- This video shows the remarkable performance of 3 of our 5 Hyper Racing 1500 Watt 48 Volt Scooter w/off-road tires in an off-road environment. The video was taken by Gabe P. and shows two other riders on these magnificent scooters. The 2nd rider, Max, is just 9 years old and I had to shorten his seat for him to ride as the scooters arrive with high seats. The video was taken on private property trails through woods in upstate New York near the Canadian border. A portion of the video was taken on an abandoned rail line showing a former steam engine storage shed.
Overall, the video covers about 5-6 miles of trail riding. The scooters are so quiet we once almost hit a deer. But we often come up on deer, foxes, and other woods animals. A real plus with electrics - no gas fumes, motor noise or checking the gas/oil with each ride. Will sell our 5 gas powered scooters.
The escooters were purchased though Hypertoyz on Ebay or HyperPowerSports.com on their webpage. They are a Florida based company. At the time of purchase in 2015 they cost about $600 w/shipping - a modest price for such a powerful scooter that can go over 30 mph. I strongly recommend the larger frame & tire off-road model over the scooters similar in design to the UberScoot model. They ride much better than those tiny tire scooters particularly on gravel roads or trails. However, perhaps in Fla since they can be used on public paved roads the smaller scooter may be easier to fold and load in a car or truck for transporting. But both models are collapseable for transporting.
These are terrific in a remote cottage setting with private roads. Must be registered & licensed in NY State for use on County or State owned former rail trails (under an ATV type category) and cannot be used on roads with traffic as they apparently can in the state of Florida. Some of the more expensive model escooters can be used on highways in NY. No license required for use on private property as we used them here.
I did have some initial problems with wires burning up until I installed terminal blocks to connect the motor wires to the controller. That ended the problem and Hypertoyz suggested manufacturer design changes from that experience.
Omg! I didn't realize how dang huge this thing is. It's one thing seeing it a a video, but totally different IRL. I love mine so much!!
They are nice - aren't they?
I find it amusing that one TH-cam commenter wondered if I was connected with the HyperPowerSports Seller? I had so much trouble initially with my first two scooters, and I mean real issues, that every time I took the scooter apart I made a manual complete with photographs of how I did it. To get the seller's attention when I had those issues I told him I'd send him the manuals free if he'd just address my issues expeditiously to get me up and running again. And the scathing review at that time on Amazon also helped. To his credit he did address it quickly. In total I have five HyperRacing Repair Manuals aprpos to the 1500 & 1600 Watt 48 volt Off-Road Tire Scooter Model (not the little one) to (1) replace the CONTROLLER, (2) replace the MOTOR, (3) replace the WHEEL BEARINGS, (4) SHRTENING THE SEAT for younger -smaller riders, and (5) one more that I forgot. If interested - send me a message.
Phoebe Snow is it hard to swap out the motor an controller
Got my 2000 watt scooter with lithium. it is killer. So incredibly powerful and quick. Trip to store outside my neighborhood not even 1 block away is a breeze. I just blast up there. Light is bright. Horn is loud. Brakes are great but squeak loudly in front. It is bumpy like you said as I did not get the bigger size wheel model. But it is great on paved streets and sidewalk. I ordered street tires but received off-road tires and he is sending me some new street tires. Lithium battery has ridiculous range. Thanks for all your help.
Congrats! I envy you being able to use it on regular roads - wish we could here for short trips. Have really pushed our scooters this summer using them daily. They've held up well, few problems beyond that expected, and the batteries in their 2nd year are holding up well. Standard headlights all fell of and we replaced them with these www.ebay.com/itm/125W-Motorcycle-CREE-U5-LED-Headlight-Fog-Driving-Lamp-Spot-Light-For-BMW-US-/272242611322?fits=Make%3ABMW&hash=item3f62ec947a:g:cpwAAOSw7W5XNrwz&vxp=mtr
awesome. That is the light that came on mine! They are bright. I have passed multiple police cars , as the county headquarters are behind my house, and nobody has said anything. It basically qualifies as an ebike, as it is an assist vehicle for 20mph or less. They don't know it can go over that. Anyway, I'm sure it's a grey area, but I'm just sorta going with it. I more or less have been on the sidewalks. Glad to know about link for replacement light when mine fails.
