    One of my biggest mistakes was viewing excerise as a way to get rid of calories, instead of seeing it as something that makes me feel strong, confident and healthy. That shift in perspective made it much easier to enjoy working out and helped turn it into a habit that I do for its benefits on my mental and physical health - not as a punishment for eating.

    One thing I read is that you burn more fat working out on an empty stomach. With me I workout first thing in the morning. I’ve been losing weight by watching what I eat , getting enough sleep ( about 6-8 hours ) drinking water , minimizing my junk food intake , eating plenty of produce , plenty of fish , I run 6 miles every other day , deadlift or whatever type of weight lifting exercise, body weight exercise, do I know what I’m doing , not a clue , but I know I’m doing more than nothing . Doing something is better than sitting on the couch . I slimmed down a lot .

    • @orlandoploom4585
      @orlandoploom4585 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I can say that working out on an empty stomach is completely not like this, when it comes to a cardio, you actually have better endurance thanks to an empty stomach and so on, but also since you cross barrier of your bpm i think its like 160-170 your body shoud be using carbs, but since you dont have them, it is switching for energy from your muscles, so you might just be burning your muscles rather than fat, its up to cardio. When it comes to lifting weights, with an empty stomach you are mourdering your body mate, you might experience feeling weak, tired after just a moment, and as well as with cardio, at some time instead of building muscles, you might burn them. So i suggest you eating some carbs combined with proteins before workout, not too big portion, just to make you full for like 70-80% and then start your training. It is actually gonna work better, i mean your total intake of calories will be the same but you'll end up burning what you ate during the training

Low calorie things are good if you're just munching for boredom and not exerting much energy. At my gym, I've done a whole 45 minutes of cardio while watching this girl who was by the weights. A lot of people were over there, but I was watching her because she was on her phone the WHOLE time. I saw her do 2 sets of squats within that 45 minutes I was sweating my a$$ off, the rest of the time on her phone...she literally was in the cute fit, had weights & other props next to her and didn't use them the whole time. It's not uncommon to see people text for 10 minutes in between their sets, just hogging the machine for no reason. Pet peeve asf...this is why I refuse to go to the gym at busy hour. It's not the lack of people I like, it's the lack of people who go to the gym to NOT workout that are never there at midnight. If you go at night, you're surrounded by people who actually want to be there, in and out fast, and not hogging the equipment.

    A mistake I was making while dieting was making sure everything was as bland as possible. If I was enjoying my food, it must be unhealthy. Adding salt, splenda, or any zero calorie topping such as Walden Farms syrup was a no-no. It was just so unsustainable because I wasn’t enjoying my food, causing me to yoyo diet. Cooking with salt has helpd me so much to stay committed to eating more healthy and to cooking my own meals. When I was growing up, my mom treated salt like it was the devil and never used it when cooking, and for a long time I did the same. Part of the motivation for that is that high blood pressure runs in our family. I had the same experience you had: the meals I cooked were so bland and unappealing that I could never stick to it.
      I still keep an eye on how much salt I use. I have measured out that one pinch of salt for me is a bit less than 1/4 tsp which is ~500mg of sodium, so I can keep a rough track of what my sodium intake is. But you still need some sodium, and if you are cooking most of your own meals from scratch, there is not going to be much sodium coming from your raw ingredients, so you have more leeway to add salt for taste.
      Once I started using salt, I found a joy and sense of wholesomeness to cooking all my own meals. They are reasonably tasty, very filling, and it leaves me feeling good about myself and the choices I am making.

So, from going from a super fit, exercise loaded lifestyle, I then became reclusive, and the weight just piled on, with depression, and then health issues [thyroid! etc..] So my advice is to ladies especially, but also males too, if you are ever body shamed by a so-called 'loving partner' - it is truly their problem, don't let them make it yours! Big mistake I learned in my weight loss was not all calories are the same. At one point I was trying to cut calories down to 700 every day, but was only looking at the number. I was so hungry every day because it was nothing but carbs and sugar. Eventually I started watch my micros. Started eating more protein and less carbs. Just by switching what I ate. I was able to eat up to 1000+ calories more and have the same results. No more starvation diets!!!

    • @user-kd7kk3zb5w
      @user-kd7kk3zb5w 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Your big mistake is to eat very little. 700 is super low, super unhealthy unless you're a child. That's your mistake. Not "not all calories are the same". But yeah, some foods are better in terms of getting you full. But this isn't about calories. Calories are a different thing.

