  • How to Heal from Trauma
    In this video, I'll be giving a simple two step process for letting go of and healing from traumatic experiences. Many times, when trying to heal complexes, traumas, and neuroses we intellectually understand what causes it but we can't seem to get rid of it. This addresses trauma directly on an emotional level by focusing our awareness on the sensations in our body relative to the emotion we're experiencing right now. Remember, the power is in your hands to heal your own trauma.

      @@QuinnCFree Reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed, be as still as possible and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Day or night before sleep sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

    If the trauma took place during first 7 years of our lives it sure comes from out caregivers. Then we must reparent ourselves, heal our inner children and practice serious self care. My life has changed since I learned and integrated my true self and accepted myself unconditionally. I have found a very knowledgeable psychologist/therapist who showed my the road to healing and provided me with the tools to integrated my shadow and love myself just the way I am. Also owning my character “defects” and changing what it does not serve me well and therefore others. Healing is truly a journey.

    I am certain that my trauma was indeed caused by a mother who alternately neglected or abused all her children and then attempted to blame the children for her actions. Tough to overcome. I think I will always cringe every time I hear that I chose, attracted or created something all in my own mind. External factors are the causation.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      I'm not saying that it wasn't the catalyst for the trauma or that you somehow attracted it to you. What I am saying is that the trauma always occurs internally. So, even if it's catalyzed by external events, there is an internal process (of thoughts and emotions) at work which actually creates the trauma. Many people miss this, so it makes them feel like the issue is external and thus out of their control. But even if the catalyst was external, the trauma creation all happened internally. So, it is actually completely in our power to process through the trauma, as it is wholly internally contained and internally created. What I'm not saying, however, is that it was your fault or that the external situation had nothing to do with the problem.

    • @margottfon330
      @margottfon330 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TheDiamondNet🤨 yes, ppl have power to process through the trauma, if they are not given the word salad, such as the trauma is internally created, but then... 'I didn't mean there was no external cause', but.. but.., it's not something that you can't..., you should....because that's how YOU reacted...hmm... Should ppl be thanking you for letting them know that the trauma is inside of a traumatized only, but not inside the perpetrators ?!? 🤣 They know.
      Limiting beliefs??? No, limited belief that you had trauma. For God's sake kid, somebody laughed at you!?!? That's trauma!? No, and yes in your case something was wrong with you. That's not the basis to claim the same is the case for others, and post-traumatic disorder ISN'T the same as traumatized person.
      P.S. or nothing ever happened to you at all, just a "trauma survival". Why not? So many are indeed thanking you, ....smarter ones won't, you'll see..

    I think most people here don't really understand what you mean by "Become aware of your emotions and bodily sensations". Seems like they think that you mean "think about your emotions and/or the triggering event and cognitively understand why you're triggered". However I assume what you mean is that we should become aware and physically "feel" our emotions without judging them/becoming identified with them until they run their course and transform into relief. Trauma is frozen/exiled emotion after all, and all it needs is to be felt and resolved. I too highly recommend the book "The Body Keeps the Score" by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk to those who suffer from PTSD or know someone who has PTSD. Thank you for this video, great job! Keep it up please, lots of love from Istanbul

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! And yes, that is what I mean. I've noticed some tendency to misinterpret too. I don't mean to focus intellectually on the mental phenomenon related to the emotion. In fact, that can be a bit of a double edged sword, especially once a person has gotten to a certain level of intellectual understanding relative to the problem. I mean to focus directly on the sensations within the body so that they can be processed. It is not widely known that emotions have both a physical and mental aspect to them. So, we often bypass the physical aspect of emotions and jump right into the mental "thought stories" aspect of emotions. So, the emotion never gets processed and stays there in the nervous system. So, focusing on the physical aspect of emotions helps to resolve them so that the sensations aren't hanging around in the body demanding our attention. Sort of like checking the emotional email so that the body knows that you've gotten the message that it's trying to send you via the wisdom of the body.

    I have come to learn that we can trust our emotions. If we give them validity and examine them to see what it is they are telling us they can be very useful. The worst thing we can do is to repress our emotions. Usually when we come to understand why we are experiencing a particular emotion that awareness in itself will bring healing. I have learned that it is just as important to empathize with ourself as it is to empathize with others. Have you read the Desidarata? I like that poem there is a line in it that says, "beyond a wholesome discipline be gentle with yourself." I think that says a lot. I'm commenting on a lot of your videos all at once so don't feel compelled to answer each one unless you actually want to of course. I'm really enjoying the videos. • @rappatenebrense
      @rappatenebrense 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its all about the perspective of the person experiencing something, not about how you see the experience from your perspective today. Funny enough, even though being picked as a kid may seem like no big deal it may leave an emotional imprint that has a more severe impact on one's life than something like a near death experience. Its all about how the person going thru it felt, and how they processed it(or not).

