Yo!!! I recently started playing Valheim after owning it for quite awhile and never playing it. Started it up a couple weeks ago, found some dope mods and have been hooked ever since. I’ve only managed to just barely kill Bonemass as far as game progression goes. But I’m totally hooked on Valheim. Part of me wants to NOT watch content pertaining to biomes I haven’t been to yet, but another part of me wants to be as prepared as possible. That said thank you for these clips, super helpful and you’re not annoying like other creators are, it’s a relief to find this channel… make more!
A little addition from me to the ejection strategy. Basalt bombs are not always good, because they are initially located too high above the lava level, and the player may simply not reach the floating piece of ore.But tamed аsksvin can walk on lava, and you don't need to be afraid of overweight inventory (if you collect too much flametal ore), and their back is low enough to lift even the most uncomfortable pieces of lava. The only drawback is that asksvin can be distracted by the enemy and throw the player into the lava, so it is important to monitor the environment.
It is the least efficient. The explosive payloads are expensive to make. It is better to start mining from the bottom and place the temp platforms on the lava to continue mining as the pillar sinks
Sooooooo. Don't climb the tower. What you do is mine the bottom layer, place a basalt platform and while the lavaiethan submerges you continue mining the nodes as they come down to you, placing platforms around as you need. You can get a min of 90 metal per pillar.
I think it's not worth going through the trouble of setting up more than one catapult, I managed to get 56 using a single one. If you aim near the base it can get more of the ore as the tower is sinking.
Lol I love how excited you got at the catapults! I haven't done much of Ashlands yet as I was about to but then a friend wanted to join me so I am waiting for them! I'm usually always solo so feels good to have a friend come along.
Didn't tested it yet. But the giant weapons in the mistlands showed me "too hard" after using the Trollstav. But its by far the best tactic for stone/grausten/marble farming
I just used my building power to surround the tower with levitating structures. Only works if you have at least a little bit of ground (not lava) near it. Trick to getting structures to not fall apart, first don't let anything touch the lava, 2nd use iron grates to reinforce the stone/marble/grausten parts horizontally, 3rd if you disabled the fire spreading mechanic (I did because it broke the cooking station) you can just use plain old wood roofs to expand the structure as much as you need to, it can take a little fire damage from the fire rain, but it'll be fine as wood is ez to come by. When it comes to mining it just work your way up from bottom to top and don't forget to use Stam pots, Lingering Stam Potion and the Queen buff.
Haven’t seen anyone mentioning it, but the flametal towers come back after they sink, and you can keep mining them. I put up a portal nearby, and by the time i returned after teleporting the ore to my base, the flametal tower was back.
the catapults strategy is great and super fair not gonna lie, I have this strategy very simple but super cheaty XD Climb the top of the pillar start mining when the pillar start to sink log out log back in the pillar is still there and you can do this over and over and get around 100 metal ores spoiler they just updated and raised the time before the pillar sink
Has anyone encountered the bug with mining flametal where your character is sliding around the surface of the spire as if you're on ice but your character looks like they're in free-fall and you can't run or jump? This keeps happening to me and it makes it literally not possible to mine without sliding off and dying
Yes. It's been a bug since the public test branch testing, but Irongate has not been able to fix it yet. They are planning to remove the sinking feature of the pillars in the next patch.
Yay! So glad to hear your channel is growing - I know this struggle. This was a great Valheim video. Easy sub from me. Great content and commentary. Keep it up! Grow grow grow!
I wonder if you could get one of the new skeleton trolls to mine the ore for you! I was experimenting the other day, getting copper, tin and fine wood pre-Eikthyr using a troll. It would be hard to kite the troll into the flametal, but maybe with enough platforms!
Just a suggestion.. maybe the Blob explosion, apparently the greatest explosion you can experience so far in the game, can mine all nodes in one hit.. you have not to stay near there when it happens, but probably just baiting enemies from the pillar and wait for the explosion to start mining can give you all the ores in one shot in the early ashlands. I haven't tried yet, I'm still looking for the first pillar!