We powered up the Hyper Racing Scooters on this first great spring day (3/26/2016). The temperature was just over 40 but the ground was still frozen where it generally is very soft and wet at this time in the spring. So it was great riding on hard pack ground. The batteries were kept inside all winter and were still warm (as opposed to being very cold & a little slow) when we tried them out. It was terrific. No hard starting, no checking the gas or oil, no cleaning the carburator or removing shellac, no priming the spark plug with gas to start them as we used to have to do with the gas powered scooters. We just installed the battery and took off. It was terrific!. I used to have to spend so much time getting and keeping 6 gas scooters going at this time of the year. This is going to be another great summer. For anyone sitting on the fence with the scooters I cannot recommend them enough. We may register some of them with NY state to use on ATV trails (a requirement in NY state that apparently is not required in Florida). And now the same scooter is sold with 1600 watt motors so there is more power available. But the 1500 watt was more than sufficient for our needs as noted in this video. If interested search for HyperPowerSports in Florida. Their price and service cannot be beat. And no - I am not connected with them in any way - just a happy customer.
+Phoebe Snow ..........Please everyone, try to avoid what you just saw in this video. The screws/bolts on these type of scooters in time get very loose. Especially, in these kind of terrains. These scooters are meant for mainly flat roads. Even-though they have good suspension, the screws holding up the steering wheel can become loose and you can end up flying off the scooter face first. Also, you shouldn't ride too close to anything moving ahead of you at fast speeds because if the person on front of you crashes or an animal or person jumps in the path of the scooter or vehicle in front of you then that car will crash or hit the brakes and you will ram face first into the person or animal on front of you. Please, remember that. My best friend died like that on one of these exact scooters.
I wholeheartedly disagree with this comment regarding the scooters failing. We use our scooters everyday on bumpy off-road surfaces and have not experience any of what was stated here. Of course our use is off main highways or roads with dangerous traffic, on well traversed & groomed trails and paths, and not in vehicular traffic, and we average about 15-20 mph on any given ride just the speed noticed in the video. We have kids as young as 10 and adults who are seniors riding them and perhaps that ride is slower at 15 mph. But the scooters are very well built. Like any scooter, moped, or motorcycle (or any mechanical riding device) it's wise to check them over periodically and we do that routinely. But where we have experienced initial trouble with the motors & controllers not working (that we overcame) we have not experienced any eScooter coming undone. And I say that having five of them that I personally maintain myself. I built and flew an ultralight airplane for over 20 years and perhaps my experience checking that over as one does with a private airplane carried over such that I utilize that same vigilance with the eScooters as well. But that is also just plain common sense. However, I will agree that riders should space themselves which we do except for the liberty taken making this video so that we could view the riders ahead of us.
I have this scooter and was impressed with the build. Its quite heavy duty and well suited for off road riding. Where riders need to be cautious, accountable, and not be on top of each other, I'm certainly not worried about the scooter coming unglued while riding no more than I am with my car or Trek Bike which I ride just as fast. And rarely does one ride over 15-20 mph on these anyways off road although I have reached 35 on a paved road when I first got it to test it out. I agree with the comment above that like anything you ride you should check them over carefully before each ride.
Phoebe Snow How many amps does the controller max?
40 degrees and shorts!?! No way for me
Can you please upload more videos of this in the woods?
