Still can't believe I got to hang out with Larry and hear about all the BTS of making JOKER... Thank you Larry and Shotdeck team for letting me come hang out for a bit and can't wait for the next one 🙌🏻
Matti you are the best
I'm so jealous. Really wish I could take the leap into DP but it is so much to learn. Thank you sharing.
What is the difference between a storyboard and a shot list?
You've done a lot of really freaking epic videos man but this one was on another level!
This is beyond awesome. Now you have the content the channel needs.
How fortunate I am to live in an era where I can be thousands of kilometers away and, without deserving it, watch a conversation in which one of my favorite filmmakers talks about his work. It truly is immense luck to be able to do so. Thank you, Matti, for making it possible!
This wasn't enough Matti, Can we get a two hour part 2 please... Lawrence is so generous with sharing such great insights 🙌
Next time haha
Seriously!! This was the best 54 minutes I’ve spent on TH-cam in such a long time.
@@dariensmallboy4267second this
@@dariensmallboy4267 💯 and ive rewatched it like 3 times lol
Dang an up and coming filmmaker would pay millions to learn like this
Right??? I wish we had this back in the bible college listening to tutorials about after effects cause they were the only tutorials days 😂
@@mattih bible college?? whoah, matti are you christian?
You literally can learn like this as an up and coming filmmaker, because of videos like this?
This is literally the best video you’ve made. Anyone who truly loves film and movies should watch this
Agreed 😊
I agree with you💪
Yes, and really there shouldn't be any worry about the length of it.... in fact, I could have watched it even longer:) Big up for this content!
SO HAPPY you didn't edit this. One of my favorite movies too. I lived in the Bronx for 6 years and the Joker stairs was just something I saw all the time before the movie came out. Now they're immortalized to me in such a cool way.
So cool!
@@mattih You're cool! Thanks for all you do and your awesome energy. Hello from Vancouver.
THAT FOOTAGE LOOKED SILLY & AMATEURISH !
NOTHING GREAT ABOUT IT....
I love this new series for what it is. I also love to see Matti's constant evolution and trying new things. Easy to talk about doing this stuff, respect to Matti for actually doing it.
Thanks man for that 😊 I think I just get bored so I have to try new things haha
Conversations like these are key for aspiring DPs like myself… keep killing it 🔥
It’s the stuff I wish I had 10 years ago
This movie changed my life for the better. Arthur means everything to me.
So awesome seeing you start this series player!! Larry is the best first episode. Can't believe how genuine of a dude he is.
Haha yea literally the best first guest! What a good dude 😊
When do we get Danny’s episode!
“First episode?!” There’s more coming?
LOVED the subway breakdown. Genius with the still panels on a loop. And you see also that big budgets still have limitations and one always has to be a problem solver
This is INSANE!
Thanks to you and Larry for that much information and bts experience. It was amazing to watch and listen to such a creative filmmaking genius 🔥
Matti, I cannot thank you enough for doing this. Getting into a DPs mind of their approach processes and thoughts is so fascinating. PLEASE keep making these!
By far one of the best videos you've ever made, so much information, inspiration, drive, the generosity and approachability that Lawrence feels, it's kind of humbling. Thanks Matti and Thanks Lawrence for bringing us closer to the true magic of cinema.
I was glued to this whole interview. I can't wait for this series to continue. Larry you're a genius and your willingness to share your insights is beyond generous. The Joker was a visual masterpiece up there with some of the best. Keep doing what you do.
I absolutely love this new series!! Big thank you to Larry for his time and big thanks to you too, Matti, for making this!!
This is what TH-cam was made for. Priceless and valuable information to any filmmaker at any level. Thanks Matti!
It’s such a nice feeling seeing you genuinely happy to be chatting and going through this film with Sher who you clearly admire. Makes me as a long time subscriber happy for you man. Thank you for sharing this video 🙏🏾
NEED TO DO MORE OF THESE!!!! with directors, dp's, producers, writers, actors, gaffers, grips, art department, etc!!
