if you look at the Singapore site.. The paint options are Stealth Grey (included), White $1500, Blue $2300, Silver and Red $3200, 20" Wheels $3000. All in SGD..So it seems Tesla has bundled all this in and raised the prices in AU. I expect Tesla will sell a heap of these higher spec ones in AU and when sales drop off they will start cutting the prices of the cars and making you pay extra for Wheels and Paint and Acceleration Boost.. Virtually no changes or very few per iteration, surprising and safe for a innovative tech company. This is not on my wish list at all. Interesting their prices go up, when the EV market is coming down. Sorry Paul, I shouldn't mention price fluctuation on Tesla near you, lol...

Theres no actual price rise, just has options pre ticked for launch cars. If people don't like the car thats fine, but geez, what did they expect, its still a model Y, not a new car.
The price hike only affects people buying the full base car or a totally bland long range I reckon A pre facelift long range was 69900 or so add 2600 for silver paint 3000 for accel boost and 1500 for wheels It’s actually cheaper now much cheaper in that spec than before I have mine ordered and can’t wait to get it. Let’s hope they found a good balance for the suspension as I am currently driving a long range model 3 highland and absolutely love it
I’ll second that request for a XPeng G6 review. I have a MY but would not upgrade to this model without a good look at the other cars to come out of China later this year.
Just ordered my first EV. Design of this model Y is very nice. Was very much waiting for this refresh. It was either this or the sea lion 7. But the servicing costs for byd was the deal breaker.
You can actually check on their website. on all the BYD models on their website they have scheduled servicing of $300-$350 every 12 months. One of the perks of EVs is the less moving parts, no oil changes. So I always find it strange that the servicing costs of a EV is on par and sometimes more than ICE vehicles??? Cupra is another brand that has $350 capped priced servicing on their EVs. My GR Yaris doesn’t even cost that much. It’s 250 a pop for the first 5 years. The civic type r is $199 for the first 5 years also cheaper.
@@zenth Do the sums for the options you are considering and factor in all costs (extra delivery/dealer charges etc & ongoing operating costs) - when I bought my BYD Seal the lower purchase cost & extra inclusions more than offset the relatively small additional operating costs.
@@asjeot exactly the point! What exactly are they doing. Nothing against BYD but a salesman told me that they check the suspension and tyres… I owned a 12 year old lowered WRX hatch. And the suspension was still good. Only then my mechanic said the bushings are close to needing replacement. That was 12 years. Tyres should last you 2-3 years. What’s there to check.
And people complained about Toyota's lack of innovation while hiking the price. What about Tesla? It's even worse, being so tech based, the Chinese manufacturers are offering way more features.

There have been a few pics of a camo Model 3 around the US in the last week, I expect it might also get the lightbar & bumper cam in the short term and probably the stalks will return as well, its really the only criticism the Highland has been getting.
The turn stalk staying on the Model Y must have to do with the regulations coming out in Europe. I would expect the Model 3 to quickly follow up as well.

Hi Paul This is my take on pricing Using AWD LR as an example 2025 Model Y Launch and wanting Quick Silver or Fiery Red colour. This includes the following options on the 2024 Model: Colour of choice. 20” Wheels. Acceleration upgrade. Plus Launch goodies 73,400 plus $400 dealer order fee and $1400 delivery Charge 2024 Model Y $69,900 $2,300 Quick Silver. $1,800 20” Wheels $4,000 Acceleration Boost $78,400 Total plus $400 dealer order few and $1400 delivery Charge Stamp Duty Rego So if pricing reverts back to 2024 pricing and you want any 2 of the 3 included options post 2025 launch best to purchase through the launch as it is cheaper.
I also like things like Ultrasonic sensors and rain sensors as well, but sensors are not cheap as you claim. A car with USS will not have just one, but as many as 10-12. When you consider they're not vertically integrated parts, it adds screws or other attachments, wiring harnesses and their connectors, labor, and extends the time to build. Lastly, it's another part that can fail. There is a reason why Tesla is profitable and reliable when most are not.
Looks good on the inside and out and happy that they've kept the indicator stalk. Strange to see a significant price increase in the face of growing competition. If they had of put on 19-inch wheels that would have been a much better increase in range - which for me is a key factor in choosing an EV vehicle.
