cinderella, and Mulan are pretty much the only live action versions I haven't seen. Aside from bits and pieces.
"To sit alone and listen to angsty music. You got him in his teen years didn't you." It's scary how true that statement is. In the OG Disney "Beauty and the Beast" the narrator said, "that the rose would continue to bloom until his 21st birthday." In the song "Be Our Guest" Lumiere sings "10 years we've been rusting," so that means the Beast had been cursed when he was just 10-11.
Tim Curry is one of those actors that always captures the audience regardless of how bad the movie is. Just like Gary Oldman, Christopher Lee and Kathy Bates.
That organ terrified the living crap out of me when I was a kid. Whenever he was about to appear I ran out of the room straight away. Still gives me the creeps to this day.
@@animebrat76 I remember watching Ferngully back in 2000s and the main villain of the film named Hexxus (voiced by Tim Curry) always terrified me as a child, especially his giant skeletal form. His smoggy form was scary enough, but the skeletal form? Pure nightmare material.
He hasn't done that since 2018 after destroying an entire dimension that's somehow more obsessed with Christmas than he is, he even killed a pregnant queen

While I fully agree that Tim Curry is the best part of this movie, I am thoroughly disappointed that he failed to mention his best line in the film: “They can’t fall in love…IF THEY’RE DEAD!!” My wife and I have literally been quoting that line throughout all of 2021 because it’s hilarious!
Beast is one of the most interesting Disney characters IMO For much of his life he’s a spoiled, hot tempered and somewhat toxic person I personally don’t have a problem with him acting obnoxious in the direct to DVD movies since it is meant to show how much he grew during his time with Belle
16:46 - 17:01 🥺😢... My God, these two are so wonderful in their singing! Belle made me fall for Paige O'Hara, Rita from Animaniacs made me fall for Bernadette Peters, and now this combo has made my heart overflow!
From IMDB: Forte was likely the inspiration for Candeza in the 2017 live action remake of Beauty and the Beast. The only differences being is that Forte was cursed into a pipe organ and serves as an antagonist while Candeza was cursed into a piano and serves as a supporting character.
This movie is a guilty pleasure for me. I know it doesn't hold a candle to the original, but Christmas and Beauty and the Beast are two of my favorite things, and I watched it all the time as a kid, so I'll still watch it every now and then.
I am too ruined, and my childhood innocence of enjoying Disney films is long dead. Three points: -Belle has some cute-ass legs during the skating scene. -Chip is getting an up skirt shot while hopping next to Belle. -After everyone turned back to human form, it is logical to assume that the organ room contained the corpse of an elderly musician with a significant chunk ripped out of him.
I gotta say, it was pretty weird to see the prince not like getting a book as a gift. Given the time period when this story is supposed to take place a book would be a pretty valuable item, what with the printing press being a relatively new thing. Plus he's a prince, he's RICH, a book is pretty much the only thing you CAN get him as a gift. He could easily buy or likely already has almost any material thing you could possibly think of, so the only new experience you can give him is whatever story is in that book.
that's kinda the point though: he was such a spoiled brat that not even a item as valuable as a book was good enough for him and that greediness was just one mark out of what was likely many against him that got him cursed. he was not a good person so he became a beast.
Beauty and the Beast: An Enchanted Christmas is a decent Disney sequel that doesn't live up to its 1991 predecessor but sure is a good sequel(not great but good). It is one of my favorite Disney sequels.
It’s way better than the first movie The animation quality is superb but in the first beauty and the beast it looked only okay That’s you That’s how you sound
I think it was halfway passable. If it were a canon story it would really reflect poorly on Belle and the Beast’s relationship given how harsh he was to her (during a time the first film tried to make him show improvement rather than backsliding) and how docile and subservient she was in return.
Sad thing is, I've seen that nutcracker movie ( I have a lot of sisters okay), and honestly, it's not that bad; better than the one with the Nazis anyway.
@@artsman412 Barbie in the Nutcracker is unironically one of the best film adaptations of The Nutcracker you'll probably ever find. It's even better than the one Disney put out back in 2018! (Yeah, remember that one?) Disney has the better visuals for sure, but Barbie has the better plot, characters, Tchaikovsky usage, and developed love story. 💂♂️🥜
@@DJtheBlack-RibbonedRose Now I'm hoping for him to actually review that version so I can figure out why the hell these Barbie movies keep flip-flopping between good to crap as fast as a Republican congresswoman switching her opinion on vaccines between an entertainment network spouting fake news and an actual news outlet
I've always had a soft spot for this film. I know its not great or even that good. But Paige O Hara and the rest of the cast are charming as always. Forte is a decent villain. And i kind of like that they showed Adam's transformation into the beast
I think it’s awesome who they got to voice the Enchantress, Kath Soucie. She’s a voice acting juggernaut, and with the show Gargoyles debuting between the first movie & this sequel it’s fun to imagine the Enchantress is one of Oberon’s Children. Her sequel design even looks like a mix of the Wyrd Sisters and Princess Katherine.
