I sang this song to my elderly 86 year old dad who also has dementia and he remembered the song and was so happy. He smiled and laughed and totally made my day!
My Daddy toured in Europe with her back in the 90s. She gave us an Australian Shepherd puppy for my brother and sister's birthdays because he had to be away from us. This song will always remind me of my daddy. 🖤
I miss the 1970s beyond description. In 75, after Nam ended, it just became such a wonderful time. People of all ages were SO damn Happy ,compared to now. Life still made sense. Everything was great till around 1987 or so….then the cursed 90s came!
I was in 'the Nam' from 1966 - 1969. Returning home and attending university was like a dream come true. Despite earning a PhD in mathematical physics and embarking on a teaching career, I still felt alienated and had trouble feeling anything at all. Those carefree, fun years from the late 70s up through late 80s allowed me to somehow insulate myself from memories, thoughts and feelings that I was better off suppressing. Unfortunately, if one doesn't deal with the past, it will eventually deal with you. The days of attending concerts, smoking weed and having access to a variety of soothing pharmaceuticals somehow led to using heroin to completely numb myself by 1991. I had no idea that I was suffering from severe PTSD. Guilt, shame, fear and horrible memories made my life a nightmare. Fortunately, a special woman who understood PTSD and had lost her brother, a Nam vet, to suicide confronted me with what I had become. The road back to myself involved facing the truth of the losses, survivor's guilt, terror and loss of innocence. It's a long story, but I DID get better. Methadone was an important step, as well as sharing the hell that we experienced in Nam with those who had been there, too. Now, I see the sun rising, the moon, the sheer beauty of nature and had courage to love and believe in others. There IS good in the world. I served with 173rd Airborne Brigade/74th Infantry Detachment/LRRP RVN '66 - '69 Barney
I was born in 71 and remember this song in '74 for sure, as a little little girl I loved it and remember thinking Lynn was so beautiful! My mom always had albums and I remember this one as well as Tom T Hall, and many JLL!

I love and hate this song all at the same time. Back in 1971, we were driving to San Diego for dad to ship out for his fourth tour in Vietnam. (He was a career Marine officer, infantry.) We were singing it--dad had one of the first 8-tracks and he played this song over and over. It was still playing when we pulled up to the pier. He turned to me and said, "Son, I love you." Those were the last words my father ever spoke to me. He was killed shortly after he arrived in country. Every time I hear this song, I think about dad and the last time I saw him.
Kim Barnes Thank you, Ms. Barnes. There is not a day that passes in which I don't think of him. He was so kind and gentle towards his family, and yet, he was devilishly ferocious on the battlefield. But what he did the day he died does not surprise me: he called artillery fire and airstrikes on his own position to prevent his unit from being overrun. He gave his life for those whom he loved: his Marines. Thank you for your sentiment.
Kim Barnes Oh, Cheers!! You're from the UK! I myself have been a Marine infantry officer for 31 years. Followed in dad's footsteps. I'm in Afghanistan right now. And let me tell you...the UK has some of the finest soldiers in the world. On more than one occasion UK combat forces have pulled out fat outa the fire. I love you guys.

'Rose Garden', fitted in nicely with the mellow vibes of early-70s pop radio. A very pleasant piece of country-pop and an optimistic anthem which is graced by Lynn Anderson's fine, sweet vocals and a lush, inviting production.
Back when this song came out, I was a 14 year old paperboy in Orange County CA. I had my transistor AM radio hanging from my handlebars playing music from KHJ or KRLA radio stations. This song transports me right back to those great times in my childhood.
I was nine or ten when this came out and my parents watched a half dozen country music TV programs that were on every weekend in the Sacramento, California area. Lynn was from there and my dad always made sure we knew that when she'd come on. Being a kid I didn't really appreciate what fun times those were with my family. Makes me smile now.
Every time I hear this song it immediately takes me back to riding in the back of the station wagon in central California with my younger brother and this would come on the radio.... good memories.
This was the Marine Corp's recruit song in the 1970s that had the title on a recruitment poster ”I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden". The poster was in black and white showing a 6'-4" Marine recruit looking straight ahead and sheepishly while this 5'-8" Marine DI is looking up at him and chewing him out. That poster is priceless. If anyone should run across it, save it !
I have the poster. It reads "We Don't Promise You a Rose Garden" .... with the drill sergeant looking down at the recruit, chewing him out, as you said. They used that poster for the entire '70s and into the early '80s.
I remember how I wanted to be just like Lynn Anderson when I was little! She was the epitome of beauty and femininity! Love that dress! She was "a little less country" and this song was a crossover to pop music
You're right, she's the one who took country music to a much wider audience because she appealed to mainstream music listeners. Her music was more country-pop than say, Loretta Lynn or Tammy Wynette who appealed mostly to only country music fans. That's why Lynn Anderson was on variety and talk shows you wouldn't normally see country stars back in the '70s.
Beautifully haunting to see and hear and feel this footage and song, shes a living breathing animated singing doll, there in reality only like yesterday, when every single genre of modern music was so much better than they are now.

country music's first female superstar (early 70s). She took country music to places it had never been. As Dolly said, Lynn Anderson appealed to city folks, as well as country.
I love the musical accompaniment to this song - very well done with great crescendos mixed in and just a general hip flavor to it. Of course, Lynn did a fantastic job with this song also.
I was singing karaoke in Farmington NM (of all places) maybe 2010, and when I handed the mic back to the KJ after singing my song he said "I always ask people to use their real names when they sign up to sing so I am proud to announce that the next singer is Lynn Anderson singing Rose Garden"! She was in town doing a fund raiser for a Navajo hospital project or something but she looked great and sounded awesome. Still was a little fire cracker! I was honored to meet her and I have her autograph on a song request slip!

I grew up with this song. No tv show brought me here! January 2020, & just reminding myself of some cold hard truth's... 1) Life is hard. 2) Life is NOT "fair". Smile anyway. It will drive your hater's crazy!!!
What a coincidence !!! mine also loved this song and she asked to be played in her funeral , an ovarian cancer took her life three years ago, and since then I weep her in silence and life lost all meaning to me, allow me to share with you this feeling, so long Terry, be strong, roby
Lynn Anderson, born in my hometown of Grand Forks, North Dakota (USA). Her 1970 album 'Rose Garden' was the biggest selling album by a female country singer in 27 years (1970-1997)
Today is the first day I came to know about the artist and little history about this song on TH-cam. I came across this song 20 years before while buying used cassette on the street. It didn't have it's cover album but only it's cassette. Since then I love this song. So simple, absolutely melodic and beautiful lyrics. You don't get such type of music nowadays. It's timeless classic. Just like before I'm hooked to this song again. It reminds me and take to me to the younger time when life was so innocent and fun. Thanks youtube and everyone who leaved their stories and comment, it was fun to read.
i remember this from when i was 4 and woke up one morning, my dad had this playing on the radio before he went to work, one of my earliest memories. im 53 now.
I was two years old when this song was released yet every time I hear it I know every word. It's one of those songs which bring back floods of memories.
My momma and I were at our favorite thrift store and this came on. We were singing and had the rest of the people in line and the cashiers joined in. It really made my day 💜
RIP Lynn Anderson. I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden Along with the sunshine There's gotta be a little rain some time When you take you gotta give so live and let live Or let go oh-whoa-whoa-whoa I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden I could promise you things like big diamond rings But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover So you better think it over Well if sweet-talkin' you could make it come true I would give you the world right now on a silver platter But what would it matter So smile for a while and let's be jolly Love shouldn't be so melancholy Come along and share the good times while we can I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden Along with the sunshine There's gotta be a little rain some time I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon But if that's what it takes to hold you I'd just as soon let you go But there's one thing I want you to know You better look before you leap, still waters run deep And there won't always be someone there to pull you out And you know what I'm talkin' about So smile for a while and let's be jolly Love shouldn't be so melancholy Come along and share the good times while we can I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden Along with the sunshine There's gotta be a little rain some time Songwriters: JOE SOUTH

We would sing & drive 3 hours to the beach house ! I think this song is buried in my brain or should I say burnt into it lol . RIP mom ...
This song was so much more than just a 'number one' hit. It was a once-in-a-lifetime hit for any artist - if they're lucky and all the stars align. I'd say on the level as winning the lottery. It went #1 in 16 countries worldwide, unheard of in 1971.
Summer of 1970. I was dancing in a club this song and I said "Alwais remenber how well you feel with this music" and since then, I feel the same, every time I hear it. Ricardo
When I ask my friends if they know (or knew) anyone famous, my answer is always Lynn Anderson. Primarily because I sat right next to her at American River College in Sacramento, California around 1965. It was Professor Kohler's Psychology 101 class. Lynn was one of the nicest, sweetest people you would ever want to meet. Her fame came several years later. It was a crushing blow when she passed away in 2015. However, we still have her music.
One of the most beautiful songs ever. I used to play it in the car when my marriage collapsed... helped me get through some tough years. Thanks to whoever uploaded this great video.
Gone too soon. I remember as a kid hearing this song on a nice spring sunny day home in NJ. I'm 65 and when, (very rarely played) I hear this song I sing along. Rest well Lynn
She was the first concert I ever went to. I was nine years old. My brother and I were told we were going to the rodeo. Being city slickers we didn't know what to expect. The out of nowhere she was there. Total class, a real lady. I prefer my old rock and roll for the most part, but always have room for the classic country oldies as well. The cowboys came after...oh yay!!!

Groovy! I loved it back in 1971 and back in 2024
back in 2024.....
Makes me smile now.
yeah, my parents were really into country growing up. I never cared that much, but damn, coming back to this one feels just wonderful.
Yeah and Sacto isn't exactly GA. I grew up in Los Angeles and this was on the radio along with the Beatles it wasn't country.
Oleander Pink Excuse me, but this song is Country. The Beatles suck. This is actually good.
Meade Skelton you're an idiot
Every time I hear this song it immediately takes me back to riding in the back of the station wagon in central California with my younger brother and this would come on the radio.... good memories.
Me and my mom use to sing this when I was a little girl ❤️ fly high lynn ..thank you for your awesome music 😭🙏
All I think about is hummingbirds, honeybees and beautiful butterflies. As I listen to Lynn Anderson and her 🌹 garden. So romantic!
Missing my mom and dad listening to this!!! Such great memories!!
Doreen Travis
I miss mine too. My mum loved songs like this. Take care.
Doreen Travis me too
Doreen Travis I'm very sorry to hear that about your Mom very touching sounds like
Pteciosa cancion. Jardin de Rosas recuerdo Ellen
Absolutely angelic. Love this song 💜
Great song, great voice, arrangement and orchestration absolutely first rate. An iconic song from that era.
Lynn Anderson amazing singer, sadly missed, love this song...
I'm seeing some incredible dance moves in the crowd at 1.44 !!
Beautifully haunting to see and hear and feel this footage and song, shes a living breathing animated singing doll, there in reality only like yesterday, when every single genre of modern music was so much better than they are now.
in the next 10 thousand years nothing is going to be better than the 60, 70, 80's music.
Oh yes it will, because those of us who lived good lives and excepted the gospel will be in the Celestial Kingdom of Heaven.
You are soooo right
I also have a major love for the 50s but than again I am 63 and believe that our music evolved from the t0s!
50s
Humberto Trejo you got that right

Born in 1970
country music's first female superstar (early 70s). She took country music to places it had never been. As Dolly said, Lynn Anderson appealed to city folks, as well as country.
I love the musical accompaniment to this song - very well done with great crescendos mixed in and just a general hip flavor to it. Of course, Lynn did a fantastic job with this song also.
LYNN ANDERSON --, jestem pod urokiem bardzo dobrej muzyki , a VIDEO dodaje splendoru. Aż mnie ciarki przechodzą. DZIEKUJE !!!.
That's a cool story. Lucky guy. :-)
Grady, that is great! In the back of my mind,I wish a famous singer would somehow drop in on one of our karaokes. I sing 3 a week now. Before I go,listen to Keely Smith. Grady,God bless you and your family and ROLL TIDE!!!!!! Richard from Alabama
Fantastic. A real country singer with talent.
David M I was the luckiest person walked into bar @ Allman Brothers were playing. Someone said a lot of bands do that. Only country singer I saw was Shania Twain at a county fair

There is no tune that says it better.God bless Lynn Anderson
The right lyrics, the right tine, the right singer and at the right time! Classic and beautiful- both the song and Miss Lynn Anderson.
My grandmother used to play this every Saturday when she was washing dishes and cleaning around the house. Now in my 30s, I’m so grateful to have this song and this memory.

Possibly the greatest country song ever recorded!
certainly one of the biggest selling
The only country song I like
Ruben yeah it's up there
@@kathens7755 that's just sad .There are so many good Country songs besides this. In fact, this is rather mediocre by Country standards.

Love this song! Only Lynn Anderson can sing it so well & her voice was so soothing!
I grew up with this song. No tv show brought me here! January 2020, & just reminding myself of some cold hard truth's...
1) Life is hard.
2) Life is NOT "fair".
Smile anyway.
It will drive your hater's crazy!!!
One of the greatest hits. Never get tired of this
True AMERICAN country music with class. Fabulous!

Terry johnstone stay strong and just listen and remember the good times
Terry johnstone I was just thinking about that. Having it played at my funeral, that I wanted to write that in my will. I am sorry for your loss. 😞
Terry johnstone O
Terry johnstone You are all a bunch of weirdos...Drama queen Alert
What a coincidence !!! mine also loved this song and she asked to be played in her funeral , an ovarian cancer took her life three years ago, and since then I weep her in silence and life lost all meaning to me, allow me to share with you this feeling, so long Terry, be strong, roby
My Mum sang this to me when I was young and still sang it beautifuly in her 80s xx Love you Mum xxx
Lynn Anderson, born in my hometown of Grand Forks, North Dakota (USA). Her 1970 album 'Rose Garden' was the biggest selling album by a female country singer in 27 years (1970-1997)
The best Countrysong ever from the beautyful Lynn Anderson. And her Hair is a dream❤❤❤
One of my favourite songs of all time xx
Una verdadera joya musical, jardín de rosas interpretada con esa maravillosa voz de lyn anderson
RIP Lynn we all miss you.🌹🌹❤🦋🌈 From a proud Canadian. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
i remember this from when i was 4 and woke up one morning, my dad had this playing on the radio before he went to work, one of my earliest memories. im 53 now.
I was two years old when this song was released yet every time I hear it I know every word. It's one of those songs which bring back floods of memories.
My momma and I were at our favorite thrift store and this came on. We were singing and had the rest of the people in line and the cashiers joined in. It really made my day 💜
EVERYBODY knows this iconic song.
Only Lynn Anderson could pull this off, in that dress.. This great Joe South song made her a star... Great video!
RIP Lynn Anderson.
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time
When you take you gotta give so live and let live
Or let go oh-whoa-whoa-whoa
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
I could promise you things like big diamond rings
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover
So you better think it over
Well if sweet-talkin' you could make it come true
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter
But what would it matter
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
But if that's what it takes to hold you
I'd just as soon let you go
But there's one thing I want you to know
You better look before you leap, still waters run deep
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out
And you know what I'm talkin' about
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time
Songwriters: JOE SOUTH
Did realize she died :(
I can remember my mother playing this loud in her new mark V & driving to the beach . It was a great time ! Beach home right on the water & a new mark v Lincoln .
Ricardo
My aunt used to say that nothing in life is as bad or as good as you think. Rain and sunshine are the balance in life.
Nothing is permanent on this earth
Who ever told your aunt that was lieing
That be true
Chad Gilmore it's spelled "lying"
Stephanie Carpenter Big deal..Somebody liked the comment..What’s your problem
I was 7 when this came out. Takes me way back. Gorgeous lady with a beautiful voice. RIP Lynne
Mnie dobra muzyka nigdy się nie znudzi , nawet 1000 razy. DZIEKUJE !!!.
I sympathise
Been there - done that - got the t-shirt !

I beg your pardon. This song will destroy any of the junk recorded today that tries to pass itself off as music.
Sang this to my baby, she's turning 27 so I got the song in mind ❤
I used to play this for the folks at the nursing home, & they loved it.
I worry about them. Wishing I could go back tomorrow.
still listening to rose garden in april 2020!
Me too! Watching all my roses blooming in May!🤩⚘❤
I am responsible for viewing this over a million times !
Lynn died today. RIP Lady. You are one of the last of the classic country music singers.
big girls
austin teutsch awh shucks:)
RIP Lynn. Your music will live on and you will be remembered.
Voice of an Angel ... Wonderful Share
Not a big country fan, but there are some old gems like this one. Words to live by and that's no bs!!
PURE CLASS that you don't see anymore.
She was beautiful sweet and classy.
