Just go ahead and pronounce it *Stay* Green.. that's what the employees at Lowe's call it. :) They also have a new synthetic under Sta-Green that has humic and kelp. I LOVE IT!
Yeah “Stah” sounds funny…. “Stay Green” more in line with the product. Stay green out there. I say i say i say, Stay Green.
from now on, i will haha
But that begs the question... why not just call it Stay-Green???
May I know What synthetic line is that with humic and kelp? Thanks. I could not find any locally. Nothing available in South Florida.
If the “sta” is short for “insta” then it is pronounced correctly in the video.
That is some great content! An eye opener for sure!
I have noticed the big price increase in DEF, like everything else since JB went in. Sad how lawn products have went up, like Grub Control, fertilizer, weed control, fuel, ugh, man please. It takes a hit on do it yourselfers, I can't imagine how much it has increased on folks who pay to have it done. Thanks for showing lower cost options.
prices are out of control, EVEN this bag of fertilizer was cut from 25lb to 20 lbs for the same price
Having Humic in it is the biggest plus to me. I put 2 bags of Humic DG on over all of last year but didn't see much for results; until this spring. Fast green up and the soil was just, well, fluffy. Holds water much better than ever before and it's a sandy soil. During the dry hot June we had I didn't have to water that much to keep it green, you really can't have too much humic. I'll pick up a bag and try it out.
I been using sea Kelp for years in my garden, it really makes a difference on drought tolerance.. I used Milorganite and banded it in corn rows along with other synthetic fert, the corn looks amazing!.. In the past, I was using Weaver lawn fert and triple 13 in equal amounts on the lawn because Milo was just tooo expensive. The lawn looks great using more Phosphorus and Potash with lower inputs of N.. good to know the Sta-Green fert has comparable ingredients to the Next products. I been using the Sta-Green tall Fescue turf seed, I really like the darker green color.
Glad to see that this fertilizer is getting recognition. Tried it a few times at my old house and it was awesome.
Happy 4th George!
I just spotted the Sta-Green when I was picking up some of the Lesco fert that was on deep sale. Can't beat the Sta-Green price especially if it performs well. I'm a firm believer in Humic, biochar and kelp- it takes probably 6-8 wks, and you'll notice that your lawn just looks vibrant and healthy, especially when if the early season enthusiasm inputs are backed off. And when everyone else's is struggling during a drought, yours will stay green and dormant. I had a brand new lawn that stayed dark green well into January while here in NJ, probably because of my ongoing amendments into the soil last summer.
same to you and your family as well Matt!
im excited to see the long term results 😊
STAY GREEN, my brother. Don’t overthink it
haha deal
Thanks for letting me know about this new option. I respectfully slightly disagree with a couple of things, though:
1) The best way to determine if you should or should not be putting down Phosphorous or Potassium is with a soil test. Which leads me to:
2) My soil (North Georgia) is actually fine on Potassium. What I'm actually lacking is Phosphorous.
3) You may actually find that any given fertilizer has trace amounts of lead and/or arsenic.
4) I have no issues with Milorganite being made from biowaste. It's actually digested by microorganisms, so it's not really like spreading manure on your lawn (even though plenty of gardeners use raw manure in their flower beds). It ends up being rich in carbon.
No problem! And all valid points, thanks for sharing your perspective
That was awesome George how you pulled Kyle and Jesse into your humid acid, sea kelp discussion. Thanks for the help!
they are some swell dudes:)
It’s great to see a team effort with fellow lawn TH-cam gurus!
I see you're using a handheld spreader to spread the Sta Green fertilizer. What setting did you set the spreader? I have a Scotts EdgeGuard which according to the bag is set on 6. The bag doesn't list a setting for a hand held rotary spreader, I use a Scotts HandyGreen II. Do you know the setting I have 400 sq ft of lawn and the bag is good for 4000 sq ft.
Agreed!