I remember really liking this movie when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in well over 10 years, and I only have a vague memories of Belle writing the story, Belle falling into the frozen lake, and the pipe organ
I came down with Covid last December and spent a decent amount of the season in the hospital on an oxygen tube. I managed to make it home for Christmas. But I missed a bunch of celebrating. Needless to say, I got a bunch of catching up to do. Critic’s Christmas reviews is as always a welcome addition to my Christmas season.
The biggest issue with this movie is that it doesn't fit with the continuity where the Beast is getting better. I think it would fit where Beast and Belle are having a nice time in the library and maybe spend some time outside where Belle realizes it's the day before or even the week of Christmas. And Beast being the person he is would try to evade it because Christmas is too touchy for him, but Belle being the good influence would understand why but then brings up memories of her father and Christmas. The making snow angel parts would still be there but instead of getting angry he would just be self-conscious and leave to go back to his room. From there you still have forte trying to break them up, but this time it's not only one sided that Belle wants to bring back Christmas but both want to. But Beast needs to realize he doesn't want to be held by his insecurities and self-hatred. They both could be making their plans in secret, while trying to keep it in secret. Belle could still go to the woods in secret, but Beast still finds out and he could go to rescue her because he feels guilty she is doing this for him. Belle still gets in trouble but instead of being put in the dungeon it would be in her room where she's getting healed. And Beast calls off Christmas because he thinks him giving into unbanning his Christmas harmed Belle. He then gives into his self-hatred after almost seeing the woman he loves almost get herself killed he then stops when he sees the story. And again stops listening to Forte. And course the climax goes as well. Also I think they should have done more research into how they celebrated Christmas in the 17th century in France.
My problem with this movie is how it handled Belle's interactions with the Beast from the original movie. First, she never tried to make him do things he didn't want to do. She compromised with him. Second, if the Beast was acting like a jerk, she responds in kind. When he's being nice, she responds in kind. She treats him fairly. (Yes I stole that from Lindsay Ellis.) Third, when they grew closer together it was both of them working at it. Here, it was Belle doing all the work. This movie completely changed the dynamic Belle had with the Beast and made it worse. Especially with the Beast locking her in a dungeon and Belle just accepting it. That's out of character for both of them.
Precisely. Appreciate the Ellis shout out because the misunderstanding of their dynamic is a struggle the other sequel AND the remake have. In this, their relationship radildly switched from "You start shit and I'll CONTINUE shit" to "I can Fix Him."
I honestly never got why she didn't just tell Beast "hey, I only went out there because the Organ told me to go out there to find a good tree" Beast knew they were gonna celebrate Christmas, why keep the tree thing a secret?
She just regained consciousness after a near death experience in the frozen river. She wouldn’t have the energy to argue with him in the dungeon scene in that moment.
The fact that Wednesday is the first day of December does mean we will have more time than usual for some Christmas cheer- though that depends on if he decides that December 29th is still timely for a Christmas video.
I always found Forte a better villain than Gaston. The later was just a self-centered egotistical and potential abusive husband hellbent on dating the ONE girl that wanted nothing with him while Forte had this delusional attachment to his master and prefered to sacrifice his humanity to not lose the one who appreciated his skills, even if often it felt like he was the beast's "confort food" musician. Plus while Tim Curry is always a delight as a villain, the brazilian dub gave Forte such deep, booming voice and it always echoed as well, so he really felt like a much bigger threat compared to Gaston. Although I always hate the "bolted to the wall" because thats not how organs work :P Forte would be more like a tree rooted within the very walls and floor of his room since he would need a bigass air pump to work. He would never be able to fall like that.
Come to think about it, the idea of the Beast having to contend with Maleficent has tremendous potential. It'll never happen as long as Disney is the way it is now, but I hope one of their writers explores that idea one day.
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 It's nowhere near as good as the original but it's pretty entertaining and has some pretty nice animation considereding many of the early DTV Disney movies looked like crap.