This upgrade looks fantastic. I have to disagree strongly regarding the camera vision for parking. We have a 2024 model 3 and a 2022 model Y, The 3 has only camera vision - zero issues, it picks up the front, rear and sides / kerb area etc, works perfectly. On the Y, it has the ultrasonic sensors and camera vision, you can switch between the 2 technologies in the car and we’ve set it to vision.
I have done the opposite use the USS in preference and also have two Tesla's, USS very precise, I have two friends who have hit low kerbs on the back rear without warning, plus no bumper camera. Removing the sensors, including radar was a retrograde step. I note a lot of the Chinese EVs have USS, Radar, Lidar and Vision often with more cameras.
All Chinese cars are crap now actually all new cars are crap with the over sensitive driver monitoring and overspeed monitoring the lane keep system, gone are the days of a silent cabin without all the flashing lights and annoying beeps and bongs!
I think it looks better, particularly at the rear. I don’t understand the price though. At the old price it probably edged out the new Chinese entrants like the Xpeng G6 and the Zeekr X due its track record and reputation for great software. However when the difference in price is now so big that decision is a lot harder!
Tesla removed the ultra-sonic sensors so that they can better train the camera systems AI recognition. Once they look to progress to level 3 they will bring them back and will have to add at least a 4D Radar Sensor and thermal imaging camera.
I dont like indicators buttons on the steering wheel but it annoys me that everyone who is against it says that can’t figure out which is which when you are turning or in a roundabout. Guys you are supposed to indicate much BEFORE entering a roundabout or MAKING a turn. Find out proper reason that being capacitive you need to sometime press it multiple times to work.
That front camera is only going to see anything in summer if the rear camera is anything to go by. I do not agree at all on vision parking vs. ultrasound. Current version of vision covers all my parking needs. I do not agree on indicator buttons either - it is just a matter of a short adjustment period. Going from Highland to Model Y with stalks felt like a big step back. My kids love the back screen - they can control music and seat heat.
Dont think the get a big price hike, its just the launch serie with more power. Looks a lot better but the proportions between the low front and high glas house are still bad. Agree on the stalks.
They should have added something solar. There's so much advancements on the solar panels technology, they should have added something similar to Fisker. What do you think?
Tesla will work on their vision based packing sensor technology. It took a while to get FSD working great as well. I don't see packing sensors coming back
Depends on your finances . 1000$ in XAI508P is 4000 XAI508P if it goes to 50% of ath in 2024 thats a 600% gain. If it goes equal to ath . Its a 1200% gain.
I think it looks great. Great idea to include indicator stalk. They’ve priced it higher and included 20” helix wheels plus paint colours with the launch series to increase margins hoping that those eager buyers will buy it. Once launch series is gone it would be at least $4,400 less if going with standard grey and 19” wheels
14:40 that’s exactly what will happen again. This price will stay until supply of old model Y sells out and then they will drop the price if not sooner
You missed that range goes up to 770kmish with the standard wheels per the china website which would get you from canberra to melbourne on a single charge which is pretty insane.. (Good review though - better than every other aussie I've seen on youtube yeah)...
Why don't Tesla have adjustable dampers? Surely with their technology implementing a system to give owners a comfortable ride when needed isn't out of their reach?

It looks ok, but it is very similar to previous, not a giant step at all. They have taken the same approach as Porsche with the 911 over the years (no I am not comparing them to the iconic Porsche). Virtually no changes or very few per iteration, surprising and safe for a innovative tech company. This is not on my wish list at all. Interesting their prices go up, when the EV market is coming down. Sorry Paul, I shouldn't mention price fluctuation on Tesla near you, lol...
Yeah, just like the Model 3.
Brilliant cars!!!
I love how noone actually reads anything or does any research.
Theres like 20 changes and huge differences, just like the old model 3 to the highland.
Theres no actual price rise, just has options pre ticked for launch cars.
If people don't like the car thats fine, but geez, what did they expect, its still a model Y, not a new car.
The price hike only affects people buying the full base car or a totally bland long range I reckon
A pre facelift long range was 69900 or so add 2600 for silver paint 3000 for accel boost and 1500 for wheels
It’s actually cheaper now much cheaper in that spec than before
I have mine ordered and can’t wait to get it. Let’s hope they found a good balance for the suspension as I am currently driving a long range model 3 highland and absolutely love it
Good to see they bring the turning indicator stalk back.