Absolutely incredible. Went through in one go, absolutely glued to the screen. Pure gold. Thank you Matti and Larry!
Every minute I am like .. Dude... Let Larry talk ! Too many interruptions. Let him convey his thoughts!
He acted like a little boy who met Batman
Literally he’s constantly nervous-laughing like a little fangirl and it’s so distracting I couldn’t watch the video to the end
I’m glad somebody said it. Great content but just stfu and let the guy we came to listen to speak
Dont worry Larry I think you’re a cool guy giving us great content
@@joshuvuh8118you mean Matti 🤣
Great interview. Larry is so down to earth! So generous with his time and the information. It was a treat!
Love your contents bro, I still remember just yesterday when you were saying start your own vlog, and here I am. Thank you. ❤❤❤
Matti thanks! So inspiring. Love to hear how big productions are made since the beginning, story behind camera, problem solving, how and why they chose lenses and esthetic decisions. Please continue with this series!
For sure 🙌🏻
Those 60 minutes flew by quick! I could've listened to it for another 2 hours or so! What a cool guy Larry is!
I'm already hooked on this series. I'd love to see breakdowns of screenplays/script books for movies as well.
For sure 🙌🏻
Wow, just got around to watching this and this is genuinely one of the most relaxed and down to earth conversations about filmmaking I think I've ever seen. Your comments and input were so on point too, Matti! Thank you dearly for sharing this content with us. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see more from this documentary series! ❤
So great hearing Sher speak about his process, thought process, and the creativity behind it. Thanks for sharing!

Wow!!!! I was glued through the entire video. Soooo good!!! Amazing. Keep em coming Matti!
So hard to find the time for a 55 minute video, but this was so worth it. Loved every second of this. You had my full attention the entire time because this was just such an insightful video.
Thank you both for this amazing conversation. Absolutely love this long-form, deep-dive, real-talk conversation style. Matti be our Lex Friendman for filmmaking!
so so sooo good! love how you talk about his work and all of his experience.
This is so helpful, thank you! Please do more of these with working cinematographers and directors about their process, choices, and reasoning. So good.
Love this new series of videos Matti. Learning a lot. Thanks!!!!
Just amazing insight into the thinking and collaborations behind such a massive production. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series 🙌
What an amazing conversation! The insights and just the passion for filmmaking and making these amazing sequences is what really inspires me !
As a huge fan of the Joker movie and someone curious about filmmaking, this was a joy to watch. Two cool guys just having an awesome, interesting chat about something that was really extraordinary to watch on the big screen. Thank you so much! You earned a sub for sure :)
I am just learning about photography, but have always loved movies. It was so fascinating hearing about a movie from the videographer’s perspective, and realizing the puzzle work that goes into getting beautiful images that add to a story.
Hey Matti! Thanks so much for this video. I found it so valuable and it was just the kick I needed to get out of the 'filmmaking is a grind' mindset and appreciate the artistry of the craft again. Looking forward to the next one!
This is one of my favorite videos on TH-cam period! Great value! Thank you Matti~
So happy you're sharing this kind of content with us. Thanks Matti.
Thank you, Larry. Your approach is truly inspiring your work has informed so much of mine. And Thank you Matti for hosting such an in-depth conversation. Keep this format up, Please!
Hands down one of the best videos on filmmaking that I've ever seen. I hope you'll continue producing this series Matti!
As a photographer we have done mood boards for years. We would print or make word docs or use illustrator. Up until recently we used pinterest, as you could share with hair and make up, stylist, camera assistants etc. and they can all add ideas. Interesting to see how its all developed into actual platforms that cater to the creative process
The most interesting video ive watched in a very long time. It litrally took me about 1 and a half hours because i kept replaying parts in total awe. Great content Matti. And great interview/chat you had going on. I think i could listen to you two for 24 hours and never be bored. Thanks again.
unbelivable conversation, please do more of these.
Thanks, for this series, loved every bit of this interview, watched it in small chunks over a few days, so so much to glean from it! Amazing 😆