The hatred that the former Nostalgia Chick felt for this movie was pretty much a weak insignificant word to her... and she pretty much still does and I do agree with her that this movie is the very antithesis of the message behind one of Disney's original classic Beauty and the Beast.
Mmm, it's even worse when you find out during Hell's Tragical World, Tim Curry was playing a Beast who treated his Beauty, Anastasia, 10x better than Adam does to Belle in both of these midquels combined. 🙃
Oh man, after all the intense backlash that Home Alone 6 (titled as Home Sweet Home Alone) had gotten on Disney+, I can already predict that Doug will do a Nostalgia Critic review of Home Alone 5 (titled as Home Alone: Holiday Heist) and Home Alone 6 during December of the year 2021!
Probably not. He's already committed to doing Polar Express this year and wants to do another "unconventional Christmas movie" like Die Hard or Batman Returns (I'm thinking it'll be Gremlins).
I've never seen this, but I could definitely argue that, as a holiday special, they really made it fit organically in to the canon of the first film because, iirc, they didn't really go in depth on the finer details of the curse; far as I can tell, they just said something to the effect of "It just kinda happened one night." I don't think they specified when, so the direction the narrative took works, imo. Also, yeah, as a fan of transformation, I can get behind Forte's motivation: he's not just evil for evil's sake...there's more of a concrete reason WHY he's so evil here and it makes him feel like he'd belong in Disney's classic rogue's gallery of great villains. Course...that being said...WHY WAS THIS DUDE NOT A BOSS FIGHT IN A KINGDOM HEARTS GAME!? We have a literal Kingdom Hearts RHYTHM title, for chrissake! We got to fight a freaking DOOR (which is honestly one of the better fights in the second game), but not a silver-tongued, magically-imbued Tim Curry Pipe Organ!? WTF, NOMURA!? O.o Ya know, btw, considering the context of the castle's denizens, Forte's death is actually kinda gruesome when you think about it; seriously, what would YOU consider the keyboard to a pipe organ be to the human body? To me, that sounds like Beast effectively just went the Crimson Eagle route! For a villain death, that's pretty freaking metal! O.O
What Could Have Been: It was originally meant to be a straight-up sequel, with Gaston's brother Avenant (a Shout-Out to the 1946 film of the fairy tale) as the antagonist intent on avenging Gaston's death and ruining the lovers' lives. It was changed to a midquel and Avenant was scrapped, his role instead given to the pipe organ when the filmmakers thought the audience would be more interested in the Beast than the Prince.
I remember watching this on video over twenty years ago. While it isn't perfect, it certainly has more heart and warmth than many PureFlix and Hallmark Christmas movies I've seen. Having a great cast and soundtrack doesn't hurt either.
He had to have been 11. It's clearly stated in the first movie that they've been cursed for 10 years and that the beast had til he was 21 to find love. 21-10=11. I really don't understand why this is up for debate.
5:30 Huh... You know, maybe I was a weird kid, but for some reason when she made the Snow Angel and he looked down, I always thought when he looked at the silhouettes and said "that's no angle, that's a monster" he was referring to her "angel" and how it reminded him of the Enchantress. I mean, it seems obvious now that you say it, this is just another case of him feeding into his self loathing but I always found the comment interesting that he'd see both the "angel" and "monster" next to each other and this be a foreshadow to his PTSD we see later in the full flashback
You forgot Tim Curry was in “The Story of Santa Clause” too. I always liked the music in this with Stories being my favorite. Never really payed attention to the other movie issues.
As a kid, this movie was my introduction to Beauty and the Beast, I saw this Christmas spinoff before the original. I was both entertained and confused...
I'd guess that part of what makes him a great actor is Tim's dedication a lot of those movies are sooo unnecessary yet Curry is so committed, giving straight to DVD sequel of beauty and the beast his "A" material
I would say partly his range. Serious comedic villain tragic live action animated etc he’s done it all and memorably, from it and legend to clue and beauty and the beast Christmas to gargoyles etc.
He's a genuine delight to watch no matter what he's in. Home Alone 2, Muppet Treasure Island, and Fern Gully would have been much less watchable without Curry's commitment, timing, and range.
You know, I remember the organ from this movie more than anything from the original movie. Honestly, I wasn't sure this movie wasn't a fever dream before I saw that this video was posted, there's real nostalgia here for me. Thank you, NC, and happy December!
Aside from Tim Curry's Organ... er, Tim Curry AS an Organ, two things this sequel does well to supplement the original is: 1) Pretty solidly establish that a LOT more time has passed than the 3-4 days we can see on screen. 2) Confirm the Prince wasn't a prebubescent child when he was cursed.
