Gym Leader Ed did a video where he took one of those "Top 10 Best and Worst Pokémon Clones" lists and rated each game on the list on how similar it actually was to Pokémon. Surprising no one, it turns out the list was full of crap. The only thing most of the games had in common with Pokémon was having some kind of creature companion, and in many of them that wasn't even the core mechanic of the game. The list even included Dragon Quest Monsters, which predates Pokemon by several years, and ZOIDS, which is based on a toy line from the mid-1980s and has _literally nothing_ in common with Pokémon at all.

The slowpoke tails always canonically grew back. Kurt says as much in the Johto games. It's kind of implied they're like certain species of salamander/lizards where they can detach it if something they don't want to gets ahold of them, which makes sense since they fish with their tails. Wouldn't want something actually dangerous dragging the slowpoke into the water with them. The problem with Team Rocket is that they were chopping them in an unnatural way (which on its own could cause a lot of issues)and presumably they would have continued the second the tails grew back forcing the Slowpoke to go without regular food for much longer.
On top of that, the salamander/lizards, absolutely do not just grow them back without issue, its unnecesary stress and on top of that does very much have limits
@@lolitazombie I've noticed a bunch of folks sharing their thoughts on these kinds of games, so I reckon it'd be awesome to introduce a fresh tag for Monster Taming. This way, we can include games like Palworld, Nexomon, Coromon, and more. And hey, let's reserve the "creature collecting" tag for proper creature collectathons such as fishing sims and bug collecting games!
Palworld is if ARK, Pokemon and slightly RUST were mixed up, ARK - violence, survival elements, Pokemon - cute characters and catching, RUST - base raids and building, same vibe really.
I have a base with 15 black marketeers and five item merchants. They live in a big arena filled with little straw beds and they haven't seen sunlight since arriving
I saw somebody comment on another PalWorld video (I think it was a Gym Leader Ed video) that said something along the lines of "PalWorld isn't really 'Pokemon with guns', it's more accurate to say it's 'ARK with Pokemon'." 7:15 - Just a little correction here, but the Shell Slime first appeared in Dragon Quest 3, which was released in 1988, and the Drakee first appeared in the original Dragon Quest, which was released in 1986.
@@LPcrazy_88dident they just come out with ANOTHER anime tho? Heck i watched Ghost Game a while back and thought that was pretty good. Heck they even had a remake of the first series. The price for power is constent dedication
I haven't played Palworld, but I have played Yo-Kai Watch, so I can say with honesty that while both of them have a monster catching theme, that's where their similarities end. The lore and gameplay between the universes could not be more different.
I do play palworld, I feel it is a different niche than pokemon. Any story it has you have to go out of your way to find even. It has base building stuff in it and I have mostly focused on that when playing. It feels, gameplay wise more similar to maybe fornight, but only from the feeling of base building and moving around, and by fornight I mean the original iteration of it, not the battle royal where you are fighting other people. I feel like the target audience of pokemon vs. palworld is different as well. I have bought every pokemon since the original red and blue, so I have played quite a bit of pokemon, and it is really just a different feel to it. I could not care less if there are similarities in design of the creatures in the game, companies will sort that kinda stuff out and file lawsuits if they want to, I don't see the need for fans to be up in arms about it.
As a fan of Monster Tamer games I’m begging people to broaden their horizons, there’s so much more to the subgenre then just Pokémon or Palworld, theres rpgs, there’s rogue likes, there’s Metroidvanias, all with monster buddies. There’s a whole ecosystem of them

