    I've owned a set of their previous model 50mm high, 25mm wide Tubeless wheels since October 2018. After 15.000km they still ran pretty much true. Brake tracks don't show much wear, however the roads are pretty flat in the Netherlands. They were € 650 including duty prepaid shipping back then. Setting them up tubeless with GP 5000TL tires was a rather straightforward task using soapy water. Do top up the sealant every 3-4 months though.
    Recently I've also had someone build a set of custom CX wheels using the newer wide disc brake rims from Farsports. I would definitely recommend these products.

I trued them up and rode them another year and even did a few crits on them. Ive even seen them on some aero results listed as very good drag compared to many wheels. Few month ago, I have build by myself a wheelset with Farsport Kaze 35mm depth rims, for rim brakes, TLR without spokes holes in the rim bed, Yuniper Nitro hubs, Sapim CX-Ray spokes on the front wheel and on the NDS rear wheel, Sapim CX-Sprint on the DS of rear wheel, Sapim polyax nipples, final weight 1315gr. Very good wheeel, they are stiff and responsive like my Shimano Dura Ace C24, but more comfortable due to the wider rims internal width and more lighte, unfortunally after only 1000km the front wheel brake track has burned but Farsport replace the rim for free.

    Great videos, I am really enjoying them, especially the intros, they are hilarious. As I have informed Farsports already, you were a decisive factor for my purchase, I couldn't find more detailed reviews online. I own a 50mm deep KAZE wheelset, tubular, rim brake, 1350g without quick releases, as you said, I was blown away by the quality of the wheelset and the difference in rolling, handling and stiffness (coming from aluminium 24 mm wheels...). I am not sure if your wheels have the ATA (anti to aqua design) like mine, but I can tell you that it makes a difference when braking in wet conditions. I am curious about the update on them and how are they performing now. Thanks.

    I love your videos and use them as inspiration... ...and I'm following the motto "as fast as possible for as little as possible."
    At the beginning of the year I ordered a Merida Scultura 100 (8-speed) from Spain for 509 € and rode it until now completely stock, adjusted just the stem as low as the expander allows... I now ordered a 42 mm alloy mid section aero wheelset for 360 € (Veltec SPEED AL = 1850 g) to replace the stock 20 mm box section rims (>2100 g) and a pair of Grand Prix 5000 in 25 mm to get the most out of the bike...
    The 8-speed Claris R2000 is really impressive, the quality is top notch, shifting is reliably, but a bit slowly... it always takes a glance until the chain wanders up the cassette... on the other hand my DA 7700 shifts muuuch faster and crisper. I also have the problem that I drag the chain against the front derailleur almost permanently... my solution will be to install a 52/36 semi compact crank, so that I don't only ride the last 4 cogs of the cassette.

    For anyone interested, i bought a pair of FSL60CM-23U-2016 from Farsports in Mar-16 for $650, shipping to EU incl. Ie, 60mm deep, U shape, 23mm wide, with 2 carbon bottle cages, titanium skewers (durable & super light), 18mth warranty, Novatec A291SB / F482SB hubs, Sapim CX-delta spokes, weight ~1600g. I have the older version of the brake track and that caused issues. I actually used the warranty for both rims. One bulged when the bike was attached to the car during a road trip. Unsure what happened. Maybe the sun for 8 hours or vibrations from the car? On the rear rim, the brake track degraded enough that I asked for a replacement. Warranty was honored both times; you still pay shipping (~100$ each time). I relaced the wheels myself as i only received new rims and nipples. I use swiss top pads, the ones provided were useless. I don't trust those wheels for Dolomite type mountain descents, but I don't blindly trust my authentic Campagnolo Bora wheels either when it's about braking at hairpins from 70kmh. It's so easy to die down such mountains, you need to trust your gear... For anything else, especially triathlons or hilly races, they're great. Spokes and hubs are great. Stiff. Look cool. So my experience has been positive overall. I've clocked thousands on km on those 4 rims, but mostly flat and turbo. Mountain stages I usually end up with an alu front wheel, probably as a mental crutch more than anything. My next bike will have disk brakes. The break track is the main risk with those chinese carbon wheels, I believe, as long as you don't buy potential garbage from an unknown seller. Move to disk, and you have mountain proof setup for "cheap". For reference, i also have carbon unbranded carbon handlebars on a road bike, and those I now trust blindly to bomb down mountains. I usually do extensive research before buying.

      Yeah good question. The two part expoxies that are used in carbon fibre bike parts are very stable compounds once mixed, so no acetone won't damage carbon fibre parts. Many manufacturers actually recommend acetone. Be careful around the decals or paint however, it will strip those right off.

