      All he had to do was spot how sacrificing a queen and a bishop all the way to f7, would allow him to gobble up pretty much all pawns... and checkmate waay sooner.

    • @JJ_R
      @JJ_R 2 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      @@PHeMoX What’s funny is that the very first image of the video is a move that leads to that;

      @@JJ_R Yeah I guess he checked afterwards what was the best move and reason for the high eval bar for white. He doesn't play with evaluation bar on of course. But I didn't even spot that necessarily. When looking for ways to punch through all the pawns, this was the only thing I find. And it makes sense the eval bar is so high, seeing how forcing it is.

    • @constablemittens
      @constablemittens 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Looking at the start my first thought was how quickly you could get a queen over to start putting him in check, but without the eval bar visible I doubt I would've been confident in it working. I probably wouldn't have gone for it in game.

The cool part is, you don't even have to defend against new queens. King behind b1 is pretty save for at least the moves you need to win.

      Eta: I see it might be 13 if the pawns turned queen force a check and king move each time after bb3 :( (I wanted to be better than stockfish, or at least as good.)

    Making this before watching the video, going off of the opening position. It looks to me black needs at the minimum 3 promoted pawns to have a chance at checkmate, so white has three moves to enact an attack. I would start with the queen at c4 taking the pawn at a6. Blacks two options are either 1) capture the queen with the pawn on b7 (which keeps black at least 3 moves away from checkmate) or 2) promote one of the pawns on f-h2. If black does capture the queen, then white has the queen at d3 take the pawn at a6, black promotes first pawn, then the queen takes the pawn at a7, black promotes pawn #2, then white moves queen a7 to b8, check. Black then moves king to either g7 or h7, doesn't matter which one. Then white moves queen from a2 to a8, black promotes pawn #3, then white goes b8 to g8 check mate. If black doesn't capture the queen, then white goes queen a6 to a7 capture pawn, black promotes pawn #2, white goes a7 to b8 check, and the rest plays out the same as the other path.

      I think the play might be to go for e6. I'm pretty sure white can break through there - the tricky part though that makes it hard for me to tell exactly how it plays out is what happens if black takes the first queen, but then ignores the bishop after it moves to e6.
      By the look of it stockfish can't tell if it's a forced checkmate or not either though otherwise the bar would be entirely white, so I guess if stockfish can't figure it out for sure then I'm not very likely to figure it out for sure either.

    When he asked if we see a check mate in 5? I think he said, how was it not check mate in 3? Queen to c8, then in two moves get the bishop - h4 then f6
    I should be considered by all accounts as the most inexperienced Chess player, next to someone who has never even heard of it. So yeah

      Hello random stranger! Your moves will make the King unable to move, which is close to a checkmate, neat!
      But he will still move his pawns afterwards. For checkmate, you have to also check the king! Not only freeze him there.
      (In beginner matches this often results in an accidental draw, for example if black had no pawns left in this match and you lock him there, he'll have no possible moves and this will end in a draw! Never forget that your final move has to be a check too!)

  • @Blockhog

    At the ending when you gave us time to see how to checkmate would this work?
    Bishop to d4
    Queen to c8
    Queen to h8

    • @pokeymaker6729
      @pokeymaker6729 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be a neat checkmate, but your opponent can still move too! Pawn to g5 opens space for the king to escape. Pawn c7-c5 (pawn on row 7 can move 2 squares) will also get rid of your bishop next turn

    White takes A6 with A2 queen. Black recaptures or promotes, doesn't matter. If recapture, white takes back on A6 with C4 queen. If promote, C2 bishop to D1 makes D1 defended by 4 pieces and impenetrable, while two white women can comfortably sneak amongst the black peasants to put the black king in an awkward position.
