I'm happy to have played the original MG extensively back in 1987, seeing the franchise being resurrected on next-gen console years later has been one of the best moments in my life. I might even buy an old PS3 at some point just to be able to try MGS4, since it's one of the few installments of the series that I missed out on. So good in so many aspects!
Hah funny this got recommended, I purchased the collection last month and are playing through them for the first time. I did all the VR missions first to practice, only to get dropped in the main game and realize none of it mattered. Everyone literally is just a pawn on a chess board. And yeah definitely, it's very anti war. Absolutely love it
Man, *every* Metal Gear (Solid) Kojima took part in developing is a masterpiece in its own right. The OG Metal Gear practically created *and* popularized the stealth action genre long before not just the concept for Splinter Cell was born, but before Ubisoft even came to existence, while also doing a fairly good job of environmental storytelling, though at the time the possibilities in that regard were quite limited. Then MGS1 did it again, effectively introducing the world (or rather that part of the world that didn't even know MSX existed or what it was at all) at large to Solid Snake - the man, the myth, the legend. It also seamlessly blended serious espionage and conspiracy theories with Kojima's unique sense of humor, though it took GMan's observation for me to finally realize that moniker Solid Snake is in fact a dick joke - it just didn't register in my mind that someone would do something like that. And every subsequent installment in the series did something extremely cool, like introduce Raiden, or finally introduce the OG military legend Big Boss, and MGSV, however rushed (I refuse to believe it was unfinished, it looks absolutely self-contained and finalized to me, not to mention there's not too many bugs or glitches, and Fox Engine is a phenomenal masterpiece on its own, like my laptop's integrated GPU, albeit it's an AMD one, handles all the reflections and lens flares no problem, while giving me honest 60 fps at worst), and making the game open world paid off quite well if you ask me, though you don't have to play it like an open world game, and the inclusion of the possibility of playing MGSV more like a traditional episode/level based game was also an ingenious move. Every. Single. Game in the series is a masterpiece, and it pains me to know that there most likely will not ever be another original MGS game anymore. It doesn't matter if Kojima himself made the game - after all, he's more of a supervisor figure with a high-level perspective, but his oversight is crucial. The game doesn't have to have Solid Snake, Big Boss or any established character at all imo, it just needs to be well made and have some top-secret globe spanning conspiracy and mind-bending plot twists, with a touch of childish dick joke humor, and it would do well. Come on, dude made a *literal* WALKING SIMULATOR and it was hella fun and people loved it. Give the man a little time to cook and he'll bake you a tray of absolute deliciousness for you to lick fingers for the next decade.
You're absolutely right, I agree with everything you just said. It is a shame that we may never see another new Metal Gear, but I don't think I need one. I of course want the masterful gameplay and story, but when it really comes down to it, Kojima finished his story. Based on your comment, you've probably played them all, but spoilers ahead, just in case. Metal Gear is the birth of Solid Snake, and MG2, MGS 1, and MGS2 develop his story while also introducing Raiden. MGS3 tells us how all of the future events were set in motion. I consider Portable Ops the beginning of Big Boss becoming a legend and a leader. Peace Walker shows Big Boss grappling with his past actions and coming to grips with them, while also sowing the seeds for Metal Gear. MGSV leads right into Metal Gear, ending the saga of Big Boss and leading us right back to Solid Snake's story, but with a much better understanding. Finally, MGS4 is the conclusion to both Big Boss' and Solid Snake's stories, as well as giving Raiden's story closure. Metal Gear Rising serves to give us a glimpse of the future, as well. I do want more Kojima-grade Metal Gear more than anything, but I'm very grateful that he got to conclude his story, what I consider his magnum opus, and a true masterpiece.
There's a several gaming franchises that I don't think I'll ever sell my physical copies of : Resident Evil, Ridge Racer, Gran Turismo and basically anything Kojima touches including Snatcher, Policenauts, etc. Kojima, much like Sony has a habit of being way, WAY, ahead of their time. I highly recommend the film Nemesis - stylistically, it has a lot of Kojima DNA in it. I was playing thought MGS with my partner and showed her the Psycho Mantis effects (reading the memory card, faking input issues, etc).....that stuff is STILL outstandingly effective and very rarely done well.
Ever since I played OG metal gear on the PS3 collection I’ve been addicted to it and I have fully mastered it…takes me on average 1:30:00 to beat it and never get any alerts or game overs.
What I find fun is: MGS1 repeats some of the events from MG2 in many aspects, and then MGS2 actually has a major plot point of how similar the events are to Shadow Moses. So in a way, MGS1 is kind of a remake of Metal Gear 2. And then MGS2 is a remake of Metal Gear Solid....
Metal Gear Solid especially redoes a lot of the specific elements and story beats of Metal Gear 2, which was a massive expansion on the (more simple) template of Metal Gear 1
I never beat any of the Gameboy or NES MGS. I would buy them in a collection KONAMI with a rewind and save feature. PEOPLE SHOULD WANT TO PLAY THESE…ITS NOSTALGIC AND LAYS AN UNDERSTANDING OF GAMING PROGRESS. RESIDENT EVIL ON GAMEBOY WAS REALLY GOOD BC THEY HAD TO GET CREATIVE WITH THE MECHANICS. The frustration was having to start over at death. Add a rewind or save function and boom…. BACK TO THE FUTURE 🏎️ ⚡️
@Solaar_Punk would you start the Harry Potter movies on the Deathly Hallows? Jumping into a series at the end pretty much guarantees you won't understand the story.
No cóz... Aha no i zawsze ta większość będzie ci przyklaskiwać, cóż za prestiż! Pozdro.
kojima did not go to uni, he went to university-san
Very glad to see someone else take the same pipeline I did. MGSV made me go back and play from 1 and I don’t regret a second
when we needed him he returned, rejoice I say
another jonny classic
Kept us waiting, hun?
My gear is solid metal too
man..imagine if they did a remake of metal gear and metal gear 2 on modern systems
an idea better than remaking mgs3 without kojima

