    Good morning from Seattle! Great video as always!
    My take: I really want to love Aeroplane Heaven's products. Visually, they are gorgeous inside and outside, and you can feel the love that goes in to making the virtual machine. As a WW2-era piston engine aficionado, it is pretty cool they always offer engine cowl removal to view the magic that makes the music. The flight model for the Spit Mk1 has definitely improved as well and does not have the dreadful early MSFS taildragger handling quirks.
    I do always feel though that something is missing in the immersion experience for AH aircraft. For example, on the Mk1 Spit, there is no engine cutout when pulling negative G. This is a small detail but important to the Mk1 Spit (which is my favorite Spit Mk being a lifelong student of the Battle of Britain) as it required tactics to overcome the shortfall until later solved. A2A got this detail right in their still-excellent and now 12-year old Spit Mk1. I also think that the sound set in the AH offerings are never quite complete. Missing the door, primer, and canopy sounds just take away points from what shows on the surface to be a phenomenal offering. I agree that the new soundest definitely gives the Spit a more authentic feel and is a nice improvement.
    I know for my UK friends the Spitfire is a national symbol of the nation's resolve and steadfast resistance to the Nazis during the dark early days of WW2 and the AH Spit Mk1 could be a truly outstanding product to reflect this pride. Until then, the Flying Iron Mk9 Spit offers a better fully-finished and polished product. The good news is that the FI Spit has done so through numerous updates.
    Now, the AH P-51 will hopefully get a flight model update (very needed as it is extremely uprated in performance) and the sounds on the P-51 really need help.
    I know I have written a book here but thanks all for letting me get on my soapbox... I really like AH offerings for aircraft that are dear to me and hopefully they can iron out the minor things and become an outstanding provider of vintage virtual aircraft.
    Cheers and thanks again for all your hard work making your videos. They are a really good tool for me to decide which A/C to buy in MSFS :-)

      Good morning Andy, apologies for the slow reply!
      I can totally appreciate where you're coming from and often feel very much the same. As you say, it's pretty clear that Aeroplane Heaven love the aircraft they recreate and I know they are very proud of their offerings; unfortunately that pride often seems to make them a little overly defensive towards criticism and a little bit blind to their shortcomings. I think all of us want these amazing pieces of history (and indeed often national symbols) to be recreated as faithfully as possible and as there are often a few loose ends with AH products, it's only natural that customers are going to want them tied up. I very much echo you own thoughts. The MK I is my favorite Spit and indeed one of my favorite aircraft, so I would love to see the rest of the AH version completed to the same standards as the beautiful external model.
      Yours truly might actually be to blame for the lack of negative g cutout haha. I did actually preview the MK I ahead of its release and cutout was sort of modelled. The problem was that it wasn't based on g loading, but rather aircraft attitude + it would often lead to the engine quitting entirely thereafter. I pointed it out to AH hoping they might address the issue, but it seems the modelling was done away with altogether. To be fair to them, perhaps it's difficult to model accurately in the sim currently.
      I too hope there is an update to the P-51, for the reasons you mention. In the mean time (if you weren't aware), there is actually an improved flight model available for it over on flightsim.to; there are also some improved cockpit textures and in theory you can swap out the sounds (a lot of people are using the FI Spit sounds or the Asobo Mustang sounds).
      The Flying Iron Spit is indeed a wonderful piece of work and they are one of my favored devs, given the amount of care and continued support they put into their products. I'm still keeping all of my fingers crossed that we will one day see the A2A Spitfire in the sim though (my favorite sim addon of all time)!
      Cheers Andy! It's always great to hear other peoples thoughts and opinions!

      Haha well, thank you very much, sir! I like to try and apply real-world techniques as best I can during my videos. I’m sure mistakes were made here and there but, for me, a lot of the enjoyment of simming, comes from trying to understand how a specific aircraft is actually flown.

      Yes, a lot of the issues that I pointed out during my initial review of the review of the aircraft are still there, it's rather disappointing to be frank. Flying Iron have drastically overhauled their Spit on a number of occasions, despite pretty much everyone being happy with it. Meanwhile the AH Spit still has missing sounds, a P8 compass that only works in one direction, a bugged altimeter scale etc. I'm glad that AH did take user feedback onboard and addressed the major sounds issues with the aircraft, but it rather feels like they were only looking to get the product up to a "good enough" standard, rather than genuinely ironing out all of its issues (of course the Spit deserves more!).
      Cheers and all the best : )

    Excellent review as always. I'm glad AH have given the Spitfire some more attention. I can't understand why some people are so ani-them, I think they do a great job, and the aircraft a quite affordable. I wish Asobo would model post-takeoff wheel spin, it makes me smile each time you say "touch the brakes", when the wheels are stationary, and have been since the second the aircraft left the ground!

