My question is my sofa is burgundy velvet and I wanted to change it to a damask the carvings are very elaborate with an eagle stretched out across the whole sofa. It is in mahogany. Should I choose something plain again or patterned. Thanks again

I'd suggest getting a few samples of upholstery that catches your eye - plain and patterned - and lay them out on the sofa.