We don't have out Go-Pro with us and it wouldn't be much different than what is in this video. If we do it won't be for awhile. Admittedly, the Go-Pro angled down toward the ground during the last half of the video. And lastly we generally do not go that fast but did it specifically for the uploaded video as we went about 5 miles for that ride.
very cool
Looks like fun.😀
Well, the summer is ending and being a record hot one with little to no rain in upstate NY the five Hyper Racing scooters got quite a run this year. I expected more issues using them as much as we did but I had very few. I say that as we still have 5 Yamaha Riva Razz's and Qt-50's and in comparison they took a lot of effort to keep running. On a day to day basis at least 1-2 would be difficult to start, may have dirt in the gas or carburetor filter, or something else. And fiddling around with the gas, oil, etc., or parts with gas or in them, I truly do not miss at all. And I'm rather at ease not having the kids filling these scooters with gas or forgetting to put oil in them.
In contrast with my five Hyper Racing eScooters I just had one scooter with loose wires and one with a controller that went south this summer. That's it. Once again, I cannot emphasis how terrific these scooters are, how easy they are to work on, and how little actual maintenance they require. If any one acquired one and wants assistance with HOW TO manuals I prepared 5 of them complete with photographs and step by step instructions on the most common repairs (controller, motor, wheel bearings, etc.). Just message me here.
I just got one of those recently. I actually use it for commute because there is a mile long flat road between my house and a metro stop. It gets me there in no time. This machine is fast and fun to ride but it is a lot bigger than I thought. Overall I am happy. I am only worrying about the rain. The manual says you absolutely can’t ride this scooter in rainy conditions. So, is that true? Is there a way to isolate the battery with heat resistant plastic or something to prevent water from getting in?
QUES: Did you mean 1600W scooters? I only see 1600 and 2000W scooters on
their website. Also, are these lithium or lead acid batteries?
ANS: No, I meant 1500 as that is what whey were at the time I purchased them. They've been upgraded to 1600 watts since that time. My batteries are not the expensive lithium ones.
What's the furthest distance guys have gone on these scooters and any steep hill climbs? I live in PA and Ive been watching and researching these scooters for a couple months now possibly looking to buy one. Also hyperpowersports.com has the 2000watt scooters and 1800watt scooters.
QUES: Did you mean 1600W scooters? I only see 1600 and 2000W scooters on
their website. Also, are these lithium or lead acid batteries?
ANS: No, they were 1500 watt when I purchased them in 2015. They were upgraded in 2016. I did not buy the expensive lithium batteries.
How many amps does the controller put out?
I've gone about 8 miles on paved roads with minor hills certainly not as steep as you probably have in PA. I probably could have gone farther but didn't want to push my luck. These were only 1500 watts so the newer ones (1800 & 2000) will have more power although they may not have the range - just not sure as I don't have one. But the 1500 watt scooters were sufficient for us riding trails around here with minor up and down hills. We also posted a more recent video - th-cam.com/video/N2lyl8m5rdQ/w-d-xo.html
I have a Hypowersport 48 Volt/1800 Watt scooter. I crashed the first day after a car ran me off the road and I hit loose gravel. I got banged up but the scooter is okay with just a scratch. I recommend safety gear like a helmet, gloves, knee and elbow pads and good boots instead of open toed sandals.
We can't use them on public roads here in NY state but we do wear helmets , gloves and safety glasses. Our use is primarily on farm trails and woods but we are very careful and check the scooters over before each ride. But I think it is prudent for you to wear as much as you can where you can ride on public roads. Glad you're OK.
I just got a similar 48v 1500watt scooter with a LiFePO4 battery from SuperScooterSales.com. I'm in New England, so it's getting too cold to ride, but as soon as summer hits, I'm going to find me some paths like you did, and have a blast. Just 6 or 7 months to go :(
You will enjoy it. We rode through the woods this week but I over stressed one scooter and had another controller-motor burnout - my 4th one. The wires were fried and totally melted the nylon connectors. Need to get more from the China manufacturer. Will have to fix it next spring and perhaps solder the connections. Be aware this can and will happen. Found ourselves on soft ground with a 3 inch layer of leaves and a hill to climb from a dead start. It was too much. Since we closed our cottage I will have to repair it next spring. All of our trails were made, mowed and groomed all summer just for riding.