@@adela6715 my favourites at the moment are Cassette Beasts and Monster Sacantuary, Coromon is good if you want something closer to pokemon style, SMT five or Dragon Quest monsters 3 are good ones if you want to see how the grandparents of the genre do things.
It deserves it. That game is horrible to play and I'm amazed it scared Pokemon. The second game literally repeats the 1st game's story. Tutorials included
@@weebcraft6829 Yo-Kai Watch has its flaws, but it amazes me that your criticisms of it to show that it’s worse than pokemon are that “The second game repeats the 1st game’s story. Tutorials included” because like, IS THAT NOT WHAT POKEMON HAS BEEN DOING FOR NINE WHOLE GAMES?????? You literally just criticized Yo-Kai Watch for the very thing Pokemon is explicitly well known for doing. At least the third and fourth Yo-Kai Watch games had the guts to change both the story and overhaul the battle system. Like I said to begin with, Yo-Kai Watch has its flaws, I’ve got a lot of criticisms of it myself. But your criticisms just REEK of someone looking for any little reason to hate the series. And just to clarify two things here. No, the second game did not recycle the story of the first. Its gameplay was incredibly similar, true. But its story was literally a time travel plot where Nate meets his younger grandpa. Its story is by no means great, and personally I wasn’t super intrigued by it. But it wasn’t recycled. And you claiming it was recycled really feels like you either didn’t play the game at all, only played the beginning, have forgotten how the game went, or are simply making things up. Secondly, Pokemon was most definitely never “scared” of Yo-Kai Watch. Pokemon doesn’t even really have any reason to be scared of Palworld, besides maybe plagiarism. It’s the highest grossing franchise in the entire world. I dislike how you frame it as Pokemon having no reason to be scared of Yo-Kai Watch because you believe the series to be bad. Pokemon has no reason to be scared of Yo-Kai Watch-or any other monster catching game-not because of quality, but because of the mere fact that Pokemon is Pokemon. It wouldn’t matter if there were a hundred far better monster catching games than Pokemon, it wouldn’t lose them much profit. The idea that Pokemon was ever scared of Yo-Kai Watch was likely made up by people who had no idea how anything works. You’re “amazed it scared Pokemon”? That’s because it didn’t.
@@weebcraft6829 ??? the second game is pretty different like by a mile and the only thing it has in common with the first game, as far as i can remember, is a recap of the first game in the first twenty minutes to get players caught up of how we're here while the gameplay not changing much between 1 and 2 isn't exactly the best the changes they did make made for some very much welcome qol that made the game fun to play (also somewhat unrelated but yw3 was peak)
And clearly taking the actual, existing, real-life "king penguin" breed and running with the concept of a cartoon penguin that _looks_ like a king is blatant copyright infringement. 😉
@@Noko_Bowtie yea thats exactly what I said anubis is just a man with a jackal head it's not exactly the same thing as to what pokemon and palworld did because those are flow blown furries inspired by anubis but my point was is they didn't have to choose the furry route they could've done exactly what anubis is and gave it a human body.
I hate how some people are just 100% Team Palworld or 100% Team Pokemon. While I understand that we humans generally love being part of a group that we feel important to, it gets tiring seeing Pokemon or Palworld fans arguing with one another. Why can't we just enjoy the monster taming/collecting genre as a whole? I'm a huge Pokemon fan but I'm also a huge Digimon and now a Palworld fan. Having played each of the games, I can confidently say that each game offers a different vibe and enjoyment.
I have seen the sane palworld and pokemon fan actually co exists with eachother and actually make collab fan arts. Its the rabid fans that are unfortunately screaming at eachother that one or the other is yhe best
I have a negative perception to palword since its one of those games people hate play (like hateful people play it) like hogwarts legacy, that and the BLATANT art theft. that said I like when people call palworld out on its shit and even strive to improve it
@iguessthisismyworkaccountl8437 I don't think all of the players are hateful players though. Especially those who don't use internet at all and just saw a game release that relates to something they grew up with and played it. I doubt playing a game is indicative of how someone is as a person. Yes a lot of people hate played hogwarts legacy because people were upset with its existence. However on the contrary some people who were upset about that game were harassing people to the point of death threats which fully contradicts the message and point about some other issues. Making those people just as bad as the person they're upset with. Palworld as far as I can tell has no issue like that in terms of creator or such. The creator of palworld does seem.more comfortable with the block chain and crypto but also doesn't seem to be interested in NFT at the same time. The game does have some obvious usage of designs but it also doesn't fall into plagiarism either as it is transformative enough to be counted as parody. The creator of palworld does also admit somewhat to using other ideas that people like, and blending them together to create something fun that people can enjoy. But yeah I do see where you come from for the negative front of palworld. Some of the players are truly awful but so are some from pokemon and some other games. Just depends on who you bump into.
If Nintendo/The Pokemon Company were going to do anything, Palworld wouldn't even have made it to "for sale" status on the various e-stores. Pocket Pair wouldn't have a penny left to continue on as a company once the lawyers got done with them. And if anything was infringing enough to warrant a take down notice, the infringing designs would have been patched out of the game, at least by making the Pal unavailable to find, capture, and use, in a hotfix by now.
If I remember, they have slightly altered some designs. I dont think Nintendo is going to do anything, because they themselves have been caught doing the same thing without trouble.
At 12:30, you’re actually not too far off. The company I work at has been ahead of this whole AI stuff even before it blew up. An AI model is not quite at the ability yet to completely spit out a fresh new design, so if they are AI generated it was probably more the concept art / a doodle that was generated that an artist had to go and fine tune. Thank you for being the one TH-cam I’ve seen discussing this, pointing out that AI right now isn’t some magic lamp of new Pokémon designs.
I've said this since Palworld released, and I will continue saying it until the end of days: Palworld isn't a Pokemon clone. Palworld is an Ark/Rust "clone" with a thin layer of Pokemon paint. Whenever people say "Palworld is just better Pokemon," then I just think "You just like games like Ark/Rust more than you like Pokemon." Most of what I like about Palworld isn't stuff it does ""better"" than Pokemon. How are you going to make a manufactoring HQ base in mainline Pokemon games, which have no survival components and very meager resource gathering aspects at best? The stuff I like about Palworld makes me think "Oh, this would have been a cool feature in Ark" instead. In fact, if you spin that argument on its head and compare features in Pokemon to the present features in Palworld, you can argue the same points but in Pokemon's favor: • The type chart between the two games is like comparing building a brick house to building the same house but in a 1:100 scale out of legos. Palworld doesn't even have resistances, which in a proper competitive setting would mean the winner is just whoever brings the strongest offensive fighters. And this does mean Palworld's type chart is easier to remember, but that also helps in dragging the skill ceiling way down. • Palworld doesn't