THE PROCESS!!! Dude I am in love with the Process!! It's the best method I love tearing it down to build it up! So good bro great video that is a ton of old footage definitely a labor intensive video I'm so many ways!! Great job!
I've probably watched 25 "fix an ugly lawn" videos by now and this is the best one on all of TH-cam. I love the Techniques man keep up the good content
As a lawn nerd myself I've done all these techniques and know pretty much all about these techniques but you still got me hooked watching the whole video. Your energy and the way you made the video was awesome. Keep going :)
Oh man this is amazing! I dont have the equipment and skills right now. After watching this, Im gonna try the Poorman's process. Thanks for sharing this! ☝️
Poor man’s seed this year, because I will have a 2yr old and a newborn. I’m leaving the sunjoe to sit the bench. It will get its day once again my friend.
Yo Yardbrah, where the heck you been my whole Lawn Life. I dont follow many so called lawn guys. Only the LCN, Lawn Life and definitely now you. Looking forward to more videos Brah. 🤙🏾👍🏾
Oh you’ll get addicted once you see results! Poor man is one of my favorite my 2nd overseed of the season was poorman… the seed wasn’t poor though 😂😂😂👊🏾🤙🏾
I'm gonna do the poor man's overseed... Because I have major issues to deal with on my backyard and it's fairly big. Once I see the results I'm gonna work my way up to "The Process!!" possibly in the fall, definitely in next fall.
Don't miss a day of watering. I have germination after 10 dwys of rain and watering. Best lawn on the block. Didn't spend, or work too hard. Just do it.
So glad I renovated my lawn with 100% KBG.. don't have to worry about overseeding (most of the time) 🙂. I have KBG spreading in the sidewalk cracks down to the curb next to the road 🤣. And then it creeps into hard to grow areas of the lawn.. it's AMAZING!
Brah! No you got me itching to get outside, and it’s liquid sunshine today…..😢 I’m so ready for a sand cap, and some more Barenbrug Turf Star (RPR) 🤙🏻 keep on, keeping it Reel
I just got some dirt from my back yard to keep my soil the same and mix in some milorganite , first dethatched by hand mowed with my American reel push…Then punch holes with two prong foot aerator that sucked. Then tossed on my back yard dirt mix in the bad low spots. Then put my seed down followed by a little bit of fert. I normally don’t like to fertilize with much nitrogen early in seeding but I was feeling froggy. Last year I neglected my lawn the year before it was like a Fairway. This year I’m committing to having best on the block again. 😊
Yes my dude! Man just reading this put a big ol smile on my face! You’re gonna kill it this season! Make sure to take pics and video and send them on over once your lawn is ah-goo-ah-d! 😂😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾
Omg i love this video. This is exactly what i was looking for. I have weeds and bare spots and great green grass. I just want it all to look the same. Thanks for this video. Bought a house with a big yard. Alot of maintenance
I like to do an app of tenacity 3 weeks before the process. Tenacity really needs two apps to be effective as a post emergent. Really helps with my creeping bentgrass and poa

I’m gonna try “The Poorman’s” technique and I’m excited to see my results. Thank you for such a fun and great video! Also the gentlemen in the video was fun to watch too. Oops I just saw you’re the gentleman in the video. ❤😁
Thank you so much for tuning in!!! 😊 Yes all these variations work you should have a nice lawn in no time!!! Just make sure your soil temps are consistently above 50° 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥
I love the time and effort put into this video to help everyone. Cool season lawn here up in New England. Too late to do this? I do normally overseed in the fall but I've got some patchy spots here and there I'd like to fill and blend.