Yeah you should play 4

One of the hostages tells you that Jennifer will open the door. You only need to be on the same screen as the door and call her.

One of the greatest!, solid snake better than big boss and story kinda died after 4, love rising tho ❤
I'm going to check out MG2 on my Retroid Pocket 5 when it arrives. 👍

14:30 AAAAAHHHHH 😭
Crazy how such a professional video and youtuber has this low of subs
This is a really good video.
Clicked cause orange cat profile pic, subbed cause good metal gear content and cause you've convinced me to give mg1 a shot
Excellent video. Looking forward to the remainder of the series. Are you also covering the Game Boy Color game?
When you can't even say, my name
4:05 I think it has been said that Metal Gear Solid has a lot of elements taken from Metal gear 1 so you're not wrong
Metal Gear Solid especially redoes a lot of the specific elements and story beats of Metal Gear 2, which was a massive expansion on the (more simple) template of Metal Gear 1
"Metal Gear?"
- Solid Snake
they played us like damn foot fetishists!
😅
Might I suggest UnMetal, it’s perfectly captures the spirit of the classic Metal Gear games and then some.
Mgs is godly, and I’m no lifing Delta the second it drops
Yeah I don't remember any clues that you had to call Jennifer to open that door
2:50 mgs 1 2 3 were group projects. Thats why they are so good. Since mgs4 he had full control and every game since then has flaws.
I never beat any of the Gameboy or NES MGS.

BACK TO THE FUTURE 🏎️ ⚡️
I wouldn't start a series on the fifth numbered installment. Glad you enjoyed the games though 😊
Not everyone wants to play a 20 year old game
@Solaar_Punk would you start the Harry Potter movies on the Deathly Hallows? Jumping into a series at the end pretty much guarantees you won't understand the story.
I agree
