    Hey, I have the R6 and you’re spot on with the biggest flaw, but for me i just don’t need to switch between video and photo that quickly so I don’t mind it too much, it’s just a hassle to adjust ISO and shutter speed every time I change frame rates.
    Also, I had the freezing issue as well, but I upgraded my SD card and no more freezing. I had the Lexar 1000x V60 card in it, but I guess it wasn’t fast enough to I upgraded to the 1667x and now it works flawlessly with no hiccups.

    One potential slight "remedy" for the lack of dedicated "photo/video" switch like on 90D, is to use C3 custom photo profile as your photo mode, which is just one "click" away from the full-video mode, so that could quickly become muscle memory so you can switch modes without getting the camera off your eye.

    I'm exactly like you. I shoot hybrid at weddings. Had an EOS R. Bought the R6. Canon needs a firmware fix for being able to make a custom setting for when you hit the video record button in photo mode. If they don't I'll have to dump it for an R5. I NEED that control over video when i hit that REC button in photo mode. When I use it as a video camera only with a Atamos Ninja V, its stellar. No overheating, no issues. I just need that flexibility of being able to change video settings when you hit that REC button in photo mode!

    When I was using an R and RP I had this same quick video complaint about my RP. I’ve got two R’s now and currently have an R5 in my possession (borrowed) and I was getting ready to buy an R6 after returning the R5 (45mp files suuuuuck and I don’t want to start getting CF express cards to use two slots) but I hadn’t even considered this video hiccup. I hate going into a menu with the R and R5 to change modes but I do appreciate having custom video settings because of those menus. No easy answer, I guess.

      I don't think it's about the bitrate so much. I believe it is more about the method the image scales down to 1080p from the full sensor. It seems that the R6 does some frame skipping at 1080p and doesn't scale straight from the full sensor read out.

    It seems like with some firmware polishing, the R6 has potential to undercut the A7SIII at 4K60. If your listening, Canon, fix the freezing and optimize the overheating, and then this camera might bring a lot more people to your EOS system.

    Appreciate your honest real world review. I too find it frustrating that you can't just setup the record button like in the R. I hope they will add that feature to create video settings for the custom dials (C1-C3) in a firmware update (doubt it). I have heard that they will add C-Log3 and All-i in the November firmware update. The All-i may help with the overheating as the processor won't have to do as much compared to IPB trying to compress the file. I haven't had any overheating issues yet shooting in 4k 60fps for 3hrs in 78 degrees, I was mostly shooting short bursts and then put the camera to sleep (I used it like I did my R), but I'm sure I will at some point if I don't pay attention. I did have my R6 freeze up on me and had to remove the battery a few times, but I narrowed it down to a bad Lexar Pro USH-II V60 card as it did the same in my R. Great work and review.

      @davidjorozco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you my friend. That’s interesting, and I know I am hopeful as well but like you I really doubt it, not really Canon-like of them to do it but who knows. The ALL-I and CLOG 3 would definitely be a welcome addition for sure. The freezing thing is rather interesting, I was using a Sony Tough card that I’ve been using for a decent amount of time and a 128gb that I guess its possible that could have been the culprit. Definitely will need more testing. Appreciate your comment!

    You mentioned the IBIS is good. I like how you explained as long as you’re *trying* to be still, it is good. So it is more than a gimmick? I haven’t been a fan of the wobble... Thanks in advance. Zach

    • @davidjorozco
      @davidjorozco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Appreciate it man! The IBIS is definitely good. The wobble is a thing but all of my shots were handheld without a cage. I would imagine with a cage it would look great. As far as for a video only shooter I would say it’s worth it for the 4k60 because it’s soo good. You just may have to manage the heat BUT I will say even the 1080 footage handled better than the R in terms of editing latitude. I would stick with it and use it and see if anything is a deal breaker for your style of shooting. Cheers man!

    • @alansach8437
      @alansach8437 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good example of "needing" more megapixels. So you can more readily crop in. For me, the smaller files are a plus 98% of the time. Of course, you can shoot smaller files with the R5, but I think most of us would be tempted to just shoot 45 mp, "just in case", which could fill a lot of hard drives fast! The largest print I normally make is 20x30, and I've been making beautiful prints in that size with 12 and 16 mp cameras for years ( some of which hang in galleries), so 20 is plenty for me. I also wouldn't hesitate making a larger print using Topaz Gigapixel should the occasion arise. A real game changer for those of us who only occasionally make huge prints.

    what does it mean to record in C log ? Is it a feature available out-of-the-box on the camera ?

    • @davidjorozco
      @davidjorozco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Angel! C log is like a color profile you can record video in that is extremely “flat” in terms of contrast and color for the purpose of preserving the most dynamic range in a scene. It requires that you “correct” the footage in post production to get a usable image, but if used properly it will give you the most out of your cameras dynamic range. It is a feature that the Canon EOS R, R6, & R5 have out of the box. Hope this helps!

    Does the 1080 in general lack detail? I feel like for the last decade Canon has never been able to make 1080 video actually look like 1080. The detail is terrible compared to every other camera....I figured they would have figured that out by now? The 1080/120 was the only quality/frame rate combo I wasn’t happy with. Honestly I am very fond of Canon’s 1080 @ both 24 & 60. High bit rates on the EOS R, R6, & R5 make it more than enough for TH-cam, Instagram, & wedding work in my opinion. Relative to 4k60 & 4k120 it isn’t as good but it shouldn’t be. Full confidence for me in their 1080’s.

      Definitely not. 20 megapixels is plenty. I am not sure what "larger" prints are for you but you should easily be able to print 24x36 and 40x60. Using photoshop to size your file specifically for that print will help immensely as well. Their enlargement algorithms are superb. The only reason it would limit a shooter is due to technique whether it would be poor shooting technique, improper sizing in post production, and even poor quality printers.

    • @davidjorozco
      @davidjorozco  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are a bit different however I actually find the colors more pleasing on the R6. Couple things can play into this: the camera profile that you are using can exacerbate the colors or neutralize them. I prefer the neutral profile. If you still are getting unpleasant RAW files, you can fix this one of two ways. Design a preset in LR that will "cool" your images down if you find them too warm. The second would be to use the in-camera White Balance correction where you can adjust the white balance behavior.
      Again this is totally preference but with RAW files is easily fixable, hope this helps!
