On the Mac side, you can use the Disk Utility app (part of the Mac OS) to format the drive and FAT32 is one of the options. (Mac OS can read Microsoft FAT formatting in addition to Mac proprietary formatting, so their disk utility can do both.
Thanks for all the information on how Sentry and Dashcam works and what devices you use to record on. Yes it is a great feature for security or accidents. I am learning about EV's right now and is too bad other EV's don't have this feature without going out and buying our own Dashcam. Even Store bought Dashcams do not have side view cameras. They only shoot what is in front of the car. Sentry for a store bought camera would be leaving the power on the store bought camera while away from the car. I think the unit works without car power being on. Take care.
I don't believe you have to download a program to be able to format an external disk in NTFS, FAT, FAT32, or exFAT. All formats are in the dropdown options in File Explorer in Windows 10.
Thanks for the video Dave. Do u leave the ssd plugged in or remove it when u r at home. See the ssd on even when not recording. Just wondering if it’ll drain my battery
Press and hold dash icon until red door goes off, then on to remove SSD and plug into computer it will show up as drive just read it. When done just plug into car and dash icon will appear, good luck
But its certainly not HD quality video. Rather poor quality really. And no need to rename the drive anymore, just plug a drive in. You can format it from the tesla's screen.
All your videos are very informative. Thanks . Need your advice I am thinking to get Tesla Y which I will be getting by march . You think it’s good idea to go for new Tesla y ? Otherwise I was going to replace my nx300 with new NX 300 h 2022 model?
Question: Re Dashcam, the list of dashcam that you have available to review in this video, did you have to "Save" each one? I recently was almost forced off road by another driver. I wanted to show my husband what had happened but the incident had apparently been overwritten two hours later when we tried to view. Would I have had to push the camera icon to save? I have the same Samsung T7 so space is not a problem.
The dash cam only records for one hour. Then it starts again and rewrites over that one hour. To save, you have to press the save icon or honk the horn if you have it set up. It then records 10 mins of footage I believe.
@@TheBronx_911 I have the samsung T7 also.I hit the save the other day after a road rage event - however it didn't save the entire event only 53 seconds. what am i doing wrong?
you prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost my password. I love any help you can offer me
@Payton Ernest thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@@evdave528 It’s weird. Been more than half a century since I had my radio gear. I was CW all the way and I can still copy at 20 wpm. Better than I remember my high school Spanish!
Not much if you assume conditions like weather, time sentry is on, times sentry mode is triggered, etc. It will always use more energy in colder weather. It's priceless, because it's what you need if somebody damages or tries to steal your car.
Outstanding, thanks Dave! This was very helpful as I prepare for delivery of my first Tesla :-)
Enjoy your new car
Followed your instructions...easy peasy. Took 1 minute to get it up and running. Thanks!

Good news, Tesla now can format by itself just plug drive in a used slot and hit format. It can now use exfat.
Thank you so much for going through all the details! Super helpful

Just format the drive in the car, it’s in the menu!
I think you still have to make a TeslaCam folder but the car will format
Yes
Where do you make the TeslaCam folder?
Is it possible to record video without connecting Sid. Where footage will be stored if so.
please use Rufus portable app and format in Large FAT32. You'll lose a great deal of storage of the brand new drive with FAT32Format
you can format your usb via the cars display
Yes with recent car software look in the menu
I have the T7. Just formatted the drive in the car. No need for a separate computer anymore.
With newer software Correct
Excelent vídeo! Thank you
excellent video, thanks.
I am going to do that. Love your video!
Thanks a lot. I will buy a ssd as soon as possible.
I believe the new S model has a stick in it. Can you clarify?
All new cars come equipped with SSD
I’ve read that the T7 runs hot (over 100°). Have you had that experience with the T7?
They do run a little warm but not hot
Do you have to plug the SSD into one of the USB-A connections, or can you plug it into a USB-C connection?
I think Either can be used but I have used usb A
Nice

Windows will only format FAT32 for partitions up to 32GB. That's why you need to download another program for larger drives.
@@nazzarenopisano652 Thanks

It stays plugged in, I do format it from the car screen when it gets filled up
You can set the sentry mode to off at home, work and other places so it will simply not record there.
Is there a way to see it on a PC or Laptop? That be cool Car Text you and on the Phone or Laptop we can see why Car Text us for...

All things considered the Model Y will be the best choice
@@evdave528 🙏 Thanks
Just bought a 2017 model S and I'm curious if the Jetta port expander or some thing equivalent works for my rig?
I think their port extended only work in 3 and Y
Hi Dave so even if u have the keys/ card in your pocket you still activate the sentry mode?. I bought one from Tesla’s website any comments on that
my 2016 - model S does not have this function

Glad someone can copy CW, 73

You never really forget your CW, find a radio and listen to the bands it will be a fun quest
Will it automatically delete oldest videos when the drive is filled?
The storage is a circular buffer only deleting the oldest videos. Be sure to save event by clicking the dash cam icon
So we gonna use the usb and the ssd right ?
One or the other, SSD holds more video
Thanks for the info, good thing I bought the ssd
What does the Tesla come with as for as the memory card? Thanks?
Not included. I have a M3.
It now comes with a small thumb drive
New cars come with a128gb USB drive, very cool upgrade
My dashcam save me $4,000 hit and run driver, I caught through social media

Not much if you assume conditions like weather, time sentry is on, times sentry mode is triggered, etc. It will always use more energy in colder weather. It's priceless, because it's what you need if somebody damages or tries to steal your car.
I think it uses a few miles of range nightly but you can have it turn off at work, home or other selected gps place.
Why is the trigger point at the end?
Max not sure what your asking?
@@evdave528 the video is 10 mins from tesla cam and you walked by at the end of video
The Jeda has a little door - you can hide that SSD inside