      Is the wheel spin a sim issue? I had thought it was my replay tool causing that actually. I’ve only ever taken the time to look at the wheels when I’m playing back a recording, so I wasn’t aware that the sim had the same behaviour by default haha (I do wonder though, as I also hear some brake squeal when using the replay tool). Either way, old habits die hard : P

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks you very much, Douglas! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video; it was my absolute pleasure - this was one of those videos that I very much enjoyed making (how could one not enjoy a Spitfire in the British countryside?).
      If you’re looking at a particularly pricey setup, you might find some of my newer content more relevant. This video was made on an older, somewhat “mid tier” machine (I’ve subsequently upgraded), although it goes to prove that MSFS can still look great, even on somewhat lower settings.
      This will give you some idea of the sim on Ultra settings: th-cam.com/video/mHjVlWFF7LE/w-d-xo.html
      Either way, whilst MSFS still has its issues, it’s a pretty brilliant sim these days. X-Plane is still better (in most regards) for flight modelling and DCS does combat / flight modelling better also, but MSFS has come on a long way and no sim comes close in terms of graphical quality / atmosphere etc (MSFS 2024 is looking very promising also).
      I hope that helps a little. Thanks very much again for the kind words and best of luck with the whole endeavour! : )

    Another nice flight and video. North Wales is a great place to fly around, I often find myself up there. Nice to see AH improving their Spit but I'm gonna stick to my Mk IX as it still seems to be the superior product. I'm completely with you when it comes to more audio feedback especially with afterburners as you said. There's some sims/planes where you get hardly any noticeable feedback at all when you kick in the 'burners and I'd find myself accidentally straying into the AB zone without noticing. Some of the best airframe sounds I've experienced is probably Heatblur's F-14 in DCS, love the way that cockpit rattles and shakes and groans when you're manoeuvring.
    I've noticed that your voice is changing at the start and end of some of your past vids. Guessing you got a new mic and recorded the intros and outros on that. You almost sound like a differnet person lol. Anyway great vid as always, cheers.

      Thank you sir! A beautiful aircraft around a beautiful region.
      You'll get no disagreement from me regarding the MK IX, it's just annoying because the MK I is so darn beautiful haha.
      Ha, I "hate" the shaking and rattling of the Heatblur F-14, as it just reminds me that once again I've overcooked it, bled off too much speed and undoubtedly I'm about to find someone on my six in the next couple of seconds : P
      Spot on! I have indeed picked up a new mic. I'm still fiddling around with the settings at the moment, so that would account for the change of voice in this video, but indeed in some cases I will be re-recording intros / outros for older content (that has yet to be released), so it might sound a bit peculiar for a while haha. I hope it's generally an improvement, even if I do sounds somewhat different. It's amazing how much difference a mic can make and even how much one's voice changes from day to day (not to mention over time). I watched back one of my old videos the other day - I sounded like a nasally 14 yr old boy! XD
      Cheers!

    Just a minor nit pick related to the flight modelling, but I thought the take-off dynamics looked a bit suspect when viewed initially from within, but then confirmed via the external view. In the real world, the tail wheel would lift first as the increasing airflow over the flying surfaces gets going, and as the fuselage both naturally aligns with the airflow and as the pilot adds a little forward stick and rudder to counter the usual tail dragger issues. Then, once established in a more level and streamlined attitude, the main wheels would only later lift off, once flying speed had been reached. I think it's unrealistic, from a modelling perspective, that flying speed would be reached from such a tail down and nose up attitude, so that issue may need some more sim design work.
    Sadly, I have never flown a Spitfire, but I have flown tail draggers.

    • @Ayeshteni
      @Ayeshteni 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. Noticed that immediately myself.

