I am so happy to get my $100 every other month 😂 I only make content when I have time, but my real life job as a nurse practitioner will never be replaced by any social media. I don’t know how people were actually expecting to have social media as their savior or only income. It isn’t even realistic

Social media is just like another big brand chain like a McDonald’s or Walmart. It’s everywhere now and saturated, so the pay gets lowered to compensate for everyone’s piece of the pie. The same can be applied to the music industry today and recording artists and producers alike are getting Pennie’s while the major labels are raking in the big checks for the CEO’s and corporate office.

Nothing against church…ijs see it as a community of like minded folk for support…I don’t see church as my line to god or salvation because the truth and the god is within ME…. and if you ain’t getting no support but prayers in your once of a lifetime of need…find a better church.

This is a supply and demand issue. There is more supply for the companies of content creators, meaning less demand for them to pay us.

I work in selling to chief marketing officers & marketing departments. The marketing budgets at major companies have been utterly slashed since the interest rates went up. No marketing budget means they aren't spending as much in ads and sponsorships. That is why infleuncers aren't getting paid as they do. If inflation is able to get back to control & interest rates get slashed, their marketing budgets will go back up and content creators will see that in their own revenue. 😊

Even a low paying company will not hire u and have u put in thousands of hrs and pray u get paid. but youtube has fooled people to think being called content creator feels better than who we really r which is employees. So now many r working for free.hioing to get paid while many wmr getting paid who have rubbish content. Thanks to the algorithm which was written by man. Now everyone cannot get paid. My costs to feature on that platform nor my commission costs have gone down, of course! And traffics is down by over /around up to 60%! I have never made so little money. It makes sense. It is causing me to make major moves- but not fast enough. It is also causing me to realign my value position, which I should have done a long time ago- bc I am not Walmart and trying to compete on price was never the way and only made me resentful at people and burned out.- Anyway- thanks for this info and here's hoping my approach will result in survivable income until I get back in the regular work world.

When you’re purpose driven do you go to the grocery stores to buy a grocery with purpose; isn’t still the money you make from being purpose driven you spend on the grocery stores?
Just stop being insensitive, she’s talking the business side of purpose, learn how to hear people and stop being judgmental.

Social media marketing /influencer was one major change and also Celebrity. I feel like that is why we are getting so many tours. The only constant is change. The reality is that a lot of people's channels tanked when they tried to transition into becoming "lifestyle" influencers. People are starting to realize that they aren't nearly as important or interesting as they thought they were. Everyone is not a star nor does everyone posses a star quality. Adding actual value to your audiences by enriching them with the information/tools/skills they need to accomplish whatever it is you are an expert in will never go out of style. Everyone won't be Alliyiahs face and that Breanna girl. Is what it is. Also, too many people trying to exist in the lifestyle sphere. If everyone's an influencer then whose left to be influenced..?

Dear heart, thank you! I've been seeing videos similar to this all over youtube, but without your candor and honesty. Thank you. I had been thinking of starting a channel for a few years now. Part of me was attracted to and repelled by the money angle. Part of me was truly nervous about putting myself out there for jackasses to harass. Part of me just wanted to have fun with it and screw the monetary stuff. It's funny, but now that the monetary pressure is pretty much off, I finally feel inspired to do my channel for ME.
One thing any newbies need to keep in mind is that the gig economy (including youtube, uber eats, door dash, instagram, etc) was really only going to flourish during something like what happened with the pandemic. People were locked down, isolated, and in need of help and some sort of human-ish contact. Some of us made scads of money just delivering food! Others made videos that gave people a vicarious thrill (all the lifestyle/vanlife/etc stuff). Once people didn't need us anymore, the money stopped coming. My suggestion is similar to Nicole's, do it because you love it. There might be money in it, there might not. Maybe use it to promote your own creative business (that's what I'll be doing ... eventually ... if I ever get off my arse). I've seen several youtubers do this. Do not depend upon something as ephemeral as social media to support you. You'll be the flavour of the month, swimming in quick cash, only to have it all disappear when the public finds a new obsession.

Not necessarily. TH-cam doesn’t use a pot system like TikTok. I won the TH-cam black award in 2020 and got to speak directly with some TH-cam employees. And they said revenue is all about the companies paying for ads. When social media in general is doing good, when people are actually buying from ads they see online, then you get paid more. Thats why December is always a profitable month for creators. But when there’s a recession, everyone’s broke/ trying to build savings, people are fed up with seeing ads online and quickly skip them, then the pay is less. It’s just about the time we’re in currently. It’s an ad hating period because everyone’s rightfully fed up of being pushed ads or ugc on EVERY single platform

Orwell failed to predict just how compliant we would be…not just installing our own systems of surveillance, but welcoming them in and call them cute names like Alexa.
To top it off, Orwell could’ve never foreseen that people would start voluntarily enrolling on Big Brother’s payroll and fight over attention, ad revenue and likes/views/clicks/subscribes.

If the pie remains at $1,000,000, but there is now 100,000 content creators, TH-cam can only afford to pay each creator $10. Bottom line, the content creator market has become saturated.

The reason is simple. The new Indian CEO of TH-cam who took over made those economic changes. The previous CEO the lady was striking channels and shadow banning. It is not that the money is not there. It is that they are trying to get users to TH-cam TV. Now the new guy seems to attempt to get more money from Ads without the creators getting a cut.

I was hooked by the number of creators on TH-cam parading their lucrative payouts. I actually thought there was a new Industrial Revolution where the jobs lost to digitization of Labour-based processes would be replaced by creator platforms, as traditional jobs began to wane. I even took a course on creating video content, but procrastinated as I realized I did not have content-meaning I am not a creator. But as I was procrastinating during 2023 the reports of collapsing payouts began to emerge. This video and several others on the platform identify the problem. Perhaps the issue now is that the over-hyping of lucrative payouts has led to the over-supply of creators and videos beyond the limit of existing corporate ad-budgets? Or are platform operators simply maximizing their profits?

I think people are just having influencer fatigue. There for sponsors and adds are not paying as much and that trickles to you.
I also believe this is the case for the sponsors and companies advertising. The more influencers get investigated the more purchased subscribers and views get exposed. Making them wonder if it is worth it since TH-cam, twitter, and Instagram do absolutely nothing to police that.

Thank you for sharing. I think it’s part of a broader problem happening in the economy and it’s because interest rates are the highest they’ve ever been. The squeeze you’re feeling is being felt in multiple industries. Even in nursing people are quitting in droves because the money isn’t quite worth the effort of handling a facility with overstocked patient beds. Hollywood has way less projects now than ever before. Something is on the horizon

    Fascinating and really well presented.
As with all businesses it is the marketplace. More dreamers/planners of making money on TH-cam enter the market place.
(Maybe after doing your course even)
Viewers spread more thinly - TH-cam can also say hey we have so many creators that we can pay less and still have loads.

The algorithm right now makes it way easier for small channels then it used to be, which isnt good for long term because the moment people dont care about the content of a channel the ones they care about show up which makes channels like yours dissapear. It doesnt matter anymore if you have 5K subs or 1 million. Its also why so many people are selling 'products' online.

Love this video Nicole I haven't seen anyone else be clear and honest about this topic. I agree with you it's not the same, not a lot of money from ad rev. The economy is down and TH-cam is a company that has money but has been affected to a degree. I think TH-cam will eventually change the qualifications to be monetized making it more difficult so that the creators that are partners can benefit from ad rev. One thing that would have improved this video is if you changed your location, a background change is always nice so from the couch to the kitchen as you're making something, to the balcony etc..
