    I am impressed at how you pour your brake fluid. I don't have the balls to free pour like that. I use a funnel. If I didn't, I'd have fluid all over the place. The same goes for engine oil.

      Brake fluid is corrosive stuff, especially when it gets on the paint job. Clean it up ASAP when you spill it or happen to get brake fluid on your car paint.

    If you ever want to solo it. You can also use a wedge such as a stick on the clutch. Then lessen the bleed valve to let air or fluid out. then tighten. Sometimes air can get trapped in the slave cylinder. To defeat this you can remove the slave cylinder, and push the cylinder in with the the bleed valve opened, also angle the bleed valve up, so it easier for air to travel.
    You can pull suction on the bleed valve with syringe, and vacuum pump if you still have issues.
    Finally. Air can also get trapped in the hose to the master cylinder, while in theory they should self correct. You can also pull a vaccum in the master reservoir to bring air bubbles to the top.
    If you consistently see air while bleeding the slave. You have a leak. If you consistently see air coming out the master reservoir. You have a leak.
    If you replace the master cylinder. It is generally best practice to also replace the slave cylinder.

    So changing the brake fluid from the master cylinder will be all the same fluid going to the brakes and the clutch? If so, shouldn't we just bleed the brakes as well for each Tire? This way all the fluid is out of the entire system?

    • @GlycerinZ
      @GlycerinZ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clutch and brakes are completely separate, closed systems. They just both use DOT3 or DOT4 fluid, commonly called brake fluid.

    A cool trick to easily turn this into a one person job is to buy any cheap set of adjustable hiking poles. You can adjust them to any length to hold the brake or clutch pedal down while you crack the bleeder. Use one pole and adjust it to length and rest it up against the front on the seat..Ohh and you can use them on a nice hike in the woods after.

    • @femalegarage
      @femalegarage 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, that's a cool advice! However, when it comes to bleeding the brake system, it's enough when the hose is immsersed in brake fluid (in a container). You open the valve and then keep pumping the brake pedal. The air won't get into the system when the hose is immersed in brake fluid.

    • @kio51423

    Hello, thanks for the video. I have Fiat Bravo 2 1.6 multijet 105hp. From 1-2 weeks I have an issue with the clutch - when I am going on first and reverse gear the car is vibrating and annoying rasping sound is heard on the front of the car. Sometimes I am not even able to shift the gears and when I turn off the car and pump the clutch and then the car start shifting and driving off without vibrations. Could it be a problem with the clutch release bearing? Or because of old brake fluid and air in the system? Thanks in advance!

    Also worth considering is the
    Motul DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid
    Wet boiling point (185°C) is superior to DOT 4 (155°C mini) and DOT 3 (140°C mini).
    So DOT 5.1 will have a longer life.

    Old clutch/brake fluid won't change pedal feel, it will just become acidic and eat away at the seals in the master and slave cylinders and any rubber lines. By the time you feel a change, you've already caused damage to the hardware in the car.
    Brake/clutch fluid is hygroscopic. Water, which is what clutch/brake fluid absorbs over time, in incompressible, just like the brake/clutch fluid itself. But when water mixes into brake/clutch fluid. it becomes acidic.

      IM26C4U - Yes, use a vacuum kit or pneumatic kit.

      IM26C4U Ally was actually wrong when she said you needed a helper to bleed the brakes/clutch. When you use a hose and bottle with new fluid in it, the helper is unnecessary. Just open the bleeder valve and pump the pedal to pump old fluid out. Once all that's in the hose is new fluid, pull the pedal all the way up and close the bleeder.

      This is called gravity bleeding and I personally do not trust it. I would rather be sure no air was introduced into the system and have a friend push on the clutch while I control the bleed.

      Yes, the easiest method is to use a stick wedged between the pedal and the seat base; that keeps the pedal down and prevents air from getting in. Always retighten the bleeder valve before removing the stick.

    I need to change the fluid in my Subaru because it looks gross, I've had the car since 24K miles and it's now at 116K and I've never changed it.