Please review XPeng G6 Paul
I’ll second that request for a XPeng G6 review. I have a MY but would not upgrade to this model without a good look at the other cars to come out of China later this year.
I like it. Only concern is the positioning and vulnerability of the camera right up front.
yep ...road kill magnet
Just ordered my first EV. Design of this model Y is very nice. Was very much waiting for this refresh. It was either this or the sea lion 7. But the servicing costs for byd was the deal breaker.
Can you explain on the byd service cost? (genuinely curious).
What about time? It's a joke you need to service an EV when it shouldn't need to be serviced in those regular intervals. What do they even do?
@@asjeot exactly the point! What exactly are they doing. Nothing against BYD but a salesman told me that they check the suspension and tyres… I owned a 12 year old lowered WRX hatch. And the suspension was still good. Only then my mechanic said the bushings are close to needing replacement. That was 12 years. Tyres should last you 2-3 years. What’s there to check.
I don’t know, the camera based parking has improved with updates. I’m not even using the USS anymore.
Strangely I have to agree.
And people complained about Toyota's lack of innovation while hiking the price. What about Tesla? It's even worse, being so tech based, the Chinese manufacturers are offering way more features.
What innovation would you like them to roll out?
What innovation are the Chinese actually rolling out?
@rjbiker66 I advise you check some reviews of upcoming Chinese models.
Yeah, you say Chinese manufacturers are offering more features - which ones?
@@emmett3067 Tesla is the pioneer in EV but gradually loose its attraction. Xpeng G6, 800v faster charging speed, longer range, UHD, 360 degree camera, similar efficiency, cheaper price, better drive assistance features (free with the car) (Tesla FSD costs 10k extra), better interior, better build quality... I won two teslas and won't buy Tesla for my next cars.
@@emmett3067 A quick example it's using LIDAR.
That shade is called Haemorrhoids 😂😂😂
Should be 59k. $63k is too much extra for not much more range.
Prices will drop as ramp increases economies of scale. This is for the enthusiast that wants early models and prepared to pay more.
$8,000 for indicator stalks is too much
I think there is some kind of acceleration boost + other aesthetics too
@@justindustrieAcceleration boost is the AWD model
Stalks schmalks...
There's many other changes other than the indicator stalk, but you knew that - and don't care.
The launch model includes $4400 worth of features (paint and wheels).
I wonder if the front bumper camera will be a great help with speed bumps, pot holes and smaller objects on the road to allow evasive recoursing.
It looks absolutely stunning, it has that Hollywood riches vibe… People who love style and status will love it. Only issue is no HUD and they could have added Electrochromatic Panorama… Other than that, perfect car for urban Australia…
looks like BYD now 😂😂😂 0:52
The front looks like a VW XL Sport Concept
Or the XL-1 production car!
Or the Cybercab
Hi Paul
Big price hike to start with, dew months later. Big price drop!
We have seen this movie before. I am musk free now, ordered an Xpeng g6.
Gone from Musk to Xi Jinping. 🙄
Yep I suspect the price will be like a yoyo! Buyer beware.
@AnyoneSeenMikeHunt if you are man of your word. Do not buy anything that made in China!!!
@AnyoneSeenMikeHunt if you a man of your word, do not buy anything that made in China...
Lol, do you actually think that it was a better choice?
Chinese manufacturer partly owned by the government and made in China.
And you think that you are "free"?
I love to watch the people who buys these shit vehicles (MG, xpeng, maxus, BYD etc), they are like the NPC of car buyers.
Price increase? Based on what? It's normal price now and still more better and more value than the competition.
@@AKA001 then buy it for the normal price...
Much nicer looking, but they'll need to revise that price
Whats with the lines/gaps on the front of the side mirrors? Cant find any mention of them anywhere. Must be some new feature..
Good indication that the indicator stalk will return to the Model 3. Now it just needs proper ultrasonic sensors again.
@@jamesmarks4546 let's bring back window winders again too...
Hi Paul
This is my take on pricing
Using AWD LR as an example
2025 Model Y Launch and wanting Quick Silver or Fiery Red colour.
This includes the following options on the 2024 Model:
Colour of choice.
20” Wheels.
Acceleration upgrade.
Plus Launch goodies
73,400 plus $400 dealer order fee and $1400 delivery Charge
2024 Model Y
$69,900
$2,300 Quick Silver.