So sweet. I love that, too. We’re all in this together 🙌
Quality production! Laughed and learned A LOT. gonna cc my hubby into this vid🎉
Thanks a lot for having me on, George! You always bring the heat. I might have to try this new stuff myself! ❤
Thanks bro 🙏
Appreciate the time you take to fill us in about something new. I used Milorganite years ago and it wasn`t nearly as good as I`d hoped it would be.
no problem boss! appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment
Typically, Milogranite does a good job! Did you use the right amount accordingly to the size of your lawn, and is the soil compacted that's preventing the nutrients to absorb into the soil? Check your soil! You may need to dethatch and aerate your lawn.
FACTS @@slimdude2011
Great video! The price is still pretty high - in Canada the 12 kg bag is $43, but I can get 25 kg bags of 24-6-12 slow release and other similar fertilizers for just $50, almost half the price.
May I know the brand of your slow release 24-6-12 fertilizer? I am in Canada too.
When I used milorganite on my lawn I ended up with a lot of fungi in the lawn, and I had to use fungicide for two years to get rid of it. I had three types of fungi. This year no sign of it at all. I used Sta Green for the first time this year and I'm really impressed. Great video hands down. I have to say I will never use milorganite again ever.
wow never heard of it causing fungus!
thanks for sharing
Interesting that you mention that. I had a similar issue and tried to determine the cause as this was never present before. Ended up using a general fungicide too and problem seems resolved.
I’m glad you guys mentioned this, because I have been using it for years and I have come to realized that I was getting fungus on my lawn, plus I have been kind of reluctant to apply a fungicide and this just reaffirms it! Thanks guys!!!
Same thing happened to me! Had NEVER had an issue with fungus until 2018, first year of doing Milorganite. 2018 and 2019 my lawn was destroyed, and I basically had to renovate it. It turned nuclear orange. Also, that's the first year I was using the lawn striper. I've ditched that as well.
Fungus has nothing to do with what fertilizer you used. It was just a coincidence.
Thanks for detailed analysis of the 2 products. I personally stopped miligranite when the price jumped over 15 dollars.
Great video george and kudos to u for collaborating with the other guys on ur video🤙🏽it shows me that sharing ideas and results are the most important and u are doing that for us. I already have my milorganite and have used it a couple times this season but gonna definately take a look at the sta green as the milorganite has gotten a little too expensive🤜🏼
We appreciate that!
Sta-Green has stepped up their game. I've used nothing but their products this year and had awesome results
thats great to hear!
I love this video so much! A few years back I talked about not being a fan of milorganite & boy did I get flamed! So glad for you sharing some real facts & great presentation!
Thanks Chris! i remember first hearing about humic and kelp from your summer stress video many years back, seems the big box stores are catching on to your custom mixes 😂
Good old Silver Cymbal, the biggest Milorganite hater ever!! ha ha!!
Wow all the 🐐 in these comments!
Wait so now if i use milorganite, I’m gonna start getting fungus? I live in New Jersey, and the local municipality makes a product that is equal to milorganite for 799 a bag called Ocean Grow They currently use this in addition to the private fertilizing guy that I use. I also spray see kelp humic acid in super thrive from the heat stress video from silver symbol. Should I stop using morganite?
Just found your channel - great content - superbly produced. Enjoyed the Dave Chappell clip! Appreciate all the great information you provide, and the insightful comments from your loyal fans.

happy to hear you enjoyed the chappelle clip haha (had fun editing that in 😂)

I love the collaboration. High quality content and a standup guy too. Well done George
appreciate that Robert
Another former Milorganite user here. I've used Sta-Green for 2 apps now and I'm getting very nice results. I use it along with soil softener, and Root Ruckus.
thats great to hear! appreciate you sharing your experience
Hey buddy, I really appreciate your help. George, you nailed it for me. Thanks so much, and I really enjoyed the video.
