      No worries 😀
      I wish i'd known it dissolves completely with a little bit of help.
      So unlike flukesolve and fluke m, the drum didn't need bypassing...

      Thanks, 😀
      They are really stubborn little blighters these days with increasing tolerance to all fluke treatments,
      they were an easy fix back in the 1990's... FMG or masoten killed everything lol...😂
      I last had them in 2020 and that took over 6 weeks of treatment too.
      I was fine for the last 2 years, because I haven't added any new koi until recently when I added 6 more.
      Lernex being measured in millilitres and not grammes is an easy one to miss, they are not the same.
      i think it might be because the powder can adsorb water after opening the jar making it heavier,
      or the production weight changes depending on how much moisture is in it.

    Hi Dave can you tell me the aquarium wave fan you used please

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chrissy, 🙂
      it's something called a 'maxijet mod kit', that converted a 1200 lph maxijet aquarium powerhead into a stream style pump, it pushes around 5,000 lph iirc...
      It's something I had left over from an old reef tank, probably nearly 20 years old now lol...
      but any reasonably powerful reef wave style pump should do.
      Just something powerful enough to stop the granules from settling on the bottom so they can dissolve.

    Hi Dave, i am following your advice on this video as i have struggled with skin flukes on one large koi in partcular, for month,s after first dose of lerne pro i still find skin flukes on this particular koi., i am about to re treat , my question is can i use evolution aqua resolve for blanket weed at the same time as using lerne pro. Thanks

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi merczuki,
      It's not advise, it's just sharing the way I chose to treat with Lernex pro last year.🙂
      If it didn't work I would suggest using a different fluke chemical, as Lernex pro didn't work for me this year with gill flukes,
      Knocked them back a bit but didn't kill them all.
      As for dosing resolve at the same time, i'm not a fan of mixing medications.
      Unless you know the outcome....
      Even if it's just a phosphate binder, and the instruction on the aquasource resolve say so, that would be your choice.
      As any chemical binding agent may possibly reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
      Plus resolve takes a long time to work, about 6 weeks in total and two doses for me this year.
      It's a bit late in the season for blanket weed treatments, they work better in the late spring before it gets out of hand...
      if you have a lot and kill it all off, it will make a big mess as it breaks down....

    Hi mate, i don't have a drum, Just 2 moving bed filters and a shower, do you think turn all those off, and just leave the air on to the pond for 20 mins, then turn it all back on ? Im about to do this on saturday after 2 failed treatments of FX1.

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just turned the filter pumps of long enough for the learnex to dissolve in the pond.
      There are a lot of people having problems killing off flukes this year, with different medications working for different people.
      For me after many flukesolve treatments for skin flukes, I didn't see the numbers of flukes per scrape declining at all.
      And most other fluke treatments cloud the water and are easily removed by a drum, so I went with lernex pro and it made a big difference within a week.
      It did find it quite a harsh treatment for one of my fish that didn't take too well to it, though the others were all fine...
      But I suspect it may have ingested some of the few flakes that didn't dissolve, as it tends to root about on the bottom of the pond a lot.
      And as a result ingested an overdose of the treatment and became quite inflamed and ill.

      @@BlingKingMarvellous yes the fish has lost a few mm off the tail, but is much better now.
      If I could reccomend one thing it's buying Duncans book and reading the whole thing cover to cover.
      It's more than just a 'what chemical to use book'...
      It will help guide you in when and how to treat, how to support the fish through treatments, or even how space out treating too often.
      As over medication can be as damaging or worse, especially with oxidising treatments like PP and CT.
      Also finding a good experienced dealer that will help with advise,
      especially when things seem to go wrong one thing after another...

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once only for the first treatment, yes mate. 🙂
      As long as you have experience using it. 👍
      Just to help thin the mucus to allow the treatment to reach the flukes.
      I don't do it more than is absolutely neccessary.
      I'm not a massive fan of PP.
      As I think to do it properly for parasites like Tric you really need a good quality calibrated OPR monitor,
      or experience from watching others do it.
      Anything less is a useless treatment that harms the fish more than parasites.
      Anything more will kill all the fish. 🙂

      @@somersetkoi8309 after 2 x fluke M, 2 x flukesolve, and 2 x flukesolve plus treatments, made absolutely no difference to the skin flukes I treated earlier this year, they just got worse
      going from 1 fluke per 3 slides, to 3 flukes on every slide!
      I nearly lost fish because those treatments were so worthless and ineffective.
      After nearly 2 months of those treatments the fish were crawling with skinflukes and smashing themselves to pieces.
      It was only after finally trying lernex pro it killed them all in one treatment, two days after I couldn't find a single one alive.
      I leave my filters off for 8 hours if treating now, just to maximise the effectiveness so the biological filters don't break it down.

    when did u put second dose of lernex pro in

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว

      My 2nd dose for possible gill flukes, and to make sure I got all the skin flukes, I did after 7 days at 20C.
      But at colder temperatures gill fluke hatch rate is slower so gap can be bigger.
      Also a 25% watch change is reccommended between doses iirc,
      and is needed as I find lernex pro much tougher on the fish than praziquantel based treatments. 🙂

      I understand you can quite often dose much higher with praziquantel,
      That's become popular since Jos Derkin's comments on Koi Talk #007.
      The manufacturers seem to put the minimum dose required in the instructions on some medications.