Thank you! Def not easy compiling 10tb of footage into a 14:20 video 😂😂😂🤙🏾 I believe with enough water you can seed anytime besides 100° weather and freezing temps 😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾👊🏾
I don’t but I just use the cheap Amazon one for like $40 this one works just as good as all the others 😊🤙🏾 amzn.to/3JmjefY thanks for tuning in my friend 😊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thank you so very much for this video. I need to overseed my Bermuda with an RTF fescue. Some of the techniques you are using I plan on using. Thank you so very much. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I live in Las Vegas which is a transition area although I do think it's usually quite warm. This year is unusual in that it's only 80° in the mid-june. Again thank you very much. ❤️
I guess I'm really going to have to use Bermuda. To be honest I do not mow my own lawn. I have a lawn person that comes in and basically only mow's and blows. I say I'm going to have to go to Bermuda because I jumped the gun. I bought myself a 40 lb bag of Barenbrug. RTF Fescue. That is overkill for what I own. My total loan is only about 750 ft². I was thinking I could just basically keep overseeding with this until it all came into tall fescue. Now I have a worthless 40 lb bag of the RTF. Lol have you ever stop by Vegas you can pick up this bag. I am going to have to figure out what type of Bermuda I want to put down now. Any suggestions? As you can tell I guess I add more pennies than sense. 😁
I have lots of dandelions and am wondering if I should spray those before starting the process or if the Tenacity applied during the process will take care of them? Thanks for this super informative and encouraging video!
Tenacity will def take care of them during the process! When I first started lawn care the first time I did the process I just mowed everything super low did the process including tenacity and I havnt seen a dandelion in 3 years… I see them on my neighbors lawn though 😂😂😂🤙🏾 thanks for tuning in! 😊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thank you brotha! You know I keep seeing that I might have to try it for this spring overseed... gotta do some research! Thanks for reminding me! 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
Great video. Your yard looked great prior to dethatching. I'm from Ohio too. What city are you in? I bought Sun Joe in 2022. Lots of work and I had shoulder issues, but i think I will do my front yard. Back yard is larger. I didn't Overseed last year. I decided to treat the weeds in rhe fall, so i couldn't overseed. I had shoulder surgery this past January 2023. I think I may invest in a lawn sweeper. I know I need for the back yard. Thanks
Dude, I have those 3 Things! I ve been planning this years over seed and in my head what I came up with and was planning on doing as it makes the most sense for my situation and my yard was exactly THE PROCESS! II am in the northeast and my front is fairly uneven with lots of bumps, so I was think I wanted to do the worst parts with soil as I also have a lot of roots that will need a deeper layer and then do a light sand also I know it will take a few overseedings but I’m willing to wait! Great info though! Been watching your vids for quite a while now, and I have to beg honest I haven’t subscribed but just did, you grew on me I guess!
Aye nice! You know as long as your here hanging out I’m happy 😊🤙🏾 gotta send me some update pics as your lawn progresses! Thanks for the support my friend! 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
Love THE PROCESS idea and plan on doing it this Fall. Brah, have a question . . . I’ve always heard that you ARE NOT supposed to use a pre-emergent when planting new seed! Never used Tenacity before and just want to make sure that I can do ALL of this work in one day, or am I supposed to use the Tenacity first and then wait for a certain time period before throwing down the seed. Your response is GREATLY appreciated. Keep make these videos. YOUR LAWN IS AMAZING!!!!!!!
@@YardBrah thank you so much for responding. I live in TN which is a transition zone. I currently have about 75% Bermuda in my front lawn and planning to kill it off in the Fall. My plan, right now, is to use glyphosate to spray and kill it out. Do you have any other suggestions for getting rid of it? Also, what type of pest loss spreader are using/planning to use. Was it the Landzie ??? I love the videos and appreciate your help with my renovation.
Great video! I have a sloped south facing front lawn with no shade. Before the 8-10 inches of snow the other day it was dry. The back though, is a mess due to two big oaks. The squirrels and the dropping of acorns its hard to truly keep level. I will be using your advice and will be re-leveling the front. Do you have advise on keeping an "amazing looking lawn" with oak trees? The acorn seeds drop is a mess. Help?
