Interesting! I could see that. But hey, only having to use two batteries all day is pretty great. I remember my old Sony A7Sii days where I was eating through 6-7 batterie a wedding day -_-
I am comparing my experience with my DSLRs where 1 battery would last 2 or 3 full days. Yes I know mirrorless cameras use more juice but the difference is stunning and the price of Canon lp-e6nh prevents me having 3 or 4. I shoot wildlife and sports so it is different to shooting weddings.

Very nice and thoughtful video man! But at some part your voice and the music is on the same level and quite distracting. On the other hand, keep up the good work!
Your comments re: "no backup recording" (see: 09:00 in the posted video) should be clarified. Looking at the R6 manual (pages 692 > 697), it appears still images may be recorded at equal quality simultaneously - but, this setup will reduce the max burst rate. Video recording does not appear to have a "backup recording" option (I suspect the processor cannot accommodate this data crunch). Stay safe.
For me it was budget and accessibility. I knew I would need to invest in some faster cards but also it was $1300 more so ultimately, the R6 won out because it still did everything I needed. Was I ever going to use the Raw function, eh, maybe. But it isn't a demand that I need for my workflow currently.

I was considering an R6 as a backup body for the R5, but after a few months with the R5 I would go with a second R5 as a backup / alternate body - as a photographer the reason I wanted dual card slots is so I can shoot RAW + jpg to both cards , I think for video even though you can’t shoot dual you can copy the file between cards to create a backup?
You can shoot/back up photos simultaneously to both cards, but not video 🙂
@@joenicolette if something is important though you can copy everything to the second card in body as soon as you’ve finished key shots :D I am mostly doing photography, shooting Raw + small jpg to both cards :)
I only shoot stills and find that it chews up batteries. I need at least one spare for a full day.
Interesting! I could see that. But hey, only having to use two batteries all day is pretty great. I remember my old Sony A7Sii days where I was eating through 6-7 batterie a wedding day -_-
@@gerardorodriguez7858 So I mention 2 batteries get me about 4 hours of record time so on a traditional 8 hour wedding day I use about 3/4
I am comparing my experience with my DSLRs where 1 battery would last 2 or 3 full days. Yes I know mirrorless cameras use more juice but the difference is stunning and the price of Canon lp-e6nh prevents me having 3 or 4. I shoot wildlife and sports so it is different to shooting weddings.
@@davidlee7094 Very cool! Yeah, I mean battery life is so important for what I do especially and its just exciting this whole new wave of cameras coming out.
cool. why didn't you consider R5?
I definitely did. For me, it was just a budget thing. The R6 offered everything I needed and made more sense in the realm of weddings.
You shoot with a UHS-1 card for video with this camera?
Yeah, one day I will upgrade to a faster write speed but I have been using what is available. Honestly, they have been getting the job done.
The photo mode switching to the weird video mode is a deal breaker for me as a music photographer... bummer
Hi! I’m also worried about the switching which is stopping me from buying the R6 as I’m a hybrid 50/50 photo and video shooter. Do you recommend any camera? I’m currently looking to upgrade mine
Very nice and thoughtful video man! But at some part your voice and the music is on the same level and quite distracting. On the other hand, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the feedback! I always appreciate it!
Stay safe.
May I ask why you didn’t get the R5 instead? I’m torn between the two.
For me it was budget and accessibility. I knew I would need to invest in some faster cards but also it was $1300 more so ultimately, the R6 won out because it still did everything I needed. Was I ever going to use the Raw function, eh, maybe. But it isn't a demand that I need for my workflow currently.
@@WaywardNorth thanks! And are you shooting your films in 4K or 1080p? If 4K, what are you doing to prevent overt heating?
Thanks for the quick response!
@@itspaulyall_ No problem! I do record in 4K and usually export in 1080 for wedding clients. For youtube, I export in 4K. For weddings I don't normally shoot longer than 5 minutes at a time. This cam is my roamer for ceremonies so Im not passing the 17 minute record limit. As long as you don't exceed the time limit for recording in 4k you should be good.
@@WaywardNorth thanks! I need a camera with Ibis before April and already have tons of EF glass. Crossing my fingers it works well with the glass I have for now! Can’t get an R5 likely before then so shooting for the R6.
The perfect camera for me in terms of photo & video capabilities and price is the R
Great camera and fantastic review man 💪 Personally I also take R6 as a more stills not video focused camera. A great hybrid or B Cam but definitely not for professional videographers. Btw hate those heavy files (proxies only!) and no option to pre view C log videos on Mac!
Thanks so much! Yeah proxies are necessary - not a fan of that processing time but I still love the camera regardless
Very informative! Thank you.
Absolutely! Happy to help!
Could you share some raw footages of the R6 in C-Log please.
I was so onboard until I saw the no back up recording. What were they thinking!!!
I know....It is such a bummer. Really makes no sense.
That could be fixed with a firmware update perhaps🤔
@@DigitalDVDDesigns I hope so!
Good stuff bro
Thanks man!
So you haven't experienced any overheat on the camera ? (Sorry for my english )
Not yet. I did get the warning around 17 Minutes of constant record time. So, ideally it wouldn't be great long recordings.
Great video. Quite a bummer about the photo switching to video part, but what a great camera through and through🙌
Thank you sir! That is quite the bummer, but I think it is still a great camera none the less.
@@WaywardNorth do you think these are just software issues that can be fixed with an update? Or it's purposely locked until next iteration?
@@emptyskullify Great question. Knowing Canon, I doubt it will be a hot fix in an update. Unless it is something more and more people complain about it probably won’t happen. :(
This camera seems incredible, epic review and footage, really wanna pick it up and try for my channel too. Greetings from Hong Kong 🌆😊
Thanks so much! I have really enjoyed this camera a lot and I am sure you will too!
I'm surprised you only use UHS-I SD cards.
Yeah I’ll upgrade eventually but why fix what ain’t broke ya know?
@@WaywardNorth Because you can record in 4K 60p Canon Log on UHS-I cards.
I thought 10bit was only available in C-Log? I may be wrong.
Not at all. I only run C-log with this camera and I am outputting 10 bit.
Nicely done, enjoyed that
Thank you!
Why did the TH-cam algorithm show me this video after watching your latest video about selling it?😂
Haha gotta love that algorithm
R6... The missing of the top lcd screen is a deal breaker. How can they sell a 2700€ professional camera without a top screen. That is all i look at for 90% of the cases. It looks like a rebel Ti.
What do you mean by Top LCD Screen? Are you talking about a secondary monitor on top of the camera?
I've never even looked at the top LCD on my R or R5 lol
Ngl he sounds like Peter McKinnon
Thanks so much for the review, very helpful! For those that might have any additional questions, I recently found Canon chat very useful, they can be found here: www.canon.co.uk/canonlive/live-chat/?. Thanks again for great content!
Canon is doing good but Nikon is rising from the ashes like a Phoenix
The perfect camera is the one you have on you at the time.
Insightful. I love it!
The R6 can not save any Video Setting to the Custom Programms C1-C3 like the EOS R and R5. There you can save your Video settings to C1. Now when you in Photo mode you can record directly with the C1 saved settings by pressing the Video Record button. Shame on you canon..... SHAME ON YOU!
cripple hammer...
I can do all what you do with a 200$ Canon T5i
Amazing review! thank you 🙏