have an equivalent to even a single Special stat. A majority of RPGs ever since the 90s have included at least that in the form of INT. This _also_ really simplifies the battle system, since you just bring big number fighter with big number move and win. The opponent brings their own fighter with a big number defense? Well, too bad because there's no way around it outside of power scaling them to hell. • There are no held items. Yeah, saddles and some other craftable key items fill the part somewhat in buffing up Pals, but customization is otherwise extra limited and funneled into what the devs want you to make. Imagine the only held items in Pokemon being stuff like Thick Club and the Light Ball. • There are no status moves. The combat sometimes feels like caveman early game Pokemon where you mash Tackle or some other equivalent and hope your damage ratios are better than your opponent's. Healing moves, support moves like Light Screen and Reflect, buffing moves that can make otherwise weaker Pokemon shine are all absent. And I can go on and on about why Pokemon is "better" than Palworld. But my point is that Palworld isn't aiming to make a game with complex, competitive, and turn-based combat. Just like how Pokemon isn't trying to be a resource-focused survival game with base building and management. The Palworld-Pokemon comparisons beyond monster designs have always fallen flat to me exactly because of that. They have you train up the levels of multiple party members so you can boost their stats and become the strongest, I guess, which then makes them both Final Fantasy clones at that point.
I like Pokemon because it's Pokemon. I like the turn-based battles, the role-playing and multiplayer elements, and the variety of party members and composition. I appreciate seeing monster catching games of differ genres (even if it's just Ark with Pokemon), though. There's a lot you can do with the concept.
The thing is, the people saying that Palworld is "better" are speaking from a single-player experience. They really don't give a care about the competitive scene, and that's all fine and good for them! Pokemon has this kind of rift between non-competitive players and competitive players. The non-competitive players feel like Pokémon is abandoning them, and Palworld made a game that is really fun for non-competitive people. Hopefully, gamefreak realizes that they need the non-competitive scene as well. It seems like they're finally making adjustments and balances with the 2 dlc for SV. The biggest issue I have, personally, as someone who enjoys both aspects is that they haven't really done much to replace the HM puzzles. I'm glad we don't have HMs anymore, don't get me wrong, but they allowed for a lot of optional puzzles that usually either lead to cool items or secret pokemon. The pokemon we used to get are now easily obtainable without the puzzles and the items are just thrown about on the ground without any care.
Literally that last sentence honestly applies to FNaF World, since it also follows that gameplay. But nobody would ever draw a comparison between it and Pokemon. And that's exactly how I see Palworld. People who force this narrative of 'Plaworld will overtake pokemon. Gamefreak is shaking in their boots' fundamentally dont understand either or both of the games (and rather just want to 'see big company fall').
It took me a minute to realize that I was watching a sponsor. I was just sitting there like: "damn, she sure is rambling about Opera a lot... WAIT A MINU-"
“None of these clones had gone” CandyEvie randomly forgetting that digimon evolve into giant killer robots, giant dinosaurs with literal cannons for arms and knights with swords and canons for arms.
3:43- Thank you! Seriously, this was probably the most different of all the monster collection games, yet it got more undeserved backlash than Digimon back in the day. It's sad enough this mindset that only Pokemon is allowed to exists is still a thing when most cases like this last a couple of years at most, but I legit felt sorry for Yo-Kai Watch and its fanbase.
It's not just Pokemon fan that don't like clones of their game I've seen with the like of Grand theft Auto fans and so on I think clones are fine some are even better than the originals in my opinion I found saints row 2 better than most Grand theft Auto games.
It's insane that back in 2015 to 2017 social media post and TH-cam videos were treating yo kai watch like it shot their dog over being a monster collecting game with basically no other similarties to pokemon
Yokai watch is an entire different game, but tried to grab the same public. You don't see people comparing Shin Megami Tensei or Persona with Pokémon (because SMT came 1st btw) and both games have more in common with Pokémon as an turn base RPG than any other monster collection game.
I still wish people gave yo-kai watch more love because it's a great game! Sure, it's another monster collector but it has a neat spin to it where your opponent chooses to join instead of you making it, which adds a bit more cuteness to catching if you ask me because an angsty gangsta lizard is asking to be fwends and it's just great! Plus I can't get enough of games referencing Japanese stuff!
This is a perfect summary of my exact feeling on Palworld! It's hard to compare the two, other than the designs and other factors you mentioned, because Palword and Pokémon are almost completely separate styles of games. Great video!
22:45 This aspect matters a lot. Zomboid is another game that has recently gained a lot of popularity despite being in early access for almost a decade and still is
Depresso is like a dark Espurr clone. When I first saw him, I instantly saw the resemblance.. And Espurr is my favorite Pokemon.. and Depresso is my favorite pal. I've always wanted like a regional variant or another form of Espurr and Palworld was the one who delivered.
Funny thing is, if you check the original names (Palworld was made in Japan) you'll find a single, interesting difference between Espurr and Depresso - his name is Ndakoala. Yes, our caffeine-dependent dark Pal is a koala.
Good video! I do kinda wish you had gone into the bananas stuff with Pocket Pair's development of Palworld, like how they literally stumbled upon a random dude who worked at 7-11 and his hobby was making intricate gun reload animations on youtube, and hired him and that's why all the guns have incredibly accurate, detailed animations, especially the real guns like the musket. or how the CEO's plan was literally "keep working on the game until we are two weeks away from going bankrupt, then release it in early access". and that is literally what they did, "oh, we're about to completely run out of money? time to go on steam and xbox!" that's why it didn't have a release date until VERY close to the initial release.
Monster Rancher fan, hello!!!! You're right, it does look like the Tiger breed- but I feel like Tigers have more fur than the wolf Pal (i dont know the name) that it's definitely more distinct.
@@LarusFotia Tiger's have less fur (more head fur around face that is spiky, then smoother fur until bushy tail). But they also have horns and the blue color is on the upper half of body fading into white (iirc?) whereas Direhowl is more ringed in blackish blue/white. Like quite a few other designs, it just feels they they took two-three designs already made and fused them. I'm in a Pokemon ARPG, and we actually went through the PalDex to see which designs would be accepted as designs if type swapped (Depresso- Dark type Espurr) or fused (Dinossom- Goodra/Lilligant) pokemon. 😅 Some are legit, original designs. But most are just butchered pieces. Dinossom stood out to me personally because I love Goodra. Lamball felt kinda generic lamb- somewhere between a Wooloo and Wooly (Rune Factory).
My reaction to Palworld is that one meme with the two cakes. Baker: Aww, someone already made this kind of cake. Audience: Holy sh*t, two cakes! (That's me, I'm the audience.)
I guess that's one way to look at it, though you cant be upset when the other people who made uniqe cakes get upset at you for eating the cake that's a copy of theirs.