Thank you for tuning in! If you see that big blueish tree in front of my house it drops a world of acorns on the main lawn! Have you tried the Scott’s leaf sweeper? amzn.to/3M82pY3 Not only leaves… this thing picks up thatch from a dethatch as well as all those dang acorns 😂😂😂 you should give it a shot def a tool that is being used a ton right now in my lawn! Check out my last vid the lead sweeper is picking up all the debris from a verticut! th-cam.com/video/q2xzvWPhrj4/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the support! And go destroy those acorns 😂😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
Hey my man! Love the video, one of the best lawn care videos I’ve seen! Quick question, I hesitate to do the process because my lawn gets small bumps all over, even after leveling the lawn the bumps come back after some time. Any idea what would cause this? Again thanks for the amazing video, I want to try the process!!
great video I want to do the process but my lawn is only 4 months old. should I aerate and follow all the process for the overseeding process? also I have bare some spots where the water does not drain very well (hydrophobic soil) any way I can address that or make a video for it 😁 anyone input would appreciated.
Great video,I'm doing the poor man overseed..question, after I spread the grass seed by hand, what's the second blue stuff u put down with the spreader??
Great video I live in Kansas City and i wanna do the process method. I have a hill can i do this in this time in June? Or do i have to wait til fall or spring?
In my opinion if you water enough you can seed anytime except for freezing temps or 100°weather 😂 I would pre germinate your seed so once you put it down its just maintaining with water but water is key! Go for it 😊👊🏾🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾
Oh the process can def be done in the spring!!! Just make sure your soil temps are above 50° so the seed can germinate! To be safe consistent 55° soil temps 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥
So.. I'm planning on overseeding my backyard this year. I live in Massachusetts. Do I need to kill off the "grass" I currently have, or can I dethatch and aerate and still be successful? You see so many different things out there, just looking for a clear cut way.
It’s up to you if you want to completely start over kill it off but an overseed is cool if you don’t have too many problem at the moment in the lawn 😊🙏🏾🤙🏾👊🏾🔥
I believe with enough water you can seed anytime obviously if it’s 100° out of freezing then don’t do it… I overseeded mid summer last year and it came out amazing! 😊🔥🤙🏾🙏🏾👊🏾
Yes I will have a what to do after overseeding video this year thanks for reminding me! I change it to 1 time a day 10-15 min per zone usually early morning like 4am… in summer though I crank it up almost back to over seeding schedule just to beat the heat! 😊🔥🤙🏾🙏🏾
Yes adding top soil with give you added nutrients and is always a good idea for any lawn as long as you put down some tenacity to kill off any of the potential foreign grasses that might be hidden in the soil. For "The Process" It's always top soil or sand and it works everytime! 😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾
I’m not the warm season expert but from what I’ve learned is unless your are in a transition zone you cannot mix cool season with warm …. If your straight up I’m the south then I would overseed with Bahiiiiiiiiiiiiya again for sure 😂😂😂😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥 @lawncarenut has the scoop on Bahiiiiiiiya grass for sure 😂😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Can I do overseed now? Or is it too late in PNW? This my first home and the lawn was nice when we moved in September but I didn’t do anything, and after the December snow - it is brownish and light green. I tried to do it all - the watering, the mowing, the fertilizers, and it improves - but not like we had. I just don’t want it to look totally brown soon
What up, YardBrah, I overseeded my lawn. I have germination action going on. My existing grass is getting tall. What do I do in this situation? I don't have a reel mower. I just have an ego push mower.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you lay down a preemergent, how will the grass seed germinate? I thought a preemergent stopped germination of seeds, of course weed seeds, but does it know the difference?
@@s.s.4170 You can always use it as post emergent! After your 2nd mow you can spray tenacity.... warning though it will turn the grass white for at least a month it's the bleaching side effect of the herbicide, it's annoying to look at but you won't have any grassy weeds...if it's just weeds use t-zone 15 days after germination! 😊🤙🏾
First overseed ever was April 2020 then I started youtube October 2020 and its been a learning experience getting rid of weeds, getting rid of grassy weeds like poa annua, and just dialing down water to make sure the grass doesn't turn brown 😂 it's been a journey so far, but this season has been my best for sure... I am cutting at 1/2" and it's just as think as if I was cutting at 1" ... so crazy! 😊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 What was wrong last summer? grass went dormant?
