🎵 TOOL Forty Six & 2 Reaction 🌒 This NEEDS to be Talked About

  • Thanks for checking out our Tool reaction. Forty Six and 2 is right up our alley. This songs wades into the waters of different dimensions. The shadow isn't in the third dimension. You'll never be able to see it or touch it, but it's just as real as what you see with your eyes. It might actually be even more real than what we think of as 3D.

Firstly, you two are excessively attractive....truly. Brad, you are right there. Jung posited that the shadow is our darkness. All of our depravity, fears and insecurities reside in our shadow. The title 46 & 2 is a reference to our chromosomal evolution. Currently, we are at 44 & 2 (the 2 being our gender determinant at birth; xx or xy.) Jung (and Maynard) assert that the next evolution of humankind will be 46 & 2. Those two extra chromosomes will ascend us...I'll simplify it...to be one with nature. The premise? That we will rise above material desires, race, borders...all the pettiness that constricts, or devolves, our species. We will be one with nature. However, the catch is we have to ascend together; We have to ascend as a collective. Therefore, it's a pipe dream because humankind is...broken. (I am being diplomatic.) Oh, yeah...in order to ascend, to evolve, Jung says we have to come to terms with our shadow. Acknowledge our flaws, our darkness. Capitulate that we are imperfect...self-awareness. That's what Maynard is singing about. He is wholly imperfect, as we all are.

Why do you think African Americans know all these rock bands? Do you not realize most African American families listen to RnB and Funk music? You sir are just ignorant by saying reactors are faking it. Not everyone in the world was brought up the way you were. One dude even put up a picture of his GOSPEL parents saying that he wasn't even brought up around rap (he was african american) because people are so ignorant saying shit like "he is black how does he not know hip-hop? this dude is faking" The fake reactors are more likely the newer ones coming out as soon as they found out reaction channels are getting views. The older channels (who now know a lot about rock and metal) were the realest ones because they didn't get the views people are getting today, they just did it because they wanted to record their journey.

My head was fine and I was speaking clearly, answering every question and reciting phone numbers. So it was a huge surprise to me when they put an IV in my arm and launched me into space with a large dose of ketamine without any warning. I thought I had died, truly. It was the only thing that made sense to me just then. It felt as if time had stopped and that one sliver of a moment had opened up into a whole new universe with me alone in the center of it. Trippiest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. Without artwork like this, I would never come even close to describing what I saw. I can say the DMT art is pretty close.

I’ve had ketamine in IV clinical setting as well and never had tried any type of street drug in my life. As soon as the ketamine hit it was like I was disconnected from my entire body. No pain. I closed my eyes and it was like I was floating through space with all these odd visuals and memories of life. The disassociative part of it freaked me out so I just kept my eyes closed. maybe it was because I did it on IV but I can’t imagine doing it at a music festival or something like some people do. Maybe if I had a recliner in the middle of the crowd and no one was allowed to talk to me haha

It appears we’ve got two new members in the Tool Army. lol. Great reaction guys. When listening to a Tool song try to be thinking how each instrument is providing and developing the composition as a whole.. for example the bass line is basically what’s holding everything together and else is moving all around it changing and growing much like in the lyrics of the song itself. As you get to the outro there’s a meter change then Danny brings in this beast of a drum section sounding like someone beating down walls to get out, and finishes with just one time pounding instead he’s hammering on one drum Tom which would loosely be your mind freeing itself from itself. Anyway.welcome ✌️