  • @MartinaGiovese
    @MartinaGiovese ปีที่แล้ว +12

    One thing I realized was that my portion sizes were wayyy too big. Even if I was eating healthy food, I was eating double or triple servings. We often think that we can eat more healthy food than unhealthy food (and you can to an extent) but the amount makes the poison. Especially if trying to slim down and not bulk up, if you have a history of overeating you'll probably need to shrink your stomach down to be satisfied from smaller portion sizes.
    This is why I never fully agreed with influencers who say to just eat a big serving of carrots or popcorn, because even if you're taking in less calories overall, you're not really shrinking your stomach down to a sustainable size. Maintaining your satiety throughout the day with multiple meals and small healthy snacks is wayyy better for you (plus it can work with an intermittent fasting schedule if you want to do that).
    Now I'm maintaining a healthy diet that is high in lean protein, packed with lots of fresh veggies and fruit, a little bit of healthy carbs, and small healthy snacks throughout the day and I feel completely satiated! I can't even explain how much better I feel, just way less bogged down. Now I just need to step up my exercise to match!

    Diet is a crucial thing, without it exercise won't help at all. Many beginners struggle to find a proper diet because they want fast results and they end up with no results at all, less money in their pockets and probably some big health problems. First of all, you have ti change your mindset, so I encourage you to do a research and find a diet that will work for you. If you still don't know where to start, consider dietarize as your starting point (it comes with a workout plan as a bonus, which I find convenient since it doesn't require going to the gym at all). If I managed to transform my body, everyone could do it!!💪💪💪

The pretty salad was a great choice at the time, but when evening rolls around and old habits are coming up because of hunger, that salad quickly becomes less effective for my journey. I am still struggling with it after losing 50kgs, and no, the issue isnt that i keep gaining weight, but that i keep losing weight and i am just scared of increasing my calorie intake and end up gaining weight again, i searched about the way i felt online and it said that i might have obesophobia
      And great job on losing so much weight! I know it took alot of time and dedication to lose the weight and maintain it

      @@nutmalone5527 If you’re still losing weight consistently then add a small amount of calories at a time. You could start with adding an extra 100 to 200 calories per day and seeing how that affects your weight over the course of a few weeks. If still losing weight, add another interval of calories. I maintain around 205 pounds while eating about 3500 calories a day. But I was losing about 2 pounds a week on 2700 to 2800 calories a day. So I gradually added calories back in over the course of a couple of months to find where I could maintain a weight I feel best at.
      As someone who lost 130 pounds at one point (320 pounds to 190 pounds) I used to be afraid of adding back in calories, but it can do the body good and help you maintain your goal weight.

    It's going to sound counterintuitive for a lot of people, but one thing that helped me was actually planning one fast food meal a week or every two weeks. I knew that on that day I'd in a surplus of roughly 500 calories, so I'd just create a slightly bigger deficit for the remaining 6 days. Reason is, I tried cutting it out completely a few times and it didn't work. I wouldn't have any fast food for a month or two and then I'd allow myself to go once. So I'd go to McDonald's for example and think "Oh, but I also want to eat A&W...and Harvey's...and maybe Burger King. Oh yeah and that lebanese spot near my house." and then I'd snap right back into ruining my diet up. By having it planned, I could eat at different fast foods every week/every other week and still lose weight.

      That’s what motivated me too. I go out to a restaurant every Saturday if I lose 3lbs. If I don’t lose the weight I don’t go, but I’ll still cheat at home. Even with fast food. No matter what every Saturday I allow myself to cheat. It was every Saturday, but a lot of times I cheat the whole weekend which I’m okay with. It makes it easier to sustain the diet for life. The weight loss is slow going, but I am losing weight.

      @@currbag I eat fast food on cheat days too. It just wouldn’t be my weekly reward for losing 3lbs. I try to make the best choices I can during the week and cheat on the weekend, but it’s not a hard rule. If I have a craving during the week and I really just don’t want to say no then I’ll still satisfy the craving. It’s better to satisfy it now than let it go out of control and ruin progress. Generally I do pull through without breaking my diet and I don’t crave often and when I do I’m good about scheduling it for the weekend when I don’t mind satisfying cravings. I make weekly charts where I keep track of the bigger picture of my decisions throughout the week like if I ate anything unhealthy or healthy or did I keep to calorie limits, etc and I’m surprisingly keeping to my calories 3-4 times in the week. This is the case for perhaps the last month. I think if I combine that with going to the gym or walking I should lose more. My weight-loss has mostly been the result of diet with very little to moderate exercise. I exercised more before this, but after I plateaued I stopped for the most part. I didn’t feel like it was helping or I wasn’t seeing the results. Now that I’m losing again I might have to pick back up and go to the gym/walk.