Appreciate that my friend
Love the tie in with fellow enthusiasts! I will have to check this out……thanks George.
no prob mark! we appreciate it
Ive been using humic acid, sea kelp, fish fertilizer, on my front yard and it looks good i still have some bad spots along the sidewalk. Every time i would water along the sidewalk since my yard slopes down to it the water would just run off the grass and down the road. After using a lot of this stuff the water now just soaks into the ground. I saw the lawn amateur on TH-cam using 32 ounces of humic on his yard ive started using 10oz of each on mine its starting to look even better my front yard is about 1250 square feet.
Thanks bro! Always dropping fire knowledge! I'm in Texas and that heat is stoopid down here so I mean I have to water a lot but I have the greenest lawn in my subdivision. I'm going to try this new fertilizer and your video convinced me.😎
Haha dominating Texas bro! I like it!
Here in zone 9 with 80/20 perennial rye/Kentucky blue, my go-to fertilizer is Scott's with a bit of Ironite added. Super fast green up that lasts a few months
Happy Fourth of July man!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I'm 14 and really into Lawn Care! Channels like yours helped me out to get nice green grass! Ever since I was a kid I've always loved Greengrass. I'm even thinking about making lawn care videos. Anyway God bless you and your family and happy Fourth of July hope it's a good one!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks Zack! happy 4th to you n your family as well!
And you should! its a ton of fun 😀
I used this about 2 weeks ago. It really works. Bermuda lawn is doing great in 90 degree heat.
thats great to hear lester!
Thanks George for the info, great video.
No problem sir, thanks for watching
Great content George awesome to see your special guests! I’m subscribed to both channels and value their input 👍
we appreciate that Jaime!
❤❤
Sea kelp is awesome. I did an application with sea kelp, humid acid and a vitamin liquid. It cost me too much but as a one time experiment it really did make a difference.
I also am a strong user of milorganite. It just works.
Was it the N-ext brand you used? They have a liquid feet of sea kelp
Always great info thanks again brother
No prob Allen! thanks for always stopping by!
Good fertilizer. Some points to add: 1. 12.8% nitrogen is from Urea. So only around 3% from organic matter. 2. potash is from SOP which is better and expensive than MOP. 3. kelp and humic acid is only 0.5% 4. no iron in it. so you might not see wow green effect from it.
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the K source was SOP
Thank you for your recommendation. I was looking for a replacement for Melorgonite.
You're so welcome!
Great video as always. As for the Kelp I did an application this year and honestly wow the results have been great. Grass looks great and I've noticed that I don't water as much.
That’s great to hear Robert!
What brand did u use?
I got off the milorganite train two years ago after getting my first test results back. My phosphorus levels were sky rocket high. There’s only one benefit to using it and that’s that it helps you get used to spreading fertilizer without the fear of burning your lawn, however, it’s not a long term product.
Great 👍 video as always thanks for the content.
Hi I am from Illinois and I try this on my new house !
I try to fixed my lawn
I used it for the first time this spring and I give that fertilizer A+. This is the first time in many years (I have used many different fertilizers) that my grass has been a deep green longer, the grass looks healthy and has been handling the summer heat much better than before. I am a believer and I wish you had never made this video, so this fertilizer can keep a low profile and not run out or go up in price. 😩
great to hear! watch the price shoot up now haha
Yup, I usually buy 5 bags of Milo, this year only 1. Goodbye Milorganite. And since my soil test says I don't need phosphorus StaGreen is the Go To now. Thanks George! I was about to buy Humic Acid too.
OMG.!.!.! I love the collaboration with the other TH-camr‼️💪🏾 Great video, now this Sta Green fertilizer will start increasing in price.
Haha thanks! And I’m sure it will 😂
❤❤❤
Awesome videos ! Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge as it’s been really helpful for someone like me who is just getting into the lawn game. Since I’m in Massachusetts was wondering if even at this time of year can I spread the tenacity /superfectant on crabgrass that’s coming through? ( I wasn’t able to put down a pre emergent this year i I planted all new seed around early April … thx again man!
thanks!
and sure you can just be sure to apply in evening as you dont want the sun to beam on it all day
@@PrincessCutLawnCare awesome thanks !