    • @keithharrison1453
      @keithharrison1453 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Ayeshteni Indeed, same here, and I was waiting for the effect and it just didn't happen.
      Gyroscopic Precession is a very strong force, one that every new tail dragger pilot will soon get to know on their very first take-off!
      To explain myself to those unfamiliar with this, the plane's propeller is basically a big spinning gyroscope, where any force exerted upon it, will take effect 90 degrees along the direction of rotation past the point that the force is first applied.
      Thus, pitching the tail up and the nose down as a tail dragger gets to the stage of lifting the tail, has the effect of wanting to yaw the fuselage in the direction that the gyroscopic force ends up being applied.
      So, if the propeller rotates anti-clockwise as you look at it from the pilot's seat, then the forward pitching movement will apply a forward force to the top of the propeller disc, but due to Precession, the effect of that force is only applied 90 degrees around the plane of rotation so, in that case a forward force pushing to the left side of the rotating disc is the end result, which results in a strong yaw to the right.
      To complicate things further, if the yaw is not controlled, then the yaw itself is another force being applied to the gyroscope, in that case a forwards force to the left, which acts 90 degrees around, so applies to the bottom of the disc, wanting to pitch the nose back up and tail back down!
      Over-corrections when that all happens, just throws in further forces, so that is why you will often see a new pilot in a tail dragger yawing and pitching around until it eventually gets off the ground, or ends up in a hedge.
      So, in this example, smooth stick forward and smooth left rudder are needed as the tail first lifts, unless you want to go off on a gardening expedition into the grass and bushes and stuff on the right!
      In summary, be ready with the rudder as the tail lifts, or you will depart the runway to one side, or the other, depending upon the rotation of the propeller.
      Hands up all new tail dragging pilots who have done this. Now hands up all who said no, who were not being honest!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Keith,
      Thanks very much for the observation and indeed your excellent follow-up post!
      Most of what you saw during the takeoff was my own doing actually. I find many taildraggers in the sim still behave sub-optimally, with a number (including the Aeroplane Heaven Spitfire - though it is far from the worst offender) displaying strange ground handling behaviours. One of the best ways I’ve found to mitigate these sorts of effects in the sim, is to keep the tail down on the runway during the takeoff. Generally not realistic of course, but it makes the aircraft much more stable and controllable (there are certain addons where the plane will violently depart out to the left / right and be unrecoverable thereafter). So it does indeed look a bit odd, a Spitfire taking off in such a fashion, but it’s the best way I’ve found of doing things until tailwheel flight modelling on certain addons is improved.
      I hope that clarifies things a little. Cheers and all the best! : )

      Hi Vainsoleint,
      The Flying Iron Spitfire is definitely the higher quality product of the two overall. It generally looks better, flies and sounds better and it has more systems depth, basic failures etc. Flying Iron have also put out a number of comprehensive updates over the course of the products lifespan (despite everyone already being happy with the product they had). The AH Spit isn't bad; the MK I is beautiful and I would say that the external model perhaps bests the MK IX, but generally it just isn't up to the same standards and it still has quite a number of issues etc.

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I doubt it’s anything wrong on your end Sleight, I would imagine the sounds would either work or they wouldn’t. I think what you’re describing, is what I was alluding to when I mentioned that “it sounds like I’m hearing the engine through a wall”. The engine doesn’t seem to have much presence, probably due to the lack of bass that you mention. I still think the sounds are an improvement overall, but not drastically so.

    I have so enjoyed watching your videos since I discovered your channel earlier today. I've been flying in XPlane11 for the past 2 years although I have been so impressed the MSFS2020. As for the scenery in this video is this what it looks like out of the box or did you have to purchase this scenery separately? Many thanks once again.

      Hello Ian. Apologies for the slow reply, I'm just catching up on comments now.
      Thanks very much for the kind words, I'm really glad you're enjoying the content! Caernarfon airport was a piece of payware scenery, but otherwise everything you saw here was entirely default. MSFS can be pretty incredible where the scenery is concerned, although some areas look better than others (with this flight being towards the better end of the spectrum).
      I hope that clarifies things. I very much enjoy both X-Plane and MSFS, but for this sort of flying, Microsoft's flight simulator is hard to beat ; )

      Thanks very much Rob, glad you enjoyed it!
      Yes, its a step in the right direction, but the Spit still has a number of issues (some of which would be simple to fix) and I'm wondering if AH are going to address them at all at this point.
      I use the "High End" preset in the sim. I slightly bump up the render distance of the autogen and I have the caching set to "Ultra". I also have motion blur and AI traffic turned off, just to save a few fps. For videos like this, I generally try and choose favourable weather themes and times of the day; lighting makes the biggest difference in terms of how MSFS looks I find (clear skies at midday, the sim often doesn't look that great).
      I hope that helps a little? All the best : )

    I wonder which one is better to purchase? Aeroplane's spitfire or flying iron's spitfire

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FlyingIron’s Spit is quite a bit better overall Piloto. I love the MK I as an aircraft (it’s my favourite MK of Spitfire), but the MK IX in MSFS is so much more polished, has better sounds, systems modelling, texturing internally etc. FlyingIron’s support of their product has also been incredible - multiple huge updates that have really taken their Spit from strength to strength (even though people were very happy with the product on release).
      I hope that helps a little? All the best! : )

      Thanks very much for the kind words I.T Mann - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
      I hope that helps a little. I can assure it's impartial advice, as I have a big soft spot for the MK I in reality haha.

