    I think it's a great job. I like that you left off the white. That never did seem right to me. I love that spray gun system you have. Easy quick clean up. Back in the day when I was painting real cars, we were using siphon type, and were they a pain to clean especially when using catalyzed enamel. Liked to never get it all off. I'm working on a fleetside pickup myself. It's pretty rusty, giving me a rough time. Exactly what were the discs you used to take off the paint and smooth the metal? This truck I'm doing took three tries with stripper, then three tries with caustic soda o get most of the paint off. Still didn't get it all. I've never seen paint so tough to get off. Oh it was pink, by the way, it will not be pink when I finally get around to painting it. I'm thinking red is the way to go, but might do blue, or even some other color, anything but green or pink.

    I had one of those graders - and I don't think it looked as good new as yours does now! My late father worked for many years in Civil Engineering, building motorways, reservoirs, etc. I begged him to get me the grader, even though here in the UK, they were not used very often - levelling usually being done with tractors pulling scraper boxes. Anyway, it turned up on my 8th birthday, along with a bulldozer (my father letting me drive a real one, more than once). It's a great restoration, and brought back many very happy memories. Thank you.

    Great job on the grader. Love all the construction equipment you show in the video. The spray gun adapter is a little pricey for the average guy, used to sell those to body shops. It does work fantastic and very convenient. Keep up the excellent restorations. I love your work.

      Thanks for the kind words. The spray gun system is maybe a little bit of an investment up front. However the lids & liners are less than $1 each. The tips last around 6-7 sprayouts and are less than $1 as well. I find it great to use from a cleanup since it only gets occasional use. Here is the starter pack for example. www.finishsystems.com/collections/3m/products/3m-accuspray-hg-all-in-one-hvlp-spray-gun-package

    I have very fond memories on my Tonka trucks. They were built right and took all the abuse I gave them without ever failing me. Too bad I don't have them any more as we have moved when I turned 17 and my mom decided I was too old for those toys.

    Nice restoration on the graders. I've got an early sixties vintage grader toy here. No name but it was green originally. Had a roof on the cab and a plastic engine (missing now).

    I remember when my parents took me to Toys R Us to get this Tonka grader after a soccer game. There were two variations. One with the black/white decals, and the other with red/blue decals along the side. While red and blue were my favorite colors at the time, I still chose the black/white decals because of the tires. They were rubber and squishy. The red/blue variation had hard plastic tires like all my other trucks and I wanted something new and different. I also thought I would have better traction when steering.

    Wow, that Nylint grader is really something. I don't think we had Nylint here in Canada, because I never heard of them until I got internet in 1999. Here is was Tonka or Buddy L to a much lesser extent. And Ertl for farm toys. That was pretty much it.

    What are the caps called that you cut off from the axels? Hardware store had no idea what is was talking about

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      "push cap nuts" "axle cap nuts" "hat nuts" If you are in the USA, places like ACE, True-Value, Menards, Lowes, Home Depot, and probably other regional stores should have them. The employees are the weak link here.

    To get a deeper cut with the Tonka blade, set one side up a notch or two to tilt the blade. The far tip of the blade will then cut lower, and camber the road grade!