Always wanted to try this fertilizer but it wasnt available in nyc. This year it is. Thanks for the great vid.
No problem, thanks for watching!
Thanks George, always looking for a good organic solution.
No problem!
Just to be clear, it’s natural based not organic just like milorganite
Thanka man! I'm going to give this product a try!
Hope you like it!
I always wondered what the obsession with milorganite was. Great video George!
It's because it used to cost like $8 or $10 per bag over 5-10 years ago. It was super cheap for the performance. They probably can't manage their costs, so it's priced the same as regular fertilizer now, if it's applied at their recommended heavy rate.
Thanks Justin!
Have been using this for a year, possibly location based. I definitely like the added micro nutrients.
Great to hear!
Just got some. Prill size is very nice, and the price is right. Packaged nicely. Only time will tell.
Thanks for including me on this one George!
Another note on Milorganite, it has forever chemicals in it. Im VERY hesitant to put it down because of that reason alone!
Great stuff bro!
No problem bro! and thanks for sharing!
ive been hearing alot of these pfas chemicals but id be lying if i told you i knew exactly what they were
What was the name of the bag?
@@dzep91Sta Green. Get at Lowes.
Never heard of Milorganite but I do have a lawn care company that applies the chemicals to my yard. I believe Sta-Green is pronounce Stay-Green
@@ninetails1553 thank you! ✌🏼
Thanks! I am in! I am going to buy it for my cold season lawn, but will wait until late August to apply ( I live in Massachussetts )
awesome! good luck!
I have to see if they stock that in Minnesota!
That potassium boost alone will help my KBG a lot!
Such a good video! Love the collabs too!
thanks vince!

Great colabortation from fellow lawn care TH-camrs
❤❤❤
Been using the generic 10-10-10 for a couple years now and it works great.
love me a good 10-10-10
Hi George! Seeing your channel 1st time but I just also sub'd. I live near Houston, TX, and have San Augustine grass here. I'm really having issues with the grass plant leaves turning yellow in spots. Could I have a potassium deficiency? And if so, Milorganite won't solve it? Just bought my 1st bag of Milorganite to use, ever, but I think now I will switch to the Sta-Green. Love your channel, as my lawn and flower beds are a huge part of my life. Thanks for all he helpful ad5vice & suggestions. I will be watching your older videos , so I can catch up!
Hello friend! thank you so much for the sub also thank you for explaining to me what the pfas chemicals are
as far as the yellowing goes... i would have a soil test done to see what, if any deficiencies you may have
Great stuff George. I always like mixing it up. I know some people find a product that works and they just stick with it. To me, that’s boring. Part of the appeal of this hobby (for me anyway) is trying new fert, tech, processes, etc. Like Eddie Murphy said, sometimes you gotta mix in a Ritz… those Saltines get old 😂 I’ll be snagging a bag of this for sure.
haha love that you mentioned eddie murphy! raw is some of my favorite stand up specials of all time 😂
Me too
This is a zero phosphorus 16-0-10 where milo is a zero potassium 6-4-0 product, so they don't compare exactly, still would use milo for a reno and seeding. This would be useful approaching or during summer and when there are phosphorus restrictions, and would give you some potassium that a lot of fertilizers lack.
It has urea, feather meal, potassium sulfate in addition to sea kelp and humate.
Was struggling with irrigation this year. Lack of rain got my lawn dormant. This fall I want to dethatch and overseed. Hopefully get a beautiful lawn that stands out from the rest of my neighbors. Currently stands out since I’ve moved in because the previous home owners didn’t take care of the lawn. But being a beginner at this I’m not sure what grass types I currently have. I know I have KBG and Tall Fescue but there are other grasses I’m seeing that I cannot identify.