    My biggest issues with losing weight in the past was having a consistent & obtainable goal. I was eating 1000 cals a day, doing 1 hour of cardio, and absolutely hated it. I lost 15 lbs in 3 months and honestly with how strict I was, I should've lost more, but quickly gained it all back.
    My second biggest issue the second go round when I actually did lose weight (around 50 lbs) was not seeing the other issues with my body...this messed me up for MONTHS and it was that I was bloated asf, had zero muscle mass & I was nearly UNDERWEIGHT and still thought I was fat because of the lack of definition & muscle that tightens the body. I realized I had loose skin, NOT fat roles, and a very weak abdomen that was separated...hence why my belly stuck way out. I'm not joking or overexaggerating one bit when I tell you the SECOND I started eating protein, my whole body bulked up, rounded out & looked more toned overnight. After a week of just eating right, my body started to look like how I was it training it to look all year...literally just eating protein gave every muscle in my body (even the ones I did not workout) growth. It was magic. Then once I started actually doing core workouts, my belly started to flatten. Im finally fixing these issues properly.
    Also, food is FUEL. I was doing strenuous workouts on empty stomachs, and it was so hard and demotivating. My muscles cramped so much, and a nights rest didn't help. I wasn't giving my muscles all the proper recovery through diet...if you wanna loose weight more sufficiently, you have to EAT. don't just eat a rice krispy bar or popcorn..eat a nutritious diet with protein, carbs & fat, that fit within your calorie deficit. You will feel so much better...

    I once put myself on a low carb diet and managed to loose around 40 pounds, but I didn't know how to level it out or what kind of workouts I needed to do. So I slowly gained it all back and even gained more weight. I went from 310 to 270 around 2018-2019, my weight up until recently was around 330, but I have managed to drop down to 300, partly from being sick and changing little things in my diet.
    I am currently a little less than 6'5" at 300 pounds at the age of 40, I have diabetes, plantar fasciitis, I have heart issues, and I am on blood thinners. I work 40 hours a week and I stand/walk on a concrete floor 8+ hours a day. When I'm not at work, I am either at my house renovating it, at home (currently with my parents til I am done with my house) resting or working on my vehicle. I try to regulate my diet, mainly hoping to lose weight to relieve the pain on my feet and the rest of my body, I have had back issues since I was in my mid 20's, so I don't know what type of workouts I can safely do that will help me.
    I know this probably isn't the right place for this, but any help or ideas on what I should do, I will appreciate it greatly.
    I have enjoyed watching your videos and they have given me hope for getting back my desire to lose weight and maybe someday like the way I look in a mirror again.

    My most recent, "big mistake" was not realizing how lazy I get when I'm dieting. I would still exercise, eat right and be at a deficit but would stall out often after just a few weeks. Took me a bit to realize I would go from multiple walks in a day to make sure I get 250 steps every hour during daylight, competing with friends/families for total steps in a day/week on fitbit, and doing chores consistently/proactively when I was at maintenance to suddenly having a lot of lazy days, where I would just feel exhausted and give myself the excuse to take it easy. I'd stop wearing my fitbit, etc. You burn a surprising amount of calories just being more "lightly" active throughout the day and it's way less stressful/hard to recover from compared to exercise.
    To touch quickly on another mistake I had, it was simply taking on too much at first. When I would finally work up the willpower to get healthy, I'd have the desire to do it all. Calorie counting, eating only healthy foods, exercise, counting steps, the whole shebang but then I would burn out so quickly or be stressed in a way that would be easy to get discouraged at the first barrier to progress. Overall, really focusing on tiny, one at a time adjustments over my life was better than trying to pretend I was a completely different person in the span of minutes. I dropped drinks with calories and only once that was established, did I move onto the diet and then eventually weightlifting.

    Will, you may be allergic to walnuts. I used to eat walnuts and they would make my mouth numb and itchy in places. This only started happening in the past 5 years or so. I had a blood test done and found out I’m allergic to walnuts. My doc prescribed me an EpiPen (Epinephrine) just in case of anaphylaxis and said to quit eating walnuts and foods that contain walnuts.

    13:06 "never use the excuse of something taking too long to not do it, time passes anyway" is one of the most inspiring quotes i have ever encountered, which happened around 4 years ago on a random instagram post. and it still sticks with me to this day.

    One of the biggest mistakes I was making unknowingly was definitely underestimating the amount of fats that I could easily consume even with homemade meals. Once I started to really track my foods I realized how many things out there have lots of fats without noticing (like one tbsp of olive oil having like 15g of fat!), mostly the simplest things. Cutting that down to 20% of my diet during my day was what skyrocketed my cut.

    Until I tracked calories for a month, i didn’t realize how the small, imperceptible foods in a diet pack on the calories… Namely oils, sauces & condiments!

    One of the mistakes I made early on was not counting calories or not getting familiar with how many calories certain portions of food should contain . And yes everyone has made the muffin mistake!
