Time is not absolute. You can become a champion in 2 years of hard work or you can train 10 years and never be nothing. Boxing is a sport that proves who you are, makes you go out of your comfort zone, probably, the hardest but the most beautiful sport of all.
I’m 61. I took an “Old Dog” boxing match 2 years ago. Three rounds, 2 minutes each, with 2 minutes rest. Full headgear, frequent counts if caught and quick towels. It was a blast. I’m thinking about doing another later this year. As an elder boxer I’m not looking to prove anything, I don’t wanna get hurt, or hurt anyone. That said, if you don’t wanna get wet don’t go swimming. I’m still fast and always moving but find I tire quicker. Mentally it keeps me sharp, physically its a great work out. I simply love the sport so why not? Won’t find me with a fat belly on a golf course. I’ll take my risks in the ring doing the best I can to mitigate risks.

I am a box fan since i was a kid. I´m 43 and i started practicing boxing some months ago... never felt so good. I´m a musician and get this question often... the answer it´s always the same. IT´S NEVER LATE. Great advice from the coach, specially from the brain angle
i started when I was 39. I am now 41 and have scheduled my first amateur match. it's Olympic style with head protection. i train 3 times boxing and 3 times gym a week. i feel like I am 25. no difference.
Head "protection" isn't protection. Cushioning yes. Protection no. Plus in the amateurs you don't win money. It's more expense than anything. For a homeless man and with debt, that's not an option!
I'm 35 started boxing, not for competition but rather fitness and to learn the skill and be half decent at it. That said i have experienced some injuries during sparring sessions but i was able to recover. It can be frustrating learning a physical sport at such age but i think the good out weigh the bad.
I love his answer. We (us older guys) will not regain our 20 year old form. But, we will be in our best 40 or 50 year old form. As the coach said. Training the brain and cardio go a long way to creating a healthy older man.. Enjoy. And make sure you are keeping your body balanced.

Realistically, if you watch a professional fight between a 20 and 40 yr old, the 20 yr old will move much faster, but that doesn't mean they don't have more power. For example, Foreman vs Moorer.
In my 50's , I just can't risk the head trauma, otherwise I have the fitness and agility. I train and do light, technical sparring with trustworthy partners and it's It's great fitness