In my own interpretation this means not blocking them out (i think these are the barriers that you explained) and at the same time don't get caught into them and make them stay longer than necessary (these might be the thoughts you explained that keep coming up). Just, as you said, observe the feelings and they will go away in away in a healthy manner, they will pass through. They won't be ignored and you won't keep on being bothered by them.
    Thanks for the video, keep it up!

    I know one thing, if you dont have a good relationship with you dad as a girl, it effects relationships with a man later in life. My dad was unfaithful to my mom throughout their marriage. And I believe its difinitly affected my trust of men. And I keep a guard up in my heart. Its terrible, but I cope. Im 62 and been married 40 yrs. But I credit that only to the fact that my husband and I are both christians. If not for that we would have never made it.

    I disagree with your claim that no external source can be a source of trauma. In attachment theory, infants/humans are born with the innate nature to need to be emotionally attached to a primary caregiver; I digress, as infants we are not per say conscious of ourselves or of our internal experience, it is our attachment figures who lay the groundwork of how we feel, think, and behave later in life, and then adapt as such. Disorganized attachment is the breakdown of attachment, infants become confused of who they are because their caregiver did not properly attune to the emotional needs of the child, who is only perceiving their feelings and comfort from the parent/caregiver. This is a form of trauma that is caused from an external source, which I myself have had to get over via earned security. Regardless, this is a great video!!

      As neurobiology continues to unfold with brain imaging, I expect that we will have a better answer for this. There is some possible truth in what she says. Albert Ellis wondered why two people going through the same experience would have different outcomes with all things being equal. Having been raised by a mother who appears to have either borderline or narcissistic personality disorder, however, it's difficult for me to say that no external source can be a source of trauma.

      It is true that we all have needs. So, being deprived of those needs will create a trauma. But the trauma is not directly caused by the external event or lack there-of. The trauma (as well as the resulting repressions, complexes, and neuroses) are created internally by unconscious mechanisms in response to those events. So, I'm not saying that external events have no role in creating the trauma. Rather, I'm saying that we often think that the way things go is "external problem>internal problems" when it really goes "external problem>internal protection mechanisms>lack of emotional processing due to said protections mechanisms>internal problems." So, it is not the external problem that creates our problem directly. It is the internal protections mechanisms that we create that result in our inability to process our emotions. So, to understand this, puts the power back in everyone's hands to internally resolve the emotions and to disassemble the inner protection mechanisms that are now unnecessary. As opposed to thinking, "Oh well, I didn't get the healthy attachment to a primary caregiver as an infant, so I guess I'm permanently damaged because I can never meet that external need." When we realize that all trauma is created internally, then we realize that we have the power in our hands to reintegrate and become whole no matter what happens to us... or doesn't happen to us for that matter.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +PIEPIE This is really great that you've thought this through so thoroughly. I thought of the analogy with the light bulb too and the fact that the ducks shake themselves off after a confrontation with another duck or predator, and it really rings true to me that so much our trauma occurs physically. And this is why the field of psychology, in its present mainstream state, is primarily focused toward coping and not actually healing. We haven't begun to explore the connection between the mind aspect of emotions and the body aspect of emotions as a society. We mostly are focused toward the brain/mind. I'm very impressed with how thorough that you've been in your exploration. I'm sure that you will be able to reintegrate fully and heal your wounds if you continue with your inner work. Best of luck on your journey! :)

    Thanks, this is really good vid.
    Just wanted to add, sometimes it doesn't matter what your perception of an event is, you can still be traumatized by it. Examples: Physical abuse: If the abuse reaches a certain intensity, the normal processing of the mind / emotions / body won't be able to handle it, and the trauma will get rerouted and stored in the fascia (connective tissue) of the body. Deep breathing, tapping, emdr, somatic work can help release this later in a safe environment. Another example is prolonged and covert neglect. I child may have a narcisist parent that is there and says I love you and seems to do all the right things. The child will perceive that everything is ok, but will have an emptiness inside that grows. Over time, the emptiness will overwhelm the child. This overwhelms the senses, and again can't be handled by normal processing ability and will be stored in the body. The body is like the emergency backup system when things get way too intense. It's not supposed to hold onto this energy, but just emergency backup when it gets way to much to handle. This is the basis for ptsd / cptsd. That's why body is so important when looking at healing both.