Cool!
Thanks. Can't wait until spring to use them again. They are so much easier to maintain then gas scooters and mopeds.
It was a great location to test it out.
well! Waiting for spring)))
Also, how much more torque do you think the hill climbing kit gives it?
"Hill Climbing Kit"? What does that refer to?
+Phoebe Snow It's a smaller 72 tooth chain sprocket.
OK, I follow you. Where it will be better on hills it will be slower on straight-aways. I've educated our riders to back off power on hills during a long ride. That is when we encountered wire burn outs. Except for starting a ride we ease off on hills by backing off the power so that the motor-controller-wires do not get hot and melt. If need be we
just creep up a hill until we can increase the power over the top. We've not had any burnouts cognizant that the escooters work differently than the former gas scooters. When we first got them we powered them
full on hills, as we used to do with the gas scooters, and encountered the burnouts. We bring extra fuses with us but have not had burnouts since the first few weeks - just an occasional burnt fuse.
+Phoebe Snow So what do you mean? Can you summarize this?
I don't stress the escooters by giving them full power when they cannot be responsive. As an example - starting up a hill in rough ungroomed terrain. In my frame of my mind it's too much stress for the scooters. I would ease the scooter under low power past this point and then up the power on firmer groomed terrain.
can you send a link to the porcelain terminal block
and do you think it would fit the 2k w scooter with 60v
www.ebay.com/itm/321525943014?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I don't know for certain as I don't have that scooter.
Do they have a lot of power and torque? Like maybe 2HP?
They are very powerful on take off such that you must ease into it. Torque is unnoticeable if any. My comparison is to the gasoline powered Yamaha QT-50's and Yamaha Riva Razz's which these replaced. And they compare in power very well. Major pluses are: - no fueling with gasoline, fumes from riders ahead of you, very quiet almost noiseless, no oil except occasional oil on chain drive, and no repeated cranking to start - they just GO. We had a full moon last night and with high intensity LED lights mounted on each scooter had a terrific long night ride through the woods.
Are these scooters going to last a while? Like years on end?
I don't see why not. I have five from last year and all are going strong. And they are ridden almost every day in the summer. Like any mechanical device they do need periodic maintenance (oil the chain, tighten the chain, etc.) but it's nothing compared to what has to be done on gas powered scooters (adding gas, oil, cleaning carburetor filters, gas filters, changing spark plugs, etc.).
How are the scooters holding up? battery range?. I just ordered mine also. thanks for the video.
Its funny you asked, David. Today was just a gorgeous day in upstate New York. We closed our cottage on Lake Ontario and took one last long ride through woods. They were alive with color and the leaves were falling like snow blanketing all 6 miles of trails. The trails were all dry with no wet spots, quite soft with inches of fresh fallen leaves, and we could very easily traverse all of the trails. We really hated to leave it was so nice. But the scooters are holding up very well, thank you. Having five of them I order many spare parts - some from the dealer and some from the manufacturer in China. I wanted to be ready in case a wheel bearing, motor, accelerator or controller failed. I'm sure you will enjoy it. We used to ride Yamaha Mopeds but gave them up for these qui9et electric scooters. If you have any difficulty, feel free to contact me as I wrote six "HOW TO" manuals specifically for these scooters.
Thats awesome, thanks again and safe riding.
Suggest you contact me for more information on the scooter through the dealer. He knows who I am. I'll let him know that you will be asking how to contact me.
+David Johnson Hello
+David Johnson If you are on today respond. I'll send you a specially created email address for contact. Some things you should be aware of.
Does anyone know if these "hyperpowersports" scooters are good? I ordered a 1600 watt 48 volt hyper racing gold e-scooter from the website 2 days ago. It was my first expierence ordering from them and I just need to know if these scooters break down or die easily. Get back to me when you can. Thank you
If you bought the electric scooter from HyperPowerSports you're in good shape. Which model did you buy - off road tire (large) or on road tire (small tires). And where and how do you plan to use it?