I actually really liked the yo-kai watch. I thought it was fun and unique. My biggest problem with it was that the catching system was kind of annoying

One of my favorite things about the whole “Palworld being a Pokeclone” drama is that Nintendo explicitly does NOT care, and any official statements were just to get fans to shut up about it lol
it’s honestly crazy to me that game freak takes more action against fan content than stuff like this because if Palworld isn’t any concern then what’s the problem with fan games
@@Void_Echoes Fan games would have to have completely unique graphics, unique setting and can't used Trade Marked words like Pokemon etc. By that point, it's no longer a Fan Game. So yeah, Palworld(heck even a blatant Pokemon clone) and Pokemon Fan Games are completely different legally speaking.

Personally I think one of the reasons Palworld took off as well as it did was because people who played pokemon as a child when it started grew up and were looking for a more "adult" themed pokemon to play. Nintendo wasn't ever going to make a pokemon for adults so indie devs had to fill the gap in the market (as they often do)
True but no one said it had to change pokemons E for everyone and it should stay that way at least now people have rated M pokeclone game they can play while pokemon fans that dont care about it staying the same can still enjoy the pokemon games its a win win for everyone
There are definitely some Pals, that draw from Beta-Pokemon designs. There was a generation 1 Jeti Pokemon, that never made it and looks almost exactly like a Pal. And the cat sorceress looks like a more cat-like Delphox wearing Mismagius.
23:38 I'm from the future and here to tell what happens. So instead of using this instance of competition to maybe better themselves, Nintendo is petty enough to weaponize the patenting of basic game mechanics of the genre against an indie developer.
Yeah it did for like 2015/2016 but only in Japan. After that,Yo-Kai Watch 3 came out and sold less than 1 and 2. Then the remaster of the 1st game for Switch sold even less and fast forward to now where Level 5 said that there's no future plans for any new Yo-Kai Watch content
Palworld devs are based, no compromise on moral or ethics when it comes to delivering exactly what people want. They just kept adding fun features from other games and shockingly it worked. Those plagiarism arguments are pointless, if Pokemon could take it down they would have done so already, and at the end of the day if gameplay is good people will show up no matter what, and they nailed the gameplay, with a carrot on the stick of promised features to come - personally I was waiting for dlc before coming back to the game. They also have fresh and very positive angle on social media, they come off super chill and passionate, you can't help but start rooting for them. Perfect lightning in a bottle scenario.
I’m shocked you didn’t post anything about the Pokémon Legends Z-A announcement (tho to be fair we have little to no info, I just remember everyone was making a video about it)
Pokémon Company knew about this game before it even came out. If there was any infringement they would’ve made sure Palworld would never release. Palworld ain’t going down through litigation.