Good luck with you fall project!
Thanks for sharing!
@@PrincessCutLawnCare between you, LCN, lawnlife, and RyanKnorr I know I can do this!
Be aggressive with the dethatcher if you’re lawn is in bad shape, it is the biggest difference maker of anything you can do for a normal lawn
Good stuff will have to try it. Humic I used, results take a while to appreciate, not a 2-3 day thing. One day you'll notice lawn is looking strong, and have that ah ha moment. Kelp, I've used on flowers, they like it, healthier and stronger, fit you could say.
Good to know, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for another great video George! I almost choked on my breakfast when Jessie came on. 😂 You guys are the best!! As always, great informative content. Keep up the good work, and I love the salute!
I'm very very very sneaky. I pop up everywhere 😂 haha jk
Thanks for the support brother!
Thanks for all the info on the new fertilizer. My soil is lacking in Phosphorous so is a requirement for me and Hosta growers like using Milorganite because it helps with deer pressure.
I use the Sta Green for Southern Lawns with iron and it works great in Austin
thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video. Will look into it but looks like it’s not at my local Lowe’s as yet.
Great video George.. I will have to try a couple bags of that.
Thanks mike!
With fertilizer end goals are a huge thing. P high is blooms and reproductive. Turf is not a high user like a vegetable garden or grain field (assuming no clipping removal). K is general health and roots. Very needed by all plants. Some soils are abundant some not. N is green growth but excess amounts and rapid release are nit required for turf. Grain crops are using more and more humic acid. Its has many benefits but it is a longer term play. I have a supplier making a shrimp product called catalyst. Most any organic material is good for turf. If compost was affordable it would be great to add an inch every 3-5 years.
Already threw this down for second app this year- so far, so good especially with Milo being so expensive now.
Great video, I would also add that the Milorganite covers 2,500 sf. per bag where the Sta-Green covers 5,000 for about the same money.
Thats a plus for sure, but the amount of Humic Acid is pointless. I believe 0.6%? Probably just a way to capture the end consumer by mentioning Sea Kelp and Humic
Thanks for the really informative video.
No problem!
I like the original Milorganite (the black bb's) around my garden, it has an aroma that many animals just do not like. The groundhogs were eating up my green beans, but using Milorganite keeps them away
Another way to keep groundhogs out of your garden and property overall, is to spread the extra hot, crushed cayenne pepper around the parameter of your home, inside and outside of your garden. It works!
@@slimdude2011 I would have to buy an awful lot of crushed pepper, I like it on pasta and scrambled eggs too.
Milorganite was almost ignored at my local stores. I bought them at 10 dollars a bag to try it out. It was great and as time went one Milorganite became hard to find. Time for a replacement.
i remember when it was 6 bucks lol
was a pretty good value prop back then
Milorganite is still a great frertilizer.
@@arbyc8736 It is but the reason I don’t use it anymore is due to the smell the first two days. Not a problem fir me but it seems to attract a lot of pets around my neighborhood and then they do their business in my yard.

awesome video, definitely going to try this
I like to see what new products are coming out, right now the Lowes in Salt Lake does not carry what you have introducing. The three numbers Nitrogen phosphate potash are only part of the tale to keep your lawn healthy; you have to have the right product with the right numbers and don't forget the micronutrients iron, magnesium, manganese, copper and Sulphur. Depending on your soil where you live, elevation and what is already in your soil just settling in on the newest fertilizer may not be the right for your soil. Have a sample of your soil sent for analysis. I have to choose a lawn fertilizer without potash since the soil in northern Utah already has enough. When I had my soil tested at Utah State Agricultural college I was slightly low on iron and nitrogen. To keep my lawn green and growing at an elevation of 4500 feet and dry hot temps I also have to gut my lawn at 3.5 inches high during June July and August.