Yeah it’s gonna go deeper I usually go 0 for verticut and lower for dethatch… but if I’m going low I’m also overseeding… level 0 is good for maintenance 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
Hey neighbor! Poa is controlled very well with the prograss ec! Not seeing anything popping up this spring check out my latest vids to see the lawn 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
Are you doing this all in one day? Also what machine is that at 12:55? I had my lawn up and running and it was so nice and lush and we had some humid and a ton of rain and starting to get a ton of brown and yellow. Hopefully throwing some fungus killers helps it =[
Yeah I only have 4000sqft total so i can knock it all out in a day for sure. The machine is brand new 7 blade California Trimmer with Briggs and strat engine and Cali trimmer smooth front roller 😊👊🏾🙏🏾🤙🏾
Not raking down to the dirt is what stops most people from getting the results they expected. They'll buy the best spreader, best seed, best fertilizer, install sprinklers... and then they will lay the seed on top of their dead lawn and just expect it to work...
No not necessarily… like if I didn’t have a TH-cam channel right now my lawn is looking amazing and I wouldn’t overseed … but since I do I’m gonna overseed 😂😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
Once you see it you can drop to two times a day for a week then go back to your regular schedule like every other day 4 in the morning … at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches per week I say 2 cause it’s summer… if you start seeing mushrooms in the lawn pull back the water a bit and dial it down 😊🤙🏾👊🏾🔥🙏🏾
THE PROCESS!!! Dude I am in love with the Process!! It's the best method I love tearing it down to build it up! So good bro great video that is a ton of old footage definitely a labor intensive video I'm so many ways!! Great job!

Hi, I saw you use the rolling hand aerator, where did you get it from? Edit: Thanks for the great and helpful videos. Greetings from Zurich
That is the rollaerator.com aerator my friend 😊🙏🏾🔥🤙🏾
Love THE PROCESS idea and plan on doing it this Fall. Brah, have a question . . . I’ve always heard that you ARE NOT supposed to use a pre-emergent when planting new seed! Never used Tenacity before and just want to make sure that I can do ALL of this work in one day, or am I supposed to use the Tenacity first and then wait for a certain time period before throwing down the seed.
Your response is GREATLY appreciated.
Keep make these videos. YOUR LAWN IS AMAZING!!!!!!!
Tenacity is def ok the put down the same time as seeding 😊thanks for tuning in!!! 😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Have you tried the Scott’s leaf sweeper? amzn.to/3M82pY3
Not only leaves… this thing picks up thatch from a dethatch as well as all those dang acorns 😂😂😂 you should give it a shot def a tool that is being used a ton right now in my lawn! Check out my last vid the lead sweeper is picking up all the debris from a verticut!
th-cam.com/video/q2xzvWPhrj4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the support!
I’m guessing a combination of worm castings and bird beaks digging for those worms … i have the same issue right now 🤦🏾♂️😂😂😂😊👊🏾🙏🏾🤙🏾
great video I want to do the process but my lawn is only 4 months old. should I aerate and follow all the process for the overseeding process? also I have bare some spots where the water does not drain very well (hydrophobic soil) any way I can address that or make a video for it 😁
anyone input would appreciated.
Honestly just the poor man’s overseed will do well if you’re turf is just establishing 😊👊🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾
Great video,I'm doing the poor man overseed..question, after I spread the grass seed by hand, what's the second blue stuff u put down with the spreader??
That was the seed! Scotts sun and shade is blue 😊👊🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾
@@YardBrah ohhhh...ok...got u...and thank you for your quick response 👍🏽
Great video I live in Kansas City and i wanna do the process method. I have a hill can i do this in this time in June? Or do i have to wait til fall or spring?
In my opinion if you water enough you can seed anytime except for freezing temps or 100°weather 😂 I would pre germinate your seed so once you put it down its just maintaining with water but water is key! Go for it 😊👊🏾🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾
Can the process be done in the spring (now) in the Northeast with great result or better to wait until Fall?