I called him banto and it was something my uncle would keep doing until he had passed too, it was so weird and nice and wholesome to remember this just from your funny bit but it made my day
I think the issue is that Palworld has the style of pokemon in the monster designs, because Dragon Quest has similar looking monsters to Pokemon, but the art style helps it stand out so it doesn’t look like it would be in a pokemon game (or a pokemon being in a dragon quest game)
Exactly thank you, Dragon quest & pokemon have destingt styles that define their design elements. DQ having destingt stout & thicklined designs while PM has more round & expressive. one could even practice drawing a creature from the other franchises style. But Palworld is spesifically using the PM artstyle, They could have made an artstyle that reflects the survival & shock elements but nah, (could have copyd digimon atleast)
Pokémon wasn't even first in any of their aspects.. it took huge inspirations from Shin Megami Tensei, Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest.. it's like calling WoW an 'Everquest ripoff'
That kind of does Pokémon a disservice because they did add a lot of new mechanics that were unique to it Like the concept of facing 8 gyms and a champion those were unique to Pokemon also in games before Pokemon they used more complicated methods such as befriending them in a multitude of ways Pokemon was the first monster catcher where you could capture them in a device Pokemon took a wildly unique approach to the concept Pokemon doesn’t own monster capture but there are elements future series borrowed that are unique to Pokemon
I believe Pokemon was inspired by the a story where one of the devs wanted a drop in Dragon Quest that their friend had two of, thinking how cool trading in an RPG would be.
@@madnessarcade7447 I mean not really, Tajiri's love for collecting bugs and watching ultraman (where capsule monsters and a lot of early pokemon designs and mechanics are based on) is where pokemon got its roots from. Kaijus, bugs and capsules to capture and battling them.
15:24 You can also catch humans which counts as assault but there's little benefit to doing so as they have no moves, won't use their weapons and also have no work stats. That said, if you get away with it, no one will notice it again with the same captured human, even if you send out the captured human right in front of an officer in the scant few human settlements.
I also wanted to say recently the devs for palworld changed Azurobe recently! Looks like they're going to make little changes to pals because of the constant death threat them and their families have gotten. :(
Honestly, it's really disappointing that she did that ad sponsor. AI assistants do not comprehend sources, they really do skim and regurgitate information but slightly changed to make it appear comprehended, and she was misleading there. A lot of AI assistants actually help perpetuate misinformation and even create it, including putting out dangerous claims like on allergy safety, health, and people's rights. We don't want AI to disappear from whence it came because it's scary or something, we want it to stop being given out to just anyone regardless of their intentions, and scraping the work of people in underappreciated industries to train it like artists and writers, yes including every time it's just casually used to generate memes. AI is important for good things like automating mass labour in analysis quantitative data in science and medical fields in order to free up people's work. AI assistants for Internet queries are misuse and provide lower quality things than the work of the people writing the articles it scrapes from. We don't need Opera GX.
@@lilpetz500and also opera gx is a horrible browser. its chromium based meaning its at the whim of google. open sourced browsers like firefox are far better
Some similar designs aside, I don't get why people call this a Pokemon clone when it's far closer to a game like ARK than it is Pokemon. The fact is, Palworld and Pokemon can both stand on their own. And do their own thing. I was personally following the Palworld project for years before it's Early Access release and loved the idea of it, but even back then I could tell it wasn't just another Pokemon clone. Having said that I do think it has provided some sort of wake up call to the Pokemon Company, who have since said in interviews that they are taking complaints of the previous few games a lot more seriously now. I like to think that Palworld made them realise that they can't ride the nostalgia train forever, and that they need to start creating games of better quality, because all it takes is for one monster catcher to come in, get the formula of originality/inspiration just right, and completely splinter the Pokemon community. PS, and I mean this in the nicest way, I would take some time to research Opera GX. I don't blame you for taking the sponsor at all but there's some incredibly seedy stuff going on over there, and I personally along with many others would not feel comfortable taking their money.
Since you're exploring "Pokeclones", I'd like to recommend Cassette Beasts. A fantastic game that released around the same time as Tears of the Kingdom and was sadly eclipsed by it.
Well I wouldn't call shin megami tensai monster taming, it's more like demon bribing where you sweet talk them or give them items to bribe the demons to work for you.
@@vanguardluard8334 it's still bribing not taming like if you ever read anything about demonology where you sell your soul to get demons to do your biding, it's similar to other demonic games like Onimusha for example where you got to work with your oni counterpart to work with you to fight enemies, even like persona where you bribe demons to work for you and use in battles to stop castles. So I wouldn't call shin megami tensai a monster taming game, more around demonology inspired game if you read everything about demonology.
@@vanguardluard8334 Not really people just called it that way because that is all they know what to call it because they don't have any education about demonology unless they're demonolgists themselves or witches in real life and into that paranormal scene but if anything it's more under demonology occult genre of games, where you bribe demons to do your bidding where they take your spirit or health or money or something that is valuable to you to get them to work for you, like Bayonetta another example of a game where she is a witch, and she has demons working with her to fight against enemy it's not monster taming it's a whole different genre all together.
As a Pokemon and Digimon fan, it is because they are aimed at different audiences. Pokemon's primary focus is the games, Digimon's primary focus is the V-pets being a Tamagotchi spin off EDIT: I say as someone with 7 digimon Vpets, 2 vital bracelets, and 5 tamagotchis
4:36 This argument never made sense to me because Okami and Zelda Twilight Princess had no problem making unique looking wolves over a decade ago. Same thing with Azurobe. Pokemon has three other snakes (Arbok, Seviper and Sandaconda) and none of them look like Serperior the way Azurobe does. 10:21 Nothing new here. Their previous work, Craftopia, borrowed heavily from Zelda Breath of the Wild, with the UI, paraglider and enemy camp designs being almost identical.