Look around for stores that specialize in selling fertilizer to landscapers and professionals and see what other products may better work for your soil. There is probably a college near you that leans agricultural that may have recommendations unique to your area and elevation.
Now I am heading to Lowe's to purchase a bag of "Sta-Green"!
Trying to obtain MILOGRANITE has been a Challange in my Western Washington State region for the past 5 years, I am just hoping that the "Sta-Green" lives up to y'all's reviews...
You will love it 😊
Milogranite is plentiful here in Toledo. All the Home Improvement stores have it in stock, even Walmart. Have you thought about ordering it from Amazon?
I found sta green a couple of weeks ago and I can't wait to try it (been using more expensive stuff). The ingredients look great. I also have the same hand spreader as you - what product setting do you associate with on the fertilizer specified settings? I tried to get Scotts to respond but they weren't any help.
Hi! i put in on setting 1 and keep walking my lawn multiple times until the hopper is emptied
Learned a lot, thank you! Need to take a ride over to Lowe’s…
Have fun!
I hate and LOVE watching your channel. Did my POS lawn get better? Absolutely! Does it take some sweat and more sweat? ABSOLUTELY. Did I see results? ABSOLUTELY! Thank you for your videos! I have learned a lot!
I normally apply milorganite every Labor day. I'm giving this a try. I like everything you said about it. How long should I wait to overseed after applying this stuff?
Thanks for the great advice! Do you think sta-green natural can be used as a carrier for pre-germinated seed?
Great video. Thanks for breaking it down for us.
Sounds like Stay-Green is the way to go
haha thanks jack!
Great video !!! Very interesting 🤔 Definitely going to get a few bags !!
thanks and cool!
Happy 4th of July! Very interesting find there George, I think i'm gonna have to go to lowes and pick some up and try it myself
happy late 4th andy!
Dope video , digging the collabs
thank you my friend!
❤❤
in my area, you could get that in the 25 pound bag. They lowered it to the 20 pound bag and still kept the price. I guess its popular haha.
wow really? thats interesting
i have a feeling its about to get a whole lot more poplular now
I wold like to know when applying seasons!!
I just picked up two bags of that Natural fertilizer for $1 each at Lowes in the damaged bag section. I wont be using it anytime soon though, i picked up a bag of the Pro Care 4-3-0 on clearance for $7 since my soil tests still show low in nitrogen and low in phos but very high in Potassium. I started using the Milorganite this spring after having similar soil test results, what a difference the Milorganite made, the lawn never looked better. You really cannot compare the two, they are totally different formulations. Sta Green has so many different formulations of fertilizer. I also picked up a bag of the Sta green all natural 3-in-1 8-0-2 for $1 and put some of that down for the added minerals and iron is has. I dont buy any lawn care product anymore unless its on clearance, Lowes always has damaged bags of something to be buying, stock up when you see it and use it later on down the road, doesnt go bad if kept stored properly.
How often would you apply this product and if half your lawn is 6 week new sod 3rd mow and the other half is a hodgepodge of grasses and weeds (hey, it's green!)... what would you recommend? Also we have had great rains the last few weeks helping to keep everything green and growing.
The NPK looks good. A bag of Milo may have the same price now, but it covers half the square footage. I picked up bags in the spring for $9 each at Ace and couldn't pass it up.
One thing I've noticed is that Lowe's quietly changed the bags to 20 lbs for the same price.
I used Jonathan Greene Winter Survival last fall here in Chicagoland. I was really impressed with it. I think the Potassium really helped my lawn. I've never done a soil analysis, but I think my lawn really needed the K.
I'm thinking about using this fertilizer soon, especially now that we got the much needed rain yesterday. Actually, way too much at once.
What setting did you use for your hand spreader?
Hey neighbor! Naperville here!
Since you never had a soil test done, i can pretty much guarantee you are low in K (probably very low) it took many apps of SOP to get mine in the optimal range
my spreader was set on 1 and i just kept walking my lawn over and over until it was emptied
