Once again a great tips! Thanks. Quick question: Do you still spray your products on the lawn when it's like 90 Degrees? or do you wait? A lot of products say wait until it's like 85 Degrees, but do you think it makes that much difference?
I just make sure to spray in the evening closer to 6pm let it sit for an hour then water it in… I don’t water at night except for when I apply fert … I also have disease preventer down to just in case! 😊🙏🏾👊🏾🤙🏾
Yes, I was gonna say the same as @YardBrah
1) always mow first before fertilizing.
2) during 86° and above you should fertilize in the evening after the peak heat has passed. I just sprayed Medina HastaGro 12-4-8 on my hybrid Bermuda yesterday evening. It says not to water in for 24 hrs. Water is used to apply the solution - hose end sprayer.
I still practice this evening habit with my granulars, too. Our water restrictions are no watering 10am-6pm. So, after I apply, I can legally water it for 5-10 minutes to get the granulars to “stick” and activate. Our sidewalk grass strip has drip lines, so that is always watered in thoroughly by hand. I try to time my granular fertilizer with applying the evening before my water days.
Except for infrequent fertilizer applications, always water early morning 5-9am. Cycle and soak is great! (Run your program twice at half the total time each, with an hour soak in the middle.) Lawns are not battling extreme heat at night! It makes zero sense to regularly water at night. Your grass is thirsty by sun up, then blasted by homicidal heat. Plus, you promote insects and disease watering at night. 🤦🏻♂️ I still see neighbors watering at night, despite my advice. One lady got grubs. 🤷🏻♂️😏

Do you have any recommendations for a budget “Hudson star” like mower. I’ve been trying to find a manual reel mower that cuts under 1/2in for under $500. Any recommendations? Not opposed to electric either. Just trying to find something that’s not gas for my putting green so I can cut early in the morning.
Only thing is 13” Webb weh12r but almost impossible to obtain in the US… try eBay UK or a shipping company they buy it then ship it to you…. Might want to just bite the bullet and buy a Hudson though there is no comparison 😊🙏🏾👊🏾🤙🏾

Any advice on quinclorac use to get rid of crab grass? Im thinking of letting it go this year and killing the sh*** out of it next april/may. In canada we do not have access to tenacity/ mesotrione so its an uphill battle 😅 . would you recommend to simply kill everything in the crab patches with glypho then reseed in autumn and kill whatever pops up nex sprig with quinclorac? Anyhow love the content and I simply dont get why you only have 16k subs 🤷
I havnt used straight up quinclorac yet but I’ve heard it does wonders for crabgrass! Man I wish you guys could get tenacity it’s the best! You know what.. 10k subs was my goal in the beginning I’m super happy with all our amazing subs right now 😊👊🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾

Keep up the good work and good luck with the bent grass it can be a pain (I used to work on a golf course and all our greens were bent)... lots of fungus drought and drainage issues! But you seem to be headed in the right dirction!

i like to mix my compost in a gorilla cart with a pro-mix growing medium and/or soil then load the spreader. That way I can do like a few bags at a time and mix in other stuff like mycorrhizae.

I made one of those out of spare wire I had to test if it was worth buying, I wish I just bought it(I will this fall). mine worked really well, but not as user friendly and started to fall apart at the end. I wish they were wider though

I have always found it interesting that in US, using compost on lawn isn't popular but it is a common thing to do in Europe. We tend to rely on chemicals, especially those in granular form that are easily spread on a broadcast spreader. IMO it is one of best thing you can do for your lawn, while it doesn't give you that instant gratification of seeing the grass green up immediately (dominating your neighbor's lawn over a single weekend! woot!), doing so ensures that the soil your lawn grows in has a fresh batch of organic materials and remains healthy.
Once the temperature starts to cool down, I plan to do the same thing on my lawn too. And yes, you need to get the compost spreader if you want to do this, spreading compost without it will be an agony.

Oh no I just the dual nozzle tip that came with the Petrahd4000! For tenacity I use a little one gallon Chapin 😊🤙🏾👊🏾🙏🏾