Man, Evie The fact that you took in that Opera sponsorship and highlighted the AI element of all things really stings Like, I know you don't go around social media much but the fact is... Many, many artists and writers have lost their jobs and income to Ai already, and are fighting an uphill battle to stop it. Aria uses the same model that is known to run on stolen content too, so... Yeah Big love but damn, that stings
I've never liked the idea of "this iconic game did it first so now every other game that does it is a clone/copycat." I feel like passion projects and games were always meant to be shared and built upon and the whole copycat mentality only goes to belittle and push aside games that could have been great. Yo-kai watch is a great example of this. You only went into very little detail about them but as someone who played all the games (that were released in the US at least) the amount of detail and passion oozing out of every corner of those games really makes it a shame that so many people wrote it off as just some low effort clone and never gave it a chance.
My biggest issues with the Switch Pokemon games is that they are marketed as complete, full price games. And they are graphic and performance nightmares. Meanwhile Palworld is half the cost and you only have to buy one version and it's in early access! They are still fixing bugs and adding content. It's pretty malicious to compare their performance when they are so different.
The pals having their own cries is so good! as much as there is a lot of design cohesion issues, I think that it got some really important fundamentals just right. by having attacks make sound and the pals have cries, you can hear battles in the distance and scattering a group of small animals while you walk down a trail actually sounds like you startled some monkeys while you are looking for berries. as much as I have heard a lot of negative things about the development of this game, it gives my little monkey brain so much happy
Also, I want to say this. Like. Orzerk actually slaps. It's like, they looked at Garchomp and just went full opposite mode. Electric Orca Dragon instead of ground shark dragon? They basically stole a regional form of Garchomp out from under the pokemon company. 10/10 design, it's a great riff on the pokemon, looks amazing, I wanna see them fight. Verdash is like, trying to do this again and failing hard. Like. Grass Cinderace could work, they just didn't really do enough to make it stand out.
I actually like Verdash’s design better than Cinderace; the tail really helps the design. I should mention that I literally could not care less about the plagiarism argument; if it didn’t violate copyright, then I don’t care.
direhowl is based on an actual direwolf. rayhound is a bit of a stretch with "oh, it has a dog head like Lucario" 19:20 sucks galar feels more like brazil, with a sprinkle of uk. 20:00 there is an option for them to be like their own self-sufficient little hamlet, they farm, take breaks, make their own food and bring food to the eating area, give them pets, and force the pal abusers to work for you and treat the pals nicely. you can quite honestly just make an entire town for your pals to live in. 21:50 that's why they have "report an issue" in the menu, so they can patch it.
I'll be honest I don't think this will kill pokemon and don't think it will last past it's final update Also I wouldn't be surprised if the suddenly disappear off the face of the planet before even the second update
If nintendo had a single foot to stand on for copyright infringement on designs they would have done it already and the ripping of assets has been debunked.
I disagree with the lycanroc one. Even though it's true that you can make many different wolf designs, it doesn't change the fact that Pokémon doesn't own the concept of a basic cartoon feralish wolf design which already looks similar to some monster wolf designs in the past anyway. It feels like your argument is trying to justify using public domain concepts but then preventing other people from using it when you never owned the concept in the first place, just because you used or believe you've used it first. If you make a blue bird with anime eyes in a basic body, people are likely within the right to do the same thing unless the design of your bird is unique enough or under copyright limitation. The pal didn't copy lycanroc, it only looks similar because it's a GENERICish cartoon beast or final fantasy ish wolf design. It doesn't matter if it's possible to make a far different wolf design to some degree. What matters is that it's still a public domain idea being used if I assume right. Also familiar element isn't always a bad thing. The eevee one does have some similarities but it's also unique enough and can coexist I think.
Thank you so much for bringing up that fricken wolf argument there’s literally so many wolves in games that are all so unique the people who defend this specific one are insane to me 😭