I guess you’re right about the range of emotions for Belle. I could make head canon about why she seems content, but it is wired. The tender moments might have meant more and worked against the Stockholm idea if there’d been more range.
Maybe it’s me, but I never viewed this as a true Beauty and the Beast sequel, I just viewed it as a fun Christmas special with the Beauty and Beast characters. Also, Stories is one of Paige O’Hara’s best vocal performances, fight me!
Now that I'm older, I go through a lot of socks. So when I get socks, I'm actually glad. Although it's partially because Mr. Bean got himself socks for Christmas, and I just love the happy way he says, "Ah, Christmas socks!"
This is one of my favorite sequels although it may not be the best, but absolutely not one of the worst ones. Can you please review Noel the happy Christmas ornament?
YES....and NO!!! This "film" lives in infamy in my mind as it was my introduction to the horrible world of straight to DVD Disney sequels. It's been over 18 years and I still will never forgive my 4th grade teacher for putting this on in class
What's really bizzare is that just one month before this sequel poisoned VCR's across the globe, FOX released "A Christmas Carol" (which was animated by DIC Entertainment) and had Tim Curry as Scrooge. Just found that odd. So now Disney has three Christmas films with Tim Curry. The other being "Home Alone 2".
I was literally watching this movie on Disney+ last night and I just knew he was going to review this movie eventually even this month I knew it I knew it I somehow knew it
This one of the few sequels I owened as a kid. It was on my Christmas movie rotation watch list and while I haven't seen it in years, I remember it fondly. I think I need to rewatch.
This one was descent. At least better than Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World. I often thought adding new characters to series confuses continuity errors and this is one of them, though. Despite the irony of the beast (in his prince form) giving Belle a rose for Christmas, I still think it was sweet and a made the ending nice.
how does it confuse the continuity? the chrsitmas decorations were in the attic the whole time of the first movie and forte was bolted to the wall of a room that was never shown but was always there.
Tim Curry is the reason why people remember Beauty and the Beast: An Enchanted Christmas. He steals the show everytime he appears. Btw. Him voicing the face organ piano reminds me of him voicing the black smock cloud from Ferngully.
This was an interesting film to say the least of a weird mid-quel (sequel yet takes place during the initial story). Good to see you doing a review of this.
I have a confession, I never had Beauty and the Beast on VHS, but I did have this and watched it repeatedly. Also I was expecting Doug to snap his fingers to change but he transformed, and that’s what I appreciates about you. You subvert our expectations
I used to watch this movie a lot when I was younger. Forte legit scared the crap out of me, not just because of his dark soulless eyes, but also because he's the only character in this movie to be entirely CGI whereas everyone else was traditionally drawn.

The man was in everything for a reason
While I fully agree that Tim Curry is the best part of this movie, I am thoroughly disappointed that he failed to mention his best line in the film:
“They can’t fall in love…IF THEY’RE DEAD!!”
My wife and I have literally been quoting that line throughout all of 2021 because it’s hilarious!
Beast is one of the most interesting Disney characters IMO
For much of his life he’s a spoiled, hot tempered and somewhat toxic person
I personally don’t have a problem with him acting obnoxious in the direct to DVD movies since it is meant to show how much he grew during his time with Belle
yup plus him changing into an actually good "person" was done over time with help from belle.
My guess is someone just make that up.
Idk, I think Forte has more in common with Xaldin from Kingdom Hearts II
This movie is a guilty pleasure for me. I know it doesn't hold a candle to the original, but Christmas and Beauty and the Beast are two of my favorite things, and I watched it all the time as a kid, so I'll still watch it every now and then.
same plus it has tim curry as a singing villan.
At least the animation is decent.
An the candle it didn't hold was Lumier 😂
Can’t wait to see critic go into detail about this one lol! Happy Disneycember all!!!
I am too ruined, and my childhood innocence of enjoying Disney films is long dead. Three points:
-Belle has some cute-ass legs during the skating scene.
-Chip is getting an up skirt shot while hopping next to Belle.
-After everyone turned back to human form, it is logical to assume that the organ room contained the corpse of an elderly musician with a significant chunk ripped out of him.
You aren't edgy, you're just a creep that has a thing for an animated 17 year old.
It's December 1st! Time to play NC's "I F***ing Love Christmas" song on repeat for the next 25 days.
