      @thezoldics7648 i mean if a phone is priced equal to your 1 month salary then there is no problem buying it even in 3 month no cost emi, but you have to keep it for years even after peer pressure, I am running my phone for past 4 years Note 10 suddenly the display got damaged due to pressure. Hence brought a S23 Ultra

  • @JoelJohnson24
    @JoelJohnson24 ปีที่แล้ว +1805

    Thank you for saying this. Last month I bought an S23 for 72k (I can afford it) after my friends have been pressuring me for a long time. I've been using my 15k Realme phone for 3 and a half years. And let me tell you, flagship phones are not as big as a jump in experience as you think. I mean it looks really good, takes good photos but within 2 days, you lose all the shock behind it. The worst part is that now my brain has adjusted to a 120Hz AMOLED display and now my laptop which I work on looks bad. Now I feel like I should upgrade my laptop as well. This is lifestyle inflation. Now I can never go back. If I lose my phone, I cannot buy a new phone less than this price range. Moral of the story: don't spend money on stuff. The happiness goes away in 24 hours. Instead, spend money on experiences (like travel). The memories stay with you a lifetime. When you look back in life, you're not going to remember the things you bought but the fun experiences you had.

    This is 100% true and this is what I've been explaining to my friends whenever they are about to make rash decisions. I will never understand why a piece of metal should cost ₹100,000+? And the craze behind it is just insane.
    In my opinion, one should change their phone only when their current phone is really asking for a change, i.e., there is a significant drop in performance, battery life has gone down significantly and the phone is now obsolete. I have been using my Pixel 4a for 3 years now and I think it will remain good for at least one more year. People should plan that the yearly cost of a phone should not exceed 10-12k per year, which means, if you're planning a 60k phone, use it for at least 5 years.

      Exactly the same reason I don't buy expensive phones anymore. I mean what's the use of buying 1 lakh rupees phone if one drop makes it dent or breaks its glass? How can anyone spend that much money on such a fragile thing? I would rather spend that much money on something like a TV or a laptop.
      If someone is spending 1 lakh rupees on a phone, I don't care what its made of, it should be guaranteed to survive multiple drops without any dents or breaks.

    Can't agree more. I'm using redmi note 10s 6+64gb version. I'm 22 year college going student. one of my highest priority was quality camera which my phone does not have obviously but I'm only noticing the quality when I compare it to other expensive phones. I'm into photography and videography and I went ahead and got an actual mirrorless camera (Fujifilm XT200) when I had the choice to spend that exact money on an iphone 11 at the time of buying. I'm doing freelance photography and videography and regained most of the money spent to buy the camera. Coming to the phone itself it costs only 14k. Trust me when i say this the day to day performance of the phone is nothing but impressive considering its a 3 year old mediatek G95 phone, the important thing here is I've never updated my phone once.(it's the updates given out by these budget phone companies makes the phones laggy and obsolete within 2 years of usage.) so never update your budget redmi and realme phones, the software features offered won't be worth it in the long term as the performance and battery life will degrade like anything. I'm getting 5+ hours of screen on time with moderate social media usage. I'm not an avid gamer though. But the day to day performance of this phone is just as good as it was on its first day.. the animations are smooth af and not at all buggy. I turned of all the annoying promotions and Ads and customized the phone the way I liked. I'm charging my phone overnight and being careful about not dropping the phone too much. I still feel good about this phone. And it has a headphone jack too...

One of the most common reason people choose these costly devices(without much need of it) over a more economical one(which also satisfies the needs) is due to the branding and marketing the companies and the masses have done. People have started building some sort of ego that they "have to get this "apple" coz he/she is cool", "have to wear original addidas/puma coz he/she is one of the coolest"....and they go around flexing it.

    I totally agree to the video. I bought an iPhone 13 as an investment to my career as a creator but my closed ones took it for a flex and made terrible purchases keeping in mind that the phone I own should be a base level and they have to go higher. A simple example my sister buyed an s22 ultra few months after my purchase and she does the same thing as insta scroll and stuff. Nothing puts money in her pocket from that stuff she buyed. Also it has recently become a very big problem to keep up with a huge phone which is not very handy and not as sturdy as my phone. There’s a lot of case around me going on with my close friends but anyway I hope they get this fixed.

    Bro I always felt that your phone costs should not exceed your 1 month salary. Your thoughts are exactly what I feel from 3-4 years now. Currently i can purchase a samsung ultra and an iPhone but your points are exactly on my mind. My current phone is Nord 2 for 29k bought in aug 21 and it still works like wonder. I have maintained all my phone's till now in good condition so it still looks new. A tip for all- you can change your backcover every year if u feel the urge to change your phone 😊 u ll just spend 200rs max rather than changing ur phone and selling it to a less price...use a phone for minimum 3years..I will use this for 4 years minimum. The only thing i have run out of is memory..current is 128gb..earlier were 64gb and 32gb ones...so go for 256 gb one but then use it for minimum 4years..I have friends who are using their iPhone from 5-6 years now so don't fall in software upgrade 3-4years scam n all..please note this advice for our middle class girls n boys 😊 u can buy other things for home with the money u saved or mutual funds..tc

      So don't be carried away with the new designs, features,etc.
      Buy a new phone only when there's really a need for it.

    I salute you. I never bought any phone more than 14k till 2024 and I am 30 now as all my friends have iphone. Since I was never on Instagram I did need camera. But when me and my parents were going for Europe trip,I realized we need good phone that time many suggested expensive but I bought pixel 6a in 2022. Guess what It stays in the corner and I continue using my 14k phone. So, randomly listening your video made me realize that yes TH-cam needs people like you to teach us not like others who influence us to buy everything related to technology. I observed in Europe, they do have I phone but mostly people bought second hand DSLR if they like to take pictures and they go for hiking.

    I truly agree with you.
    However I have concerns with smartphones' size. I am not from a tech background and what i have understood and seen is that expensive phones like iPhone, Zenfone, Galaxy S, Pixel are made compact and easy to use in one hand. Meanwhile phones below 30K are getting bigger every year which I feel is not easy to use and carry.
    Why can't companies make cheaper compact phones with sizes similar to these expensive ones ?