I think game news compared yo-kai watch to Pokemon.....
Pokemon is not the first monster collecting/taming game. So they didn't invent the concept of capturing creatures. You can't copyright a concept.

It also means the slowpoke can’t evolve until their tails grow back, which can take a while.
And also it's just unnecessary torture
On top of that, the salamander/lizards, absolutely do not just grow them back without issue, its unnecesary stress and on top of that does very much have limits
Also both Cyclizar and Sceptile naturally learn the move "Shed Tail" so it isn't even exclusive to Slowpokes

Well it doesn't because just like palworld it's called a pokemon clone when really it's an ark clone with cute monster's

If Nintendo was gonna do anything about this legally. They would have.
yea Pokemon mod got dmca within 24 hours

I've said this since Palworld released, and I will continue saying it until the end of days:
Palworld isn't a Pokemon clone. Palworld is an Ark/Rust "clone" with a thin layer of Pokemon paint. Whenever people say "Palworld is just better Pokemon," then I just think "You just like games like Ark/Rust more than you like Pokemon."
Most of what I like about Palworld isn't stuff it does ""better"" than Pokemon. How are you going to make a manufactoring HQ base in mainline Pokemon games, which have no survival components and very meager resource gathering aspects at best? The stuff I like about Palworld makes me think "Oh, this would have been a cool feature in Ark" instead.
In fact, if you spin that argument on its head and compare features in Pokemon to the present features in Palworld, you can argue the same points but in Pokemon's favor:
• The type chart between the two games is like comparing building a brick house to building the same house but in a 1:100 scale out of legos.
@@miimiiandcoif you haven't yet, I'd definitely recommend trying out Cassette Beasts!

The irony of Evie talking about the questionable nature of AI after sponsoring it
Damn, she put a 2 minute section in the video, AND paid Opera GX for it? Good deal for them.
Here I was thinking she was _being sponsored_ by it.
AI is a very broad term, there is no damage in using it as a tool stuff like asking it to find answers on the internet like how she demonstrated in the video, the problem starts when people try to use it to create things out of stolen material, like AI Art that is trained with somebody else’s art without their consent.
@@geryeh5298ai is not a good way of finding answers, it will confidently lie to you and just spread misinformation extremely often
I fucking despise AI art, but an AI tool and AI generative model are two wildly different things. People who are generalising AI this hard will have a heart attack when they find out what pilots video gams enemies (its AI).
@@pokemonfanmario7694 AI tool like what opera using is similar to chatgpt, it also takes without giving sources, full of misinformation and did not ask for permission from the authors (look at the case of fanfictions being scrapped from Ao3)

You are actually the only person to bring up the UI looking like legends. Most people point out the ark menus lol
You totally fall into the Map in Scarlet/Violet. Ivee done it in every area except the Blueberry academy
One of my favorite things about the whole “Palworld being a Pokeclone” drama is that Nintendo explicitly does NOT care, and any official statements were just to get fans to shut up about it lol
Honestly! Its like the equivalent of someone blowing up a bounce house in their Orlando backyard and people expecting Disney to take action
it’s honestly crazy to me that game freak takes more action against fan content than stuff like this because if Palworld isn’t any concern then what’s the problem with fan games
Because fan games are using their IP and palworld isn't lol @@Void_Echoes
@@Void_Echoes Fan games would have to have completely unique graphics, unique setting and can't used Trade Marked words like Pokemon etc. By that point, it's no longer a Fan Game. So yeah, Palworld(heck even a blatant Pokemon clone) and Pokemon Fan Games are completely different legally speaking.

