you can already do this just by lightly accelerating. what you do require a high state of charge for enough torque else motor will kick in at below 50% state of charge. too much work for small benefit.

The main reason I did this install was to prove a mechanism of low mpg that could potentially be effecting millions of Gen 2 and Gen 3 Prius/Toyota Hybrid Drivetrains on the road today... You can see the preliminary video I put out about that here: th-cam.com/video/_nX6We-Exus/w-d-xo.html
Links for write ups on the issue are in the video description. I've kind of mothballed working on this any further until next spring.

Whoa the 2nd generation Prius just went from the most reliable, to the elevated status of 3rd Generation EV mode control. That's the whole reason I wanted the 3rd Generation really. I even like the manual seats you can put up and down real fast on 2nd Gen. The 3rd Gen has those electric seats those seats are dumb slow to adjust.

Is there a reason you did not install a separate switch, maybe on the dash below the steering wheel? If the wire you are running is positive voltage, your switch would need a ground wire to complete the circuit. Just thinking out loud.

I wound up grabbing the HV ECU connector from a parts car at the salvage yard so I had for the pinned wires. Haven't performed yet, though gets me thinking I should get the headlight switch flasher connector as well since seems like a good idea. I recall, and of course keep forgetting, that the Highlander and Camry maybe are potential sources for that empty slot switches. Thanks for the reminder as I completely forgot about and am glad I saw posted on priuschat. Excellent details and super thanks for sharing!

Do you know how to disable the EV speed limit on a Prius Gen2 ? I run as a plugin (18 kW)? It’s more efficient than the Gen 5! Speed limit in EV mode is 50km (35 mph)

They didnt include it cause they were required to warrenty the battery for 10 years, in order to minimize number of claims they removed the ability for ev mode since that kills the battery faster.

Actually European Gen II Priuses (or Prii?) they do have a EV button and also a EV light on the dashboard from the factory. It's installed on the left side of the steering wheel. Plus the brake DISCS on the rear wheels (not drums). I know because I own one of each (a German 2004 Prius and a Canadian 2008). I don't know though if the settings are different. The German model seems to have a slightly better mpg.

Is there a way to program the computer to keep it in EV mode past 35 mph?

Think it’s a safety thing because you will stress out the eletric motor in only ev mode

battery cannot output enough juice to go past 35-40 mph. no point for ev mode only on 2nd gen.

I think the high beam is supposed to still come on - you still need to be able to use high beams.