Great videos and insights. I have a failing sod problem. Was installed in Dec 22. Is there a way to send pics to you…need some advise?
Yeah for sure yardbrah@gmail.com 😊🤙🏾
Which goes down first, the soil or sand?? Love the videos!
Soil first then sandcap would be nice and level! 😊🤙🏾
@@YardBrah Awesome thanks man!🤙🏼
Where did u get that rolling aerator??
Do you think that the proper oversees method can still be done in late May?
I believe with enough water you can seed anytime obviously if it’s 100° out of freezing then don’t do it… I overseeded mid summer last year and it came out amazing! 😊🔥🤙🏾🙏🏾👊🏾
@@YardBrah good to hear!it’s only mid to high 80s here in Ohio.
@@YardBrah but we are In the midst of a little drought.
Love your channel, have a quick question. What seed do you recommend for cool climate zone? I read I should be using tall fescue.
Cool as in cool and shade? Cool and shade TTTF is great but If you have sunlight rye with kbg is the best hands down 😊👊🏾🔥🙏🏾🤙🏾
Do you change your watering schedule after the 19 days? If so what do you change it to?
Thank you ! Love your videos!.
Yes I will have a what to do after overseeding video this year thanks for reminding me! I change it to 1 time a day 10-15 min per zone usually early morning like 4am… in summer though I crank it up almost back to over seeding schedule just to beat the heat! 😊🔥🤙🏾🙏🏾
12:38 I'm dying 🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🤙🏾
I am assuming your people spoke to my people at 13:26 I will be looking for the check in the mail. 😂😂😂💚$$$
😂 I was wondering if you were gonna notice 😂😂😂 i'm literally laughing my ass off right now 😂🤙🏾🔥🔥🔥
@@YardBrah Haha hope your not driving lol
hey man, can I do the proper overseed but adding top soil? will it benefit it with or without it?
Yes adding top soil with give you added nutrients and is always a good idea for any lawn as long as you put down some tenacity to kill off any of the potential foreign grasses that might be hidden in the soil.
For "The Process" It's always top soil or sand and it works everytime! 😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾
If I have a bahia lawn, can I overseed with the Barenbrug? Or should I overseed with Bahia seed?
I’m not the warm season expert but from what I’ve learned is unless your are in a transition zone you cannot mix cool season with warm …. If your straight up I’m the south then I would overseed with Bahiiiiiiiiiiiiya again for sure 😂😂😂😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥 @lawncarenut has the scoop on Bahiiiiiiiya grass for sure 😂😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
im savin this vid.....great content
Aye thank you for the support I really appreciate you! 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾👊🏾
Def do the process now just make sure to get a water timer and water 3 times a day for 10-15 min at a time and you’ll see results 😊👊🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾
@@YardBrah thank you so much, you are so helpful.
What up, YardBrah, I overseeded my lawn. I have germination action going on. My existing grass is getting tall. What do I do in this situation? I don't have a reel mower. I just have an ego push mower.
If it's been 21 days go ahead and cut level 3 for the first cut no problem just one pass in and out 😊🤙🏾
Thanks for the response, I appreciate it! 🤙🏾
This is an awesome video and a costly one too (financially for me, haha).
Totally worth it when you annihilate the neighbors 😂😂😂🤙🏾
@@YardBrah I have no doubt about that! I'll do my best to do it right myself this year rather than paying someone $200 to do a lousy job...
What do you use for soil for the top dressing? Just dirt? Mushroom compost?
Lately I’ve been using just regular bagged soil from the big box and it’s working pretty decent it’s summer and it’s not drying up! 😊👊🏾🙏🏾🤙🏾
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you lay down a preemergent, how will the grass seed germinate? I thought a preemergent stopped germination of seeds, of course weed seeds, but does it know the difference?
You know the label says it’s safe to use it during seeding and as you can see it’s never been affected and has always germinated 😊🤙🏾
@@YardBrah Good to know. I over-seeded and wish I had used it. I wouldn't be dealing with a million little elm seedling coming up in the lawn.