      Happy New Year! This is a great point. Emotions don't necessarily need a mental interpretation to be traumatic. Recently, on a forum that I follow, someone was wondering if children were traumatized by their interpretation of sexual abuse (given no physical harm was done) or if by the abuse itself. I wrote back to them, that the interpretation is not actually what's traumatic though it could compound the trauma. It's simply that children are not emotionally developed enough to handle those types of emotions. Just like, if you have a 50 watt light bulb but you try to put 100 watts of electricity in it, the light bulb will become overwhelmed by the electricity. So, it's an actual physical thing. The trauma stores itself in the body, and has little to do with interpretation.

      Great example with the light bulb. That makes a lot of sense. If you put too many watts into a light bulb (more than it is designed to handle) it breaks. The mind / heart of a person is the same way, but we have a protection against breaking, which is that the body holds the trauma (excess energy) for later processing. Person will have neurosis / repetition compulsion, until they can release it in a healthy / supportive setting.

    Bless you!!..fresh.. a different point of view from everything I found out around on the topic, maybe a little bit generalistic but you clearly state about a healing system/way to come out from those situations eventually by our own. This is really spreading hope to those that even being willing of help are not getting what they need specifically because the system is in "cut costs mode" or because there is not sufficiently spread awareness around the CPTSD.. what to do when you are left alone to deal with this? you here gave great hints to motivate this self-healing and understanding to cope with the external insufficiencies of the care system! BLESS YOU!

      There are two levels on which traumas sustain themselves: 1. Intellectually - We have unconscious or conscious beliefs that allow for traumas to sustain themselves upon and even multiply themselves on. 2. Physically - Emotions store themselves in the central nervous system as a physical reality. In order to process through them, you should focus on the body sensation associated with the emotions with full awareness and without the mind pulling your attention away from the sensation. You can also "breathe into" the spot where you feel the emotional discomfort. You will feel subtle physical changes whenever you do this process. So much of our trauma is actual physical trauma from emotions that we weren't able to process through.

      @@TheDiamondNet Maybe you need to update from Carl Jung. I personally like Jung. More has been learned about the brain in the last 30 years than most likely all of our history. "So much of our trauma is actual physical trauma from emotions that we weren't able to process through". No. According to modern day science emotional and physical pain are both connect to the same neurons in our brain. There is no physical trauma from our emotions. There can be physical pain which actually is emotional pain that is felt physically. Relieve the emotional pain and the physical pain goes bye bye. Neuroscience is cool maybe you should check it out.

      @Krishna Patel it's good that you're aware of this, very good in fact. I'm going through the same exact thing, follow through the video, never ever talk negative to yourself, always be and stay in high and upbeat vibrations. Choose a place where people make you feel happy and important. This isn't your fault, I'm from India too and it's pretty common for Indian parents to behave this way and make us believe we re never good enough for something. Guess what. We will never be able to fill in their needs. So just stop trying to please them. Do what makes you happy and makes you feel like you're always from a good place. Also, try to break through your comfort zone and do the opposite of what you've pictured yourself as. If you give a negative self talk saying "oh I'm just so dumb and stupid" ask yourself why that is. After you've got the answer, try to do the opposite. Actions such as breaking through your comfort zone might be difficult at first. But after you've lured yourself into that place, you can be satisfied and proud. And always, always, be proud of the little actions you do. You're healing. Its okay to breakdown. Its not at all your fault. You'll be a much better person for yourself and the people around you. Try explaining to someone what you're going through. Most people will understand and help you through. They aren't all bad. Take care!❤

    I went through severe trauma being physically , emotionally abused by my mother and being placed in foster care for 6 years being placed with a family for one year being told they would be my parents and then being ripped from that family and being placed with another foster family that showed me no love and provided the basics . I'm not sure how I made it but I delved into eastern philosophy and really looked within myself . I very rarely get panic or attacks and am free from depression . I still deal with the feeling of never feeling good enough and feeling stupid . I have always attracted angry aggressive partners or emotionally unavailable like my mother . I am a single mother to my daughter and have given up on relationships until I do more work on myself. Even though I bought my own house and works hard as I could I still struggle that I'm not enough . I wish I could come to terms and accept myself . Easier said than done . I always get in capital letters that I need to accept the situation and myself and accept my mother as wishing someone to change is just being in denial . Sending my love to everyone that is hurting x
    I read I one of my psychology reports when I was a kid that I don't like feeling negative thoughts about people that I always like to see the positive which can have a flip side as to not feeling good enough that I am the problem

It’s possibly the best scientific exploration of the underlying mechanisms of traumatic memories and experiences, I highly recommend it in case you’ve got the time to read it, mind-blowing stuff based on this guy’s several decades’ worth of research and experience with thousands of traumatized people. It might also lead you to change some of the ideas you present in the video as well as shed new light on others.

    Outside influences does cause trauma even if it's inside your mind that process it. It's what happens afterwards that helps you heal or not or if it turns into ptsd or a trauma. You need love and support from somewhere afterwards!