I've purchased the street tire model because previously on the site the reviews said that the off road tires ware out easier. I mainly plan on using the scooter 4-5 times a week on a paved 4 mile round trip.
The scooters themselves are terrific. The scooter in this video is the large tire and larger frame more adult size scooter. The Gold e-scooter is smaller and is bumpier riding much like the UberScoot. On paved roads you should be fine but the smaller tires are a little bumpier than the larger ones. However, it is easier to transport. Initially, we had trouble with the controller to the motor wires burning up. The connectors were housed in plastic and were too weak and melted. It was frustrating but I believe it comes with the e-turf. I bought terminal blocks for all five of mine and now have no issues with them. Rick at HPS is good to work with. Are you in a state where you do not have to license them? NY highly regulates them and they can only be used on ATV trails and must have a limited license & insurance. We use ours on private property and do not need the license.
I live in northwest Vermont, (very close to NY). You cannot use gas scooters and cycles in the public areas but electric vehicles are legal.
You should be all set. They are very nice although I truly like the larger frame scooter. No one likes to ride our UberScoot which is similar to your scooter. But we use ours off-road on trails and that is where the UberScoot rides hard. Most of our riders are adults and they prefer the larger frame scooter. Here is a photo of all five - www.amazon.com/Hyper-racing-Electric-Scooter-Street-Hypertoyz/dp/B00REOQNWE
I Phoebe, I think I talked to you're fsther last summer. I worked at the Outdoor toy store and am a BIL of Glenn. I am interested in the scooter and would like some info....
Hello. Actually that was me you spoke with (Phoebe is our Black Labrador Retriever). These scooters are sold by HyperToyz or HyperPowerSports.com out of Florida. They are sold from their website, Ebay and were sold on Amazon. I found the Chinese Company where they are made as well (call me for that info - you know how to reach me). They also sell the smaller UberScoot type scooter but I would strongly recommend the larger tire scooter particularly for off-road use. Those little frame/tire scooters may work OK on paved roads but are very bumpy on gravel and trails. I have had many people inquire on the five that we have and any dealer who sells them (like your dealership) would do very well in our remote northern NY region. They are terrific. I may even get a 6th one this summer. We have 5 gas mopeds that we replaced with these electric scooters. No more monkeying around with gas, oil, no-starts in humid weather, stall outs or gas fumes when your the last rider in a group. Plus the electrics are super quiet but equally as powerful. I'm content and quite happy with my 1500 watt scooters even though now you can get them at 1600 watts. Great "hearing" from you! Regards............
Ar you taking me up on my suggestion and considering these for the store? I think there is a niche for them. Your welcome to try ours for a test run, if interested, as we have 6 of them.
Are you sure it's not a 1600 watt?
DEAD SURE! They were upgraded from 1500 watts in 2015 to 1600 watts in 2016. I purchased spare 1500 watt controllers and motors direct from the Chinese Company last year.
what kind of issues?
Thanks, I'm thinking of getting another one. The 2000w with small wheel. Where are your how to video?
Sorry in the how to manuals
Oh ok, sounds like you have been busy...
Ouch...glad to hear you have things working now. I am going to drive down to miami and see up close the 2000w model. Then decide if its up to par. And hopefully get all the info you have gained abkut these scooters.
I'm assuming you bought from hyper in miami? How is Rick? He someone good as far as problems after the sale?
Price.?
At that time about $600. Now the price is about $1,000.
$Back then about $550. Now they are about $1,000.
in omaha could i ride on the sidewalks
I envy you for that! Even on county/state (NY) rail trails you have to have a limited registration under a special ATV category. That requires proof that you paid sales tax on the scooter, have registered your scooter, and have insurance on it as well. A costly decision if you don't have private property to ride on. But probably worth it for longer riding.