      So yeah, I've had a look at Hunt wheels in the past. They are a little bit more expensive than these set of wheels, and the components are not quite as top end, unless you fork out the big bucks. For example in the sub £1000 range, they use cheaper pillar spokes and own brand hubs, while these use Sapim spokes and DT Swiss hubs. I will say tho, for a UK based company, the prices aren't too bad tbh...

    Nice video. But I still don't get the sense of tubeless setup in a road bike (despite having it and loving it in my mtb bike). There are 3 "pros" being constantly repeated by people, probably "stolen" from mtb. First pro - you can use lower pressures - you can weigh 100 kg and safely use 5 bar on a 28c tire using innertube (tested by me personally over last couple of years) - I don't think anyone needs lower pressure on a road bike, we are not talking about gravel bikes here. Second pro - small punctures will be fixed automatically by sealant - first of all, I don't think punctures are an issue in road bikes world, most of the road riders, including myself, have a puncture once per x thousands km and then it is often something big which wouldn't be sealed anyway, second of all (this is what I read, didn't try myself) - sealing in very high pressure usually looks like: tire starts spitting sealant all over the place and after a while when the pressure gets much lower, then eventually sealant seals the hole. Third pro - tubeless setup is lighter than a traditional setup with innertubes. What is true for for mtb, where innertubes are much, much heavier, doesn't have to be true for road. So: tubeless ready rims are usually heavier comparing to the same/similar models which are not tubeless ready (it can be something about 50g or even more per pair), tubeless tires are heavier (160g per pair of Contis 5000 25c TL vs classic) you have to add the weight of sealant (depending on how much sealant is used, but I don't think you will get lower than 60-70g per set), valves (probably also few tens of grams) and tubeless tape. Pair of light innertubes weighs about 140-150g or even 100g if you use latex ones, so in summary tubeless setup's weight is higher. For these not true pros above I would add that bicyclerollingresistance study proves that tire with tubeless setup have much more rolling resistance than tire with latex innertube, much more than a tire with light butyl innertube and just a bit less than a tire with standard innertube. And I would also add the higher price and maintenance of tubeless setups. So in summary - there is really no sense to go with tubeless for a road bike, even if youtubers repeat one after another how cool it is :).

  • @peterlaskiewicz8252

    How is the brake track on these? I have the farsports normal wheels and the brake track builds a lot of residue changing color to whatever pad you run. Looks like crap.You can see some residue on these as well?

    • @TraceVelo
      @TraceVelo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the brake tracks have held up great so far, but as you say, carbon rim brake tracks will build up brake pad residue over time. I use pure acetone on my carbon brake tracks to clean this off once every 2 weeks or so. But be careful, because acetone is strong stuff and can strip any paint and decals right off.

    • @TraceVelo
      @TraceVelo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah some of them do, but often to cut costs, they don't bother shipping the wheels with them. You can quite easily find replacements with either a full steel freehub body, or steel inserts to prevent as much bite.

    Wow I’m startled by how bad that cassette bite is. I’ve trashed my mountain bike cassette and it’s got zero damage on the body. No idea if it’s aluminum or steel but make sure you’re tighting your lock ring enough or that could cause quick wear

    • @TraceVelo
      @TraceVelo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's not great, but it's just what I've come to expect with aluminium freehubs these days. It's the same regardless of manufacturer. Plus you can always pick up steel replacements, which will negate the problem entirely.

    I finally got a frame (a beautiful all internal carbon aero w/thru axle) and i need some wheels. do you think you'll get better bang per buck buying a carbon rim, hub/nipples/spokes of your choice and having them laced locally or buying something like these and maybe upgrading the hub/nipples/spokes later?

    • @richard7059
      @richard7059 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahmed Agbabiaka I bought a csc rim and had it laced up locally. I carnt vouch for fully made wheel but doing it this way has big bonuses
      1 : high quality spokes
      2: built by local skilled builder with trueing warranty
      3: ability to use whatever quality of hub you want
      3: big savings if you recycle an old hub from a rim you no longer use
      4: ability to convert your wheel to dynamo hub self powered lighting which I did.

    • @TraceVelo
      @TraceVelo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey fred, yeah honestly not too bad, GCN did a great video on fitting tubeless tyres, which I followed, and I was able to get them fitted using just my hands, no tyre levers required. Getting them properly seated with just a track pump was a bit of struggle, but by removing the valve cores, and pumping fast enough, I was able to get them seated pretty easily actually. Takes some practice, but you can do it using just a track pump.

    • @arekc2787

      I think not.. Hunt's rims are also made in Asia, so even, as far as that goes.. But, with inexpensive, Chinese hubs they cost a bit more than a Kaze wheelset with DT240s... And they use Pillar spokes vs. Sapim's top-notch CX-Rays on Farsports.