I've had a bug when mining flametal recently Me and my friend both died when the tower started to sink, and I saw it sinking as I was dying However, when we returned to that place, the tower was standing tall, with the ore we've mined still lying around. So we've effectively doubled the timer unintentionally. My gravestone was actually inside the tower, because the tower was mostly submerged when I died Not a viable strategy, obviously. But it was quite funny when it happened
the catapults are cool and a good way to get the metal but from my experience, when you rely too much on the rising platforms and spend too much time on them then you end up getting knocked off by the fireballs that the lava spits out. I actually found a method to mine the entire tower but it may be a glitch. I accidentally figured this out when I was on a tower and a valkyrie aggroed to me. If you start mining and you get to the point where the tower begins to sink, you can do this at any point because I have tested this many times now and it's worked every time. Once the tower begins to sink, if you log out and log back in the tower will be reset as if it hasn't been struck yet. the ore you mined off of it will be gone and the ore you collected remains in your inventory. You can make a video of it too. PS: the valkyrie was still there when I logged back in and killed me lol
I was wondering if the battering ram would be even better if you could get one close enough to the tower. That might be able to completely destroy the tower.
The catapult thing is hilarious but not better than starting at the top with a maxed blackmetal pickaxe. Also, you can logout (or die on purpose) once the leviathan or whatever it is starts to sink, and when you log back in it will be reset with the remaining ore 9/10 times. Jump to land before logging out just to be safe. I let it sink like 50% and that seems to ensure it respawns with the remaining ore. Anyway, even if you don't cheese it, starting from the top is the best strategy and gets more than catapults... but at the cost of hilarity.
me and a friend built a grausten platform araound a node, held up by iron beams connected to regular land. then he was driving araound with the ram and i was running with the build hammer to repair any piece of flooring that got damaged, worked verry well as long as the node is close to land. i have yet to try and summon a troll right on one of the nodes, did it on a copper node in black forest and it worked wonders, 3 summons and the whole copper node was gone, used a mod to check that i got all the little bits underground, 100% and i belive with a better aimed shot i can 1-shot the next one. im guessing it should work on flametal, so summon 2 trolls on a node and mount up on an asksvin and ride out to loot, probably not going to get as much of the ore as the catapults or ram, but but by the time you have done one of those catapult/ram strats the troll summoner is on his 3rd node. its defenatly on my to-do list now.
I was able to oneshot the flametal veins with a lvl 4 blackmetal pickaxe, decent pickaxe skill (80ish), and queen power. Was able to collect like 32-34ish per tower but only tried it on 2.
I forgot about the queen’s power. Never bothered with it because I don’t use magic but now that we have to mine from timers floating on lava… looks like they had that one planned for a while. I like your vids. Simple and to the point. I couldn’t resist until official release so I’m going in PTB tonight

I haven't just yet. A lot of the pillars were in the middle of the lava pools and it might be tricky to get a battering ram out there without it being destroyed by the lava. There were some close to the edge, but I imagine the battering ram would only reach the bottom ore nodes.
Try lining them them up 'closer to farther' away from the tower. One behind the next. That way there's a better chance of hitting all levels of the tower.
I just beat the Queen.I gotta tell you.I thought the misleads was a pain in the ass .This sounds horrible. I get wanting to make things continually hard. But when it gets to the point it just being d*** annoying wth
After some mining, here is how I do it: Start a the top with top level blackmetal pickaxe. It’s usually 3 hits then you jump and glide around to the next high node and you keep going down this way. By the time it starts sinking, you’ve broke most of it then you just collect it after it sinks. But as soon as I unlock the catapult, I’m blowing these up, no more lava swim for that guy. Feather cape + lingering stamina + fire resistance mead and bonemass power on stand by. 2 stamina food and 1 health and with the new timer you can get most of the mineral. I was able to get full set of armor + shield/sword and level them up with three nodes with normal ressources. Still learning the basalt bombs, they don’t spawn all the times (on xbox)
Yeah! I think you can get away with just a couple catapults. Five was way too much and I couldn't even really keep up with it. Maybe if you use Flametal to make things like a Blackforge extension, you can break it down for the mats, farm the Flametal Spire, then break down the catapult and rebuild the crafting station you originally broke down. Lots of ideas!
