    There are few things more loving and special that a parent can do for a child than take the time to restore a heirloom toy that can be enjoyed for years to come. Great job, I'm sure your son will enjoy it.

    Received that set as a Christmas gift 1956 or '57. There were three pieces; the grader, the dump truck, and a steam shovel, all painted orange.

    I do not know what it is about toys and sentiment for me.
    Restoring one which you and your Dad played with, now to be used by your Son; just makes me smile.
    Awesome job and I think my favourite so far in your videos.

    It's nice that you're restoring this to be played with. Toys are meant to be played with.

    I have that exact Nylint grader up on top of my bookshelf, right now, except that mine is yellow. I love the deep-cut tread patterns on the tires. Grandpa didn't let anybody but me take it outside to play with it.

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never seen a yellow one like this. I know the later Nylint's were yellow and the version with a loader on the back, but not the standard road grader. Interesting. Could you post a picture on my website so I can see it? Post it here please in the comments. www.thejunkmanadv.com/the-junk-mans-blog/nylint-michigan-crane

      @@thejunkman You know, I have taken a closer look at it since I posted that comment, and I think it is a later model, after all. The tires aren't as chunky as the tires on the grader in this vid, Beyond that, though, the steel seems to be the same model. I'll see what I can do about a pic; have to admit that I've never posted a picture of ANYTHING, so I'll have to figure out how...

    Nice Job! I have one I need to restore. What is a good spray can paint match for the original Nylint Orange color? Thanks!

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allis Chalmers orange from Van Sickle is a spot on match.

      Thanks for That! I'm having a hell of a time removing the wheels from this model. Where did you purchase replacement Axel Caps? Thanks!

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure where you live, but my local ACE Hardware carries all sizes of these exact style. They also carry the the "hat" style commonly used on other pressed steel toys from various manufacturers.

    What's the name of that graphite product? I have a large Tonka grader I'm working on and that would nice at the plates of the mounting bracket and blade.

    • @thejunkman

      Slip-Plate, it comes in aerosol and brush on varieties.

    For those who do not know: "Gummi Pflege Stift" is German for "Rubber Maintenance Pen"

    • @bwilliams463
      @bwilliams463 6 ปีที่แล้ว
