    Just in case you. didn't know. Sisu is a Finnish concept described as stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness and is held by us Finns to express our national character. It is generally considered not to have a literal equivalent in English.

      @DavidStruveDesigns ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatonegarlicinthesoup5543 Except almost all of those words have the same meaning. "grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness" are literally different words that say the same thing. They're not separate traits - they're the same trait. It's actually weird that English has so many words to describe just one thing, whereas having a single word as the Finnish do makes way more sense linguistically.

    Sisu means for me that you never ever give up. No matter the odds. It means the sameting as grit. This movie for me looks fun, but from a finnish perspective this movie trailer was to americanized. But gladly the word is out. When ever you felt ever breaking point, at the lowest part in your life, its that time you gathering the courage within you and scream SISU. Its a mindset we'll finns shares.

    Sisu is the word for the Finnish national character. What it means to be Finnish. An unquestioning will to move forward to succeed even in the face of the impossible. When my Finnish Grandfather was in his late 80s he had a stroke and fell off a ladder and was paralized... he got better.. when he finaly passed in his 90s it wasn't the heart attack that killed him... or the second one he had in hospital.... or the strokes he had as well... no it was stomach cancer. The good lord had to call out a hit on my grandfather and I'm pretty sure the angel of death was asking if they could give him a pass.

      One of my best friends is from Lahti and I already knew about sisu. But then I'm an Irish catholic in Northern Ireland. I lived through a bloody civil war. My granny had to sell herself into modern day slavery. We live next door to our colonial oppressors. We know sisu here too. Best description of Sisu I've ever heard was:
      Two soldiers are in the trench and bunker and it's the winter war of 1944, there is a platoon of Orks bearing down on them. They just look at one and other and say, we're going to have to dig so many graves tomorrow.

    I liked Sisu movie. It is good mixture of good old 80's American action movie with strong Tarantino influence and story about war what is not so familiar to big audiences. It is not historically accurate, not realistic, but it does not matter. It is good action movie, but "Rare Exports" is even better action movie from same director.

    • @RoninJoegenji0085
      @RoninJoegenji0085 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the director of Rare Exports? I didn't know that big win for me.

    • @juhaimmanen6041
      @juhaimmanen6041 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RoninJoegenji0085 Yes. Jalmari Helander is director. Rare Exports is about the true story about pre-christianity Santa Claus (joulupukki, very similar to German Krampus). Rare Exports won Finnish national awards. About Sisu, main character is directors brother in law. Nazi tank driver is son of main character. Finnish movie making runs in very small circuits. My friend Mika Orasmaa is AD for Jalmari movies with exception of Sisu. I have met Jalmari at Mika's summer cottage after Big Game movie. Finnish jet set life is BBQ with random nobodies (like me).