Gonna try that poor mans version first...just closed on a home, hence I am now a poor man. lol
Oh your lawn is gonna be awesome after the poor man’s I just did poor man overseed for my second overseed of the season and it’s super bushy! 😂🤙🏾
Hi, great vídeo. Does the pre emergent act against the grass seed?
No safe to apply during seeding 😊🤙🏾👊🏾🙏🏾
I’m also in the PNW where do u get barenbrug seed? Or did you just order online?
Aye what’s up! You can try most Ace hardwares carry barenbrug but you can also use my Amazon links in the description I’ve listed a couple 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
What is the brand of the aerator you use in the video?
Rollaerator.com 😊🙏🏾👊🏾🤙🏾
how many years have you been building this beautiful lawn? im on summer 2 and I feel like last summer was a waste
I am cutting at 1/2" and it's just as think as if I was cutting at 1" ... so crazy! 😊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
What was wrong last summer? grass went dormant?
Brah you're having too much fun lol
😂😂😂 never too much fun in the lawn! Always a good time 😂😊🔥🙏🏾🤙🏾
I’m in NC and the soil is clay will these methods still work?
If it were me I would roto till the clay, add compost, then roto till again to mix the compost in… then roll it flat and start the process 😊🙏🏾🤙🏾🔥
How come I found this video so late. I am in Long Island and I going to over seed my lawn because some bare spot. Is it too late?
You should be fine pre germinate the seed so you give it a fighting chance for summer! 😊🙏🏾🤙🏾🔥
Is 5 a good setting for dethatching? On the sunjoe dethatcher
Yeah it’s gonna go deeper I usually go 0 for verticut and lower for dethatch… but if I’m going low I’m also overseeding… level 0 is good for maintenance 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
How hard do u rake? Isn’t there a chance of making bare spots if u move too much?
Just a light rake to get the seed down to touch soil you’re always gonna have some bare spots just add more seed 😊🙏🏾🔥👊🏾🤙🏾
North Bend, WA here… did you end up killing all the poa?
Yeah use azoxystrobin one month and propoconizole the next month I have never had disease in my lawn 😊👊🏾🙏🏾🤙🏾
@@YardBrah thanks i had a company come out just for that cause i wasnt sure but def can do that myself now thanks!
Process 1st week on September
Noice!!!! I’m gonna be 1st week of august ish… we will see! 😊🙏🏾🤙🏾👊🏾
How often are you to do the process?
If I didn’t have a TH-cam channel once a year just spring.. but I do the process at least 3 times a year 😂😂😂🤙🏾
Not raking down to the dirt is what stops most people from getting the results they expected.
They'll buy the best spreader, best seed, best fertilizer, install sprinklers... and then they will lay the seed on top of their dead lawn and just expect it to work...
Yes totally agree!!! Must have the seed to soil contact!! 😊🙏🏾🔥🤙🏾
When’s the best time to go through the process? Spring or fall?
Where's the AIRAOTOR??? Drop a link for them please!!!
Rollaerator.com 😂😂😂🙏🏾
Do you need to over seed every year tho
No not necessarily… like if I didn’t have a TH-cam channel right now my lawn is looking amazing and I wouldn’t overseed … but since I do I’m gonna overseed 😂😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
What kind of sand was that you used?
That was big box store mason sand and playground sand, this year I'm using silica sand 😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾
How often should I water once I see germination?
Once you see it you can drop to two times a day for a week then go back to your regular schedule like every other day 4 in the morning … at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches per week I say 2 cause it’s summer… if you start seeing mushrooms in the lawn pull back the water a bit and dial it down 😊🤙🏾👊🏾🔥🙏🏾
@YardBrah thank your brother. I appreciate it
@12:23 shoenice reference ;)
😂😂😂 I haven’t seen him I’ll check him out 😊👊🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾
It's crazy what Americans spend on lawncare.
That's the excuse I make(to my wife), every time I let our lawn grow into a lush, thick jungle...
😂😂😂 we do spend a ton 😂👊🏾😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥
