      well yeah the new shadow catcher could have been used for this tutorial it could have saved render time, but the fork showing through the cup needed this method.

    Thank you for all the tutorials you have made, I recently got a bad injury and I'm forced to work at home. I ran into one of your videos and I remembered how much I used to love working in 3D when I was a teenager. You have re-ignited my passion for working with 3D again And I am learning from scratch. I used Maya way back in early 2000's. Thank you so much, subbed!

    A year ago I started learning Blender and you were my first to go channel. Since then I've improved my Blender skills massively thanks to other TH-camrs and I even paid for some pro tutorials. Nice to see you explaining more compared to you first videos (e.g. the reasoning behind things)! You should start something like a Patreon page so I could donate a bit to you as well since you've taught me so much for free! Then again, not actually having a Patreon / commercial webpage makes you a hero! Keep up the terrific work!

    As always, this was a great tutorial! The subject was interesting, useful, and looks great, and I really appreciate that you continue to explain how to do things, such as deleting planes, or opening the properties menu. Even someone brand new to Blender can jump in and follow along. And I also like that you a lot of different options, great for learning new things and learning to navigate Blender. Thank you!

    You really are a pleasure to watch and your tutorials are so straight forward I learned how to do so much with Blender in very little time. This is my favorite way to learn, watching and following along. I'm always excited when you make these basic tutorials because most tutorials done on TH-cam are on complex objects. This format allows the student to understand the tools, the location in the UI and the order of the process without overcomplicating steps. All of your prep work (knowing exact data to input prior to making these videos) saves us precious time and keeps what is most important in focus. If there were an award for Most Loved Instructor by Obsessive Compulsive Subscribers, you would be the clear winner. All I can say is please continue to produce these great videos. I would love to see a video using PBR textures and the new principle shader. Something that makes use of metallic, roughness, normals, glossy on an image texture. That would be a great one to watch. Thanks!

  • @lawrencedoliveiro9104

    2:28 What you are actually matching is the field of view. This is a function of both the focal length and the sensor size. If the camera’s sensor size is not Blender’s default of 32mm, then you will need to adjust accordingly.
    This is why I prefer working directly in field of view angle. Less messing around, and more directly related to what you are seeing.

  • @TheWzzzp
    @TheWzzzp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Awesome tutorial, but pay attention to another important detail not mentioned in this video if you want to do this yourself. DO NOT pick images with reflective objects within. This is because your added objects will not be reflected.
    Also, don't make your objects that you will be adding too reflective because the the reflections will not be correct, as you can see if you look at the red glass cup, you can see the reflection of the repeating image texture out of the camera's view below.
    As well as when looking at the original cup and added blue cup you can see that the reflection of the light source is different, where the light was shining through a window in the original image and in the final render a single sun lamp was used and can be seen as a blob of light on the blue cup.

    • @LocalSlaveHolder
      @LocalSlaveHolder 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BattlePants well, you can make reflection catcher for every reflective object in the scene, and capture an HDRI map of the environment that you working with, that would solve the problem. But no one will ever do this.

    I've been looking for this kind of opportunity for a long time. That's really great how to do that. I've known Blender for a year through you. First, I did all your tutorials from Gimp. Then all your tutorials with Blender. You always explain it very precisely with sizes etc. This makes it very easy for beginners. Even if you don't speak English. Sory for my bad English. I always wonder where you get the ideas from. And how much time you always have to make such a good tutorial. I am already looking forward to your next tutorial. Halloween? Or Christmas?
    When my score is ready, I can show you.
    Thank you again, many, many thanks.

  • @HagenvonEitzen
    @HagenvonEitzen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent! When I saw the final image, I was all "Ah, he cleverly inserted that glass cup somehow between the two real cups" - and then the other cup turned out to be fake as well! But I noticed that you determined the orientation of the floor plane by trial and error / rotating the cup until it somehow looks good. Wouldn't it be better (precision-wise) to use the two orthogonal bands of perspective lines of the wood pieces of the photo floor to deduce this (i.e., transform a plane until its perspective lines math these)?

    Shadow catcher also does not work with glass transparencies either. Also you can't use the background image for the glass refractions. The projected view method is the only one working once you use transparent materials.
    One hint: after activating the background image in camera view I first align the world grid with the background. Makes it easier to place, move or even animate elements and allows to find the lens if unknown

    Hi- I was looking at how the reflection of the glass cup showed nicely on the surface. How do you get that. I hope this doesn't come off as nit picky, but is there a way to shape the light? If you look at the reflection in on the top of the real cup, you can see a window is the light source (or at least a light source). but the blender cups don't have the same shaped highlight. not sure if it's the same topic, but breaking up the light on the actual cups as if the light is distorted by dirt or smudges? I haven't watched all your tutorials so i apologize if you have already gone over something like this.

    • @schubertuk
      @schubertuk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there is. You can use HRDi images that have enough colour range to represent emitting lights. In the case you give, you would need an HDRi of a kitchen with a kitchen window that has light streaming through. You can (with the right equipment) take your own HRDi images - but there are plenty of HDRi web-sites out there offering free & commercial images for just such purposes.