$1,800 20” Wheels
$4,000 Acceleration Boost
$78,400 Total plus $400 dealer order few and $1400 delivery Charge Stamp Duty Rego
So if pricing reverts back to 2024 pricing and you want any 2 of the 3 included options post 2025 launch best to purchase through the launch as it is cheaper.
I’d go with upside down trapezium. Also when’s the podcast coming back?
Ha ha - that's the one! Back on Monday.
Why would it be upside down?
Did they get rid of the tow hitch?
Looks Great
This upgrade looks fantastic.
Pricing is too high… xpeng G6 appears a better option… thoughts?
Even that is xpengsive.
Xpeng FTW
All Chinese cars are crap now actually all new cars are crap with the over sensitive driver monitoring and overspeed monitoring the lane keep system, gone are the days of a silent cabin without all the flashing lights and annoying beeps and bongs!
If you can live with the absolutley attrocious software in the Xpeng (or any Chinese EV) then it might be an option.
On road, the Xpeng G6 with tow bar is $64k.
I appreciate your honest assessment. Your opinion does matter.
I think it looks better, particularly at the rear.
I don’t understand the price though. At the old price it probably edged out the new Chinese entrants like the Xpeng G6 and the Zeekr X due its track record and reputation for great software. However when the difference in price is now so big that decision is a lot harder!
Good review, thankyou Paul
Tesla removed the ultra-sonic sensors so that they can better train the camera systems AI recognition. Once they look to progress to level 3 they will bring them back and will have to add at least a 4D Radar Sensor and thermal imaging camera.
BYD for me
15-20% increase for a bunch of name plates and a Puddle light ?
Ummm and $4400 worth of extras (wheels and paint). All paint choices are included.
@@ravingmad765what if you just want white paint and 19”
I dont like indicators buttons on the steering wheel but it annoys me that everyone who is against it says that can’t figure out which is which when you are turning or in a roundabout. Guys you are supposed to indicate much BEFORE entering a roundabout or MAKING a turn. Find out proper reason that being capacitive you need to sometime press it multiple times to work.
@WhatsupKB people who can't operate the buttons after 5 minutes drive shouldn't be behind the wheel of any car.
In the UK you also have to indicate that you are leaving the roundabout and that involves the wheel possibly being turned upside down at that point.
Sick design!
14:45 How is that different than dealerships? The difference here is that it’s Tesla taking advantage of early buyers rather than some middle man.
That back screen should have been in front of the driver……….unfortunate.
Tesla will work on their vision based packing sensor technology. It took a while to get FSD working great as well. I don't see packing sensors coming back
Trapezoid, was the shape of steering wheel button. Design element found in cybertruck, in many places.
agreed on XAI508P 36-38x coming up
I love this new model "Launch Series" but do you know why it doesn't show any Juniper logo anywhere??
Juniper is an internal platform name so unlikely to get this.. technically its a 'model y'
With current management in place, the things we need to know about new tesla products are rather limited.
Does it have the BYD LFP battery ?
Stalk is a very welcome return. Will wait for the price drop.
Hopefully the stalk will be back in Model 3 as well
I would have thought our Australian dollar is bad against the USD which contributes to the cost. 61c!
I see 719 km on the chinese website and CLTC mileage not WLTP. So different standards.
Why don't Tesla have adjustable dampers? Surely with their technology implementing a system to give owners a comfortable ride when needed isn't out of their reach?
they do, its reserved for the performance models
@stinger15au thanks bro I wasn't aware. I'm not an EV guy but as someone who's always complaining about the overly stiff ride on a lot of cars these days ( I have really bad spine issues) and hearing Paul say how bad his old car was I thought it were strange they so didn't have them.. Now I know they do make them they should have them in all models or optioned for all models. Cheers
Price
@malsmith2012 the old Y was definitely 100% too stiff.
The new model 3 has well tuned suspension so if they have done the same to the new Y it should be perfectly fine.
Won't know until driven of course
I would be waiting to see what they do with the pricing
Do it. XAI508P already in my bags. I had a XAI508P after ( your should I buy ) and I agreed and bought. I'm looking to stack more, too.
it looks good. good update too the model y over all.
What!! Don’t see a front screen or HUD- that’s disappointing.
I've got a Model X and Cybertruck. Prefer the X styling compared to the Y refresh. Hoping they dont alter the X or the S
When does the performance get released