As a long-time Tool fan who has gone down this particular song's rabbit hole MANY times in my life, allow me to share my two cents on the song title and (Tool's singer) Maynard James Keenan's lyrics. Bare with me here - I'll try my best to only give the necessary background info and contexts along with the full explanation, hopefully without going on any side tangents. The numbers 46 & 2 refer to Drunvalo Melchizedek's chromosomal evolution theory of three stages of modern human development ranging from ancient tribes with 42+2 chromosomes who are harmoniously balanced with nature but lack individual self-realization, to the vast majority of modern humans with 44+2 chromosomes who have lost their inherent connection to nature and each other but are capable of limited self-realization (a pretty shitty deal, existentially), and ultimately to the high-evolutionary mutants with 46+2 chromosomes who are capable of reconnecting to the universe while also having full awareness of thier unique self and the ability to perceive all true reality while actualizing their full potential as individuals (like a superhero or demigod - maybe like Buddha or Jesus, or perhaps L. Ron Hubbard? Who knows). An interesting concept at first glance, but just plain false after a brief review of biology, genetics, or evolution will prove. However, even though It's easy to debunk, it still serves a major purpose in the context of the song's lyrics, for there is more to the song's meaning than New-Age pseudoscience. There's also Jungian psychology, which you're obviously familiar with. So I'll explain how the title is just a clever shorthand to be used as an effective metaphor for real personal growth, Self-actualization, and even physical or physiological improvement that can be interpreted as a metaphor for ontogenetic evolution. By the way, if you combine Jung's integration of the shadow for individual psychological and spiritual growth with the (since disproven) Melchizedek theory of physiologically and phylogenetically climbing from a current state of "disharmonious" 44+2 chromosomes to a higher state of evolution (46+2, and thus self-awareness and self-actualization with higher degrees of spiritual and dimensional perception), you get the premise of the lyrics - something I probably should have pointed out off the bat. Anyway, the most interesting aspect, I think, of Maynard's lyrics comes more from Jung than Melchizedek in that you cannot fully grow as a person in general or reach your maximum potential without acknowledging and *working* to fully integrate The Shadow from the unconscious into concioussness, and rather than trying to destroy it (an impossible task) or repress it (as The Persona and society would demand you to do), instead incorporate it into your Ego as an equal aspect of who you are, while also doing the same with the Collective Unconscious, thus fully realizing yourself and the world around you (self-realization), and now *working* to successfully become and exist as someone attuned to The Self (Self-actualization). Using Melchizedek's false theory, this complex and rigorous psychological and spiritual path of growth and enlightenment can be easily summarized by the pseudo-ontogenetic metaphor of *"46+2"* as a sort of shorthand for a theoretical formula for progression [42+2, 44+2, 46+2]. Much like how in music theory and composition, chord and harmonic progressions and concepts can be summarized by numerical representations, such as the 12-bar blues as consisting of I, IV, and V chords is expressed as I-I-I-I, IV-IV-I-I, V-IV-I-I (or in Arabic numerals, would be expressed as 1-1-1-1, 4-4-1-1, 5-4-1-1). In this sense, *46 & 2* is just metaphorical code (shorthand, really) for the higher Self as theorized by Jung, or even an ideal state of being through a genuinely transformative physical or physiological process of growth (somewhat ontogenetic, but not really) and is thus capable of retaining meaning and significance even after Melchizedek's pseudo-phylogenetic theory is disregarded. The hidden key to remember is that such a leap of concioussness, or indeed, any great leap in one's perception and abilities and Self-actualization, requires an enormous amount of commitment and constant work and mindfullness. It's difficult and unpredictable and draining and incredibly complex and full of unknown risks and sacrifices, without any known timeline or length of duration or guarantee of success, which requires a significant and unwavering supply of sheer faith as well. So to summarize that process so cleanly and easily understood as a pair of numbers is quite brilliant on Maynard's part, even if it was derivative of Melchizedek, who I'm almost positive Maynard never actually took seriously when it came to his theories on chromosomes and evolution. Now, Sacred Geometry, the subject of most of Melchizedek's work, on the other hand, is a different story for a different Tool album...

The theory is our current stage of 44&2 is Disharmonic, compared to the Unity Conscious 42&2. The 46&2 stage is supposed to be the next level of Human Evolution. It all has to do with Chromosomes, we currently have 22 plus the Sex Gene from each parent, equalling 44&2. I don’t really buy it, but that’s the Theory. Great Song though.

My feeling is-with any new music-you should really just listen to the song all the way through, without looking at a screen with the lyrics, and just take it in, absorb it, enjoy it. It's supposed to be enjoyed as a whole, not broken up into little pieces. It seems that there are times in this video where Lex is getting into the music and enjoying it but Brad keeps stopping it to try and understand the lyrics, which is something you can't possibly do with this song the first time through. Just take it in the first time, then go back and analyze the lyrics on another listen. You really aren't feeling the music when you stop it every 20 seconds.
This is an incredible song, one of my favorite Tool songs. I love seeing when it really starts to kick in, Lex gets a big smile on her face and starts moving her head, enjoying the music, but Brad has to stop it and just has this contemplative look on his face the whole time. I feel like she would be a fun person to hang out with and he would be a downer. Yes, Tool lyrics are very deep, but the music is meant to be absorbed as a whole, just take it in man.
All that being said...It's always good to see people enjoying Tool for the first time. I don't think enough people really appreciate their music enough. Keep searching.

I have a feeling the pause for copywrite reasons too, but just a guess

Don’t be a dick. Why come here onto their own channel and call one of them a downer?

Also...I knew what the song was about before watching your reaction video, but I kind of prefer your brief supposition that it was just a reference to two days of solitary confinement. "Oh. Here we go, I can feel it's time to tear myself down and look at the inner workings. Gonna need to clear a couple days for this..."
