That's the best explanation i've ever seen/heard, bloody great way to understand the basics, every credit for putting it so simply and easy for anybody to understand. Honest that was brilliant. THANKS.

I built a large Ninco track set and used universal laptop power supply's for power. Most are adjustable from 12-20 volts up to 90 watts. Find them on e bay for about $15. I used one supply for each lane. Used three power inputs for each lane. That was many years ago and I think they still work great. Guess I better go clean the track and see if they still work. Happy Motoring..[

I would highly recommend that any "serious" slot car hobbyist or racer learn a few basic things about electricity.
You don't have to become an electrical engineer but getting a few basics under your belt will go a long way in helping you get the most out of your track, your cars, and your wallet and it will help you do it _safely._
    .
    Read about the following:
    Electrical potential or pressure (Volts)
    Current (Amperes)
    Resistance (Ohms)
    Conductors
    Insulators
    Ohm's Law
    Watt's Law
    Storage Cells (batteries)
    Amp Hours (batteries)
    Series circuits and parallel circuits.

I bet if you put a meter on the outputs of them all you would probably find variations between them all, also there is only one supply there that will give you a PURE dc (direct current) and that is the motorcycle battery, all the mains powered transformers have a rectifier inside them to reduce the voltage and change ac (alternating current) to dc ,mostly as cheaply as possible resulting in a less than perfect ‘smoothness ‘ for the motor to use.

This is why I have a separate transformer for EACH lane....then again....I ONLY have two lanes.......Side note: Go to a trainshow or your local hobby shop...they have big old used transformers readily available at good prices...just make sure you get a DC transformer!

Where can we find what cars work with what voltage?

I guarantee that little train transformer is no where near 6 amps. They come free in cheap train sets and are more like 1/2 amp.

I'm looking at some old train transformers and most of them list output with volts and VA or Volt Amps. From what I can find to find the output amps you divide the VA by the volts. So I'm finding transformers showing 16 volt output and 18 VAC which would only give me just over 1 amp. Are you aware of transformers with higher amp output?

I would prefer the slot car racing sets with the transformer instead of the batteries.

As an electrician I recommend you read electricity 1-7 there are large dangerous gaps in your information. Thank u

30V 10A Adjustable DC Power Supply Precision Variable Dual Digital Lab Test
      110V
Item number on ebay for this transformer is 391321591608, and for the money best I have
found and is adjustable. Hope this helps, Caveman

Cheaper option, laptop power supply of the desired voltage. Wire a DC jack into your terminal track, or just cut and splice the factory connector, couldn't be simpler and costs nothing if you know where to shop.

Any recomends for H.O.? some of the High performance cars can suck up north of 6 amps... a Tomy AFX tripower pack can put out 20 volts, but limmited to only 1 amp... I cant seem to find an economically viable solution...

@@patrickdebelak3669 I ran an HO set in the basement when I wa sa kid on 1 old car battery. I never did it but you could try 2 car batteries wired in series - it would give you 24 Volts total and way greater that 6 AMPS. Motorcycle batteries might work as an alternative
