These guys should be in the R&R Hall of Fame a long time ago! The bad thing about it is too many people judge a band's impact on their history based on the number of #1 hits on the billboard chart, not necessarily on how good a band is on their own merit! JMO!

Not at all "hard rock", they were the epitome, alas the essence of American Rock n Roll, purely an American phenom devoid of drugs, so good, so amazing that the agent for Zepplin realized as an opening act, the audience was totally lost in GFR and upstaged Zep forced promoters to cut GFR off. The crowd went biserk nearly causing a riot!

Perry Kalamaras How and why they are not in the hall of fame is simple. They would not sell their souls to the devil. When you read and hear about all these bands that are so popular (especially the British bands) is because they signed the ( Contract ) which basically you sell your soul to the devil. Hollywood is so Satanic and Corrupt. Grand Funk told them to shove their contract. Other good groups done the same. Once you don't sign you basically go no where or get trashed. Or get Killed.

I was a Senior in High School when Grand Funk Railroad toured the country...brings back great memories...I had an Afro just like Don the drummer...They were so far ahead of other bands is was sad...other 3 man bands did come along like Triumph, and Rush...but GFR was the original 3 man band...

    • @leemclaughlin3038

Gregory Butler, what made them so good I feel is? They actually came up with a new style of music. Take in consideration, You have Rap, You have punk Rock. Then there's heavy metal, but when you listen to Rap it's samo samo. Punk Rock is a bit different but really samo, samo, and heavy metal today I feel is a bunch of screaming Satan worshipers. It's samo samo. With Grand Funk Railroad you mention Rush and they were good and triumph but what Grand Funk Railroad done was played Rock & Roll but added that dance-able jazzy type funk to it. That made it a totally different style of Rock and Roll. That is why so many British Bands criticized them. I think they did because they were simply jealous. The British like to claim their the ones who brought Rock and Roll to America with the Beatles. Partly that';s true but Americans come up with country and western, Rap, and the Ramones started Punk Rock.Grand Funk started the Jazzy type rock with that add of funk. So who started what first. I think we are the winners. The Brits hate that as well. They already got their asses kicked in the war and they lost again.

And the times were so different than today by milestones. Freedom and peace and love was palpable in the air, there was no fighting. only PEACE AND LOVE even among strangers... generosity towards our by brothers and sisters we had never met. The very best of times in music. Real life with no technology to ruin it.