      Hi Captain Bones. Thanks very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed it!
      At the time of recording, my graphics settings were broadly as such:
      - “High End” preset
      - Pre-Cache = Ultra
      - Terrain and Object visibility sliders set at 125% (sorry, I forget the actual names of them)
      - Motion Blur = Off
      - Glass Cockpit Refresh = Medium
      - AI Traffic = Off
      - VSync = On / 60fps
      That gives a nice balance between graphical fidelity and performance. I only run at 1080p, hence the decent FPS / smooth performance. The things I’ve turned off / down are known to be famerate hogs. It’s important to note, I also spend a lot of time tweaking the weather / lighting in my videos, which accounts for much of the graphical fidelity you see (as that can make a huge different to how the sim looks overall).
      I hope that helps a little! All the best : )

      The MK I is my favourite Spit variant (in the real world) without a doubt Peter, as I’m sure is the case for many. It’s a shame the AH version doesn’t quite have the same level of polish as the Flying Iron MK IX. I’m really hoping we’ll see the A2A MK I one of these days; I don’t know if you’ve ever had the pleasure of trying it, but I would go as far as to say it is my favourite sim addon of all time! : )
      A nice little step in the right direction for the AH MK I though, let’s hope it continues (though I fear this may now be “it”).

    I know X-Plane 12 will probably have the edge in terms of pure flight modeling and whatnot, but I'm sorry, this kind of eye candy goes a LONG way to helping me as a non-pilot look past it. No shame in admitting I'm the casual MSFS was aiming at I suppose, as long as they keep working at it and improving it. I'll never get to see 99% of these places IRL, after all, so this is a good way to get close.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I’m afraid that’s all far too pragmatic John. I thought we had all agreed long ago, that you aren’t actually allowed to have any fun whilst flight simming!! : P
      No, you’re absolutely right of course. It doesn’t look like MSFS is going to be beat in the graphical department any time soon and the sim continues to move (slowly) in the right direction. Personally I can take the graphical hit with X-Plane, because I do enjoy how it flies, but I’m finding less and less reasons to fire up the sim these days. I’m still very much looking forward to seeing what X-Plane 12 has to offer, but it’s already pretty clear from the previews, that it won’t be *this*.
      MSFS is unique, in that as you allude to, it is the only sim in which one can actually explore the world and have a genuine adventure.
      As always, all the best! : )

    I can't tell you how much pleasure I get from flying the Spit around the British countryside. Do you have a favourite between the two?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simming doesn't get much better in than that does it Abberjam! ; )
      Overall, I have to say that I largely prefer FlyingIron's efforts. The MK IX is a much more polished and immersive product and continues to go from strength to strength. I think Aeroplane Heaven's MK I is a beauty visual effort and the MK I is my favourite MK of Spitfire undoubtedly, but the addon still has a number of issues (including still the sounds) and I would have liked to see a bit more fidelity in the product etc.
      Anyway, that was a long-winded way of saying that I like both addons, but the MK IX generally has the MK I beat haha.

    I have her too and ok little improvements but not to make it flyable. No sound opening side door and canopy is already a no go not even wanting to start the engine and I did also for testing purposes but still no base or real rumble spitting flames so terrible. Only Flying Iron make the spit awesome. I have all ah planes and they all suffer same bad engines noises that are not loud enough and lack base. Great video .

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Sven, glad you enjoyed the video : )
      Generally speaking, I would have to agree with you. I still enjoy the MK I personally and there have been some improvements without a doubt, but there are still a lot of areas of the AH Spit that are lacking. It feels like the aircraft is being tinkered with, but there doesn’t seem to be any impetus to tie up all the loose ends and really elevate the product. FlyingIron on the other hand, have radically overhauled their product on a number of occasions; they clearly want the MK IX to be the best it can be and it’s all the more impressive, since everybody has been happy with their Spit, almost since it’s release.
      Cheers and all the best!