I was playing BDSP and in the library the say they ate Pokemon in the past
7:04 You should play Dragon Quest if you like pokemon, they've been very similar, except that DQ has made the jump to 3D amazingly great. But the 8 bit sprite games are really good, specially the Game Boy Color ones, plus there's the monster collection spin-off. 100% recommended
palworld is ark with pokemon characteristics
-gamebreaking bugs
-making friends through blunt force
-gunning down innocent animals
-general survival
That is pretty much it lol, especially the bug part
Personally I think one of the reasons Palworld took off as well as it did was because people who played pokemon as a child when it started grew up and were looking for a more "adult" themed pokemon to play. Nintendo wasn't ever going to make a pokemon for adults so indie devs had to fill the gap in the market (as they often do)
True but no one said it had to change pokemons E for everyone and it should stay that way at least now people have rated M pokeclone game they can play while pokemon fans that dont care about it staying the same can still enjoy the pokemon games its a win win for everyone
If Palworld is adult themed then Twilight is 18+
I am HUGE Pokemon fan and also a HUGE Dragon Quest fan. Let me tell you - the designs of both games couldn't be more diffrent.
PalWorld is the first monster taming game I have played in years. It was fun and that is good enough for me.
One of the clearly plagiarized designs people seem to ignore for some reason is Depresso. Its literally just an Espurr
Yo-Kai Watch did dethrone Pokémon back in 2016 I think but only in Japan which actually sounds worse ngl

Pal World is trolling so hard, but people seem to be enjoying it.
Pokémon Company knew about this game before it even came out. If there was any infringement they would’ve made sure Palworld would never release.
Palworld ain’t going down through litigation.
I appreciate your take of "Pokemon doesn't need me to defend them" take, especially since Pokemon have had 3 years to sue and have done nothing
Pal world always felt more like a parody or satire of Pokémon when always made me treat similarities in creatures as a reference
You forgot that you can enslave humans via catching them in pal spheres.

But Palworld is spesifically using the PM artstyle,
They could have made an artstyle that reflects the survival & shock elements but nah, (could have copyd digimon atleast)
Cassette beasts deserved the hype palworld got
Pokémon wasn't even first in any of their aspects.. it took huge inspirations from Shin Megami Tensei, Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest.. it's like calling WoW an 'Everquest ripoff'
That kind of does Pokémon a disservice because they did add a lot of new mechanics that were unique to it
Like the concept of facing 8 gyms and a champion those were unique to Pokemon
also in games before Pokemon they used more complicated methods such as befriending them in a multitude of ways Pokemon was the first monster catcher where you could capture them in a device Pokemon took a wildly unique approach to the concept
Pokemon doesn’t own monster capture but there are elements future series borrowed that are unique to Pokemon
Does this mean friendship is over with Junichi Matuba?
perhaps :(
gotta wonder who exactly is going to a browser because it has an ai assistant

Yo-Kai Watch has guns.
Since you're exploring "Pokeclones", I'd like to recommend Cassette Beasts. A fantastic game that released around the same time as Tears of the Kingdom and was sadly eclipsed by it.
Too bad game wasn't popular enough due to the art style
Well Pokemon didn't create the monster tamer genre that was in shin Megami Tensai
Well I wouldn't call shin megami tensai monster taming, it's more like demon bribing where you sweet talk them or give them items to bribe the demons to work for you.
@@TheChildOfDarkness a monster tamer game means where you capture or befriend monster or creatures that fight for or with you that you train
@@TheChildOfDarkness but it's still under the monster tamer games
@@vanguardluard8334 Not really people just called it that way because that is all they know what to call it because they don't have any education about demonology unless they're demonolgists themselves or witches in real life and into that paranormal scene but if anything it's more under demonology occult genre of games, where you bribe demons to do your bidding where they take your spirit or health or money or something that is valuable to you to get them to work for you, like Bayonetta another example of a game where she is a witch, and she has demons working with her to fight against enemy it's not monster taming it's a whole different genre all together.

10:21 Nothing new here. Their previous work, Craftopia, borrowed heavily from Zelda Breath of the Wild, with the UI, paraglider and enemy camp designs being almost identical.

The fact that you took in that Opera sponsorship and highlighted the AI element of all things really stings
Like, I know you don't go around social media much but the fact is... Many, many artists and writers have lost their jobs and income to Ai already, and are fighting an uphill battle to stop it. Aria uses the same model that is known to run on stolen content too, so... Yeah
Big love but damn, that stings
yeah but opera's AI it not responsible for that, it does not create graphics, music or writes article (good and press-fitted articles).
I'll be honest I don't think this will kill pokemon and don't think it will last past it's final update
Also I wouldn't be surprised if the suddenly disappear off the face of the planet before even the second update
Palworld felt like someone saw the multitude of terrible PETA pokemon games and was like, "What if this was also breath of the wild?"
Thank you so much for bringing up that fricken wolf argument there’s literally so many wolves in games that are all so unique the people who defend this specific one are insane to me 😭
Am I missing something or was there no mention of that being a sponsored segment? Because it definitely was