Got it on repeat right now while mainlining eggnog
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Also in the first movie it was established that he didn't know how to read and perhaps saw books as a waste of value as he had no desire to learn them
Beauty and the Beast: An Enchanted Christmas is a decent Disney sequel that doesn't live up to its 1991 predecessor but sure is a good sequel(not great but good). It is one of my favorite Disney sequels.
It’s way better than the first movie
The animation quality is superb but in the first beauty and the beast it looked only okay
That’s you
That’s how you sound
I'll watch anything with Tim Curry voice acting
@@flamingpi2245 Never made that assumption. I'm just saying it was okay. But the first one was better. It will always be.
@@flamingpi2245 Saying it "doesn't live up to" the first one sounds like "it's way better than" the first one?
I think it was halfway passable. If it were a canon story it would really reflect poorly on Belle and the Beast’s relationship given how harsh he was to her (during a time the first film tried to make him show improvement rather than backsliding) and how docile and subservient she was in return.
With this movie, Home Alone 2, and the Barbie Nutcracker, I think Tim Curry might be almost as obsessed with Christmas as Critic.
tim curry: will i get a song.

The animated Christmas Carol is awesome
Sad thing is, I've seen that nutcracker movie ( I have a lot of sisters okay), and honestly, it's not that bad; better than the one with the Nazis anyway.
@@artsman412 Barbie in the Nutcracker is unironically one of the best film adaptations of The Nutcracker you'll probably ever find. It's even better than the one Disney put out back in 2018!

Definitely the Most Memorable
I came down with Covid last December and spent a decent amount of the season in the hospital on an oxygen tube. I managed to make it home for Christmas. But I missed a bunch of celebrating. Needless to say, I got a bunch of catching up to do. Critic’s Christmas reviews is as always a welcome addition to my Christmas season.
COVID is a dreaded thing. May you be blessed this holiday season 😊
I hate Covid so much
Damn, that sounds dreadful. Glad you're feeling better, though.
Did you recover
Glad you are doing much better now!
I honestly never got why she didn't just tell Beast "hey, I only went out there because the Organ told me to go out there to find a good tree"
Beast knew they were gonna celebrate Christmas, why keep the tree thing a secret?
She just regained consciousness after a near death experience in the frozen river. She wouldn’t have the energy to argue with him in the dungeon scene in that moment.
Oh shoot! Disneycember and a New Nostalgia Critic episode? It really is the Christmas season!
Yep
Truly, the door of light shines upon us this month.
When you described it as odd I was half expecting “my daughter, odd? Where did you get an idea like that?”
That's a really oversimplification of Gaston's character.
Oh heck yeah. It’s not Christmas without Tim Curry in a special
This episode is making me rethink my life because of what Critic is making my mind picture everything Forte comes on.
16:23 I now believe it's head canon that Jafar went to Beast's Castle and kidnapped Belle to bring her to Hollow Bastion for Maleficent
I mean, it's not out of the question.
Come to think about it, the idea of the Beast having to contend with Maleficent has tremendous potential. It'll never happen as long as Disney is the way it is now, but I hope one of their writers explores that idea one day.

I think he’s doing a Disneycember on it
I've never seen this, but I could definitely argue that, as a holiday special, they really made it fit organically in to the canon of the first film because, iirc, they didn't really go in depth on the finer details of the curse; far as I can tell, they just said something to the effect of "It just kinda happened one night." I don't think they specified when, so the direction the narrative took works, imo. O.o
Ya know, btw, considering the context of the castle's denizens, Forte's death is actually kinda gruesome when you think about it; seriously, what would YOU consider the keyboard to a pipe organ be to the human body? To me, that sounds like Beast effectively just went the Crimson Eagle route! For a villain death, that's pretty freaking metal! O.O
What Could Have Been: It was originally meant to be a straight-up sequel, with Gaston's brother Avenant (a Shout-Out to the 1946 film of the fairy tale) as the antagonist intent on avenging Gaston's death and ruining the lovers' lives. It was changed to a midquel and Avenant was scrapped, his role instead given to the pipe organ when the filmmakers thought the audience would be more interested in the Beast than the Prince.

The Enchantress certainly didn’t pull her punches on someone who’s supposedly 11.

He had to have been 11. It's clearly stated in the first movie that they've been cursed for 10 years and that the beast had til he was 21 to find love. 21-10=11. I really don't understand why this is up for debate.

2) Confirm the Prince wasn't a prebubescent child when he was cursed.
I guess you’re right about the range of emotions for Belle. I could make head canon about why she seems content, but it is wired. The tender moments might have meant more and worked against the Stockholm idea if there’d been more range.