      The trauma is created internally. But the triggers for the internal trauma reaction are often external. This is important to realize that the trauma reaction is self-contained within the body/mind complex. It's not to say that external situations don't play a role. They clearly do. But the trauma reaction is latent in the body/mind system already. It just gets triggered from the outside, but all of the stuff that causes trauma is on the inside as trauma exists tangibly and directly in the form of thoughts and emotions. This means that the power to resolve the trauma is also inside of one's self, and requires no external situation to be a certain way to resolve the trauma.

      The Diamond Net the cause is the external impact. Your internal response is a defense mechanism (how you deal with that negative experience), a reaction. The CAUSE is the external. Without it, there is nothing that “triggers” your flight, fight or freeze senses. The external is also very important for many people in helping to heal trauma. There are different ways/modes to heal.

    Okay peopllle what she meant by saying that traumatic experiences are not triggered by external occurrences is that it is not directly the fault of the external occurrence for your reaction. Different people react different ways to certain situations; some ignore it and others react strongly to it. Certain situations like lack infancy attachment would probably be traumatic in a certain way for almost everyone. It is true that inside of us there are certain habitual reactions to things based on our beliefs and just plain old human nature. So for everyone certain situations can become traumatic based on their emotional and mental wiring that makes them who they are. In my opinion it's almost a reflex to react in certain ways to certain situations, like how she said she was traumatized as a child because of how sensitive she was.

    Love your videos. This one I struggle with being that I have a chronic pain disease that is caused from a build up of trauma. Its called crps and came from a friggin sprained ankle. It's a situation with the nervous system becoming stuck. I've had it 3.5 years. It can spread and many end up in a wheelchair. I want to believe I can heal. I really do. The medical condition is said to have no cure. I had just had a major fibroid surgery before falling. 11 hour surgery and it was truly horrible having flashbacks of being molested and raped coming out of anesthesia. Also tryingbtonsit still in recovery for the first time in my life. I've been working so hard to work on myself hoping it will help my leg. Crps spread from my ankle to my hip. At night I feel it in both legs. Feels like I'm being crushed under a car when it's just the covers on the bed. I've been trying to break pattern of victimization for years. Always learning. Just wanted to give a shout out for those of us suffering from CRPS / RSD and fibromyalgia. These are very real things that seem to happen when our trauma isn't dealt with earlier in life. Get it people! I'm 47 now and I am determined not to end up in a wheelchair atleast. Much love

The neurosurgeon removed a malignant tumor the size of a grape and my cognitive abilities improved across the board. Some trauma can leave physical damage impairing the brain's ability to form and change beliefs. The concussion did not cause the tumor but investigating the concussive damage ended with the discovery and removal of a tumor.

I often help people heal their traumas in one session, and occasionally they heal more than one trauma in one session. Although, some people do the same in a couple of minutes by doing what you described - just focusing on emotions and sensations.

    My trauma effected me differently it made me feel my emotions so strong is scares me ... someone can say something bad to me and I just blow up and yell at them ... then after I’d regret it so much and get so depressed ... when I was a kid I word cry but when I entered middle and high school it became angry and rage ... I was bullied so much as a kid that it made me feel like I was worthless ... that I was nothing and didn’t deserve to be happy ... I was the perfect target overweight with a bad overbite and long hair ... I was also gay but I didn’t know yet but the other boys could tell I was different from them,.. and they made ...used me ... promised friendship in exchange doing what they like ... even when they picked on me they were Abel to manipulate me to do stuff for them ... didn’t help the whole school made a game about me... they called it the Eric touch ... it was just like the cheese touch ... except I was the cheese I could spread it but couldn’t pass it on ... then when I realize I was gay in early middle school... everything
    Went dark ... My grades suffered my friends the few I had I pushed away I was scared people word know now that I knew but they already knew they always knew and they figured it out and rumors started ...and they made me scared everyday I was scared I’d be jumped everyday I thought I was going die ... it got so bad I stopped being afraid to die ...i felt trapped in the closet I never left my room I was scarred to let my family near me ... and now I’m 19 and came out to my family they support me ... I should be happy now ... but I’m not

    this is an excellent video! I'm impressed. However, I can see why some of the commenters don't like the idea that they constructed their own trauma. It is a bit like, someone hits you and yes, your own body creates the welts and scars.. but still, the external event triggered the body's response. In any event, you have put together an excellent set of ideas. I like the idea that excessive ptsd-style triggering can gradually dissolve over time by being aware of beliefs and emotions, this is my experience. But it is important to never forget that some people will hurt you, and to protect yourself. It would be good if you could add your sources (even if only for further reading).
