In 2014 I was 15/16 and got into Thee oh sees. By this point i had been playing guitar for a few years and had done all my "required" music listening, but hadn't really gotten into many contemporary acts. John blew my mind and turned my world upside down. I had been recording a little bit of music at that point but once i saw Thee oh sees I knew i had to buckle down and do it. 6 years later and nothing has changed.
@@fabybabyis that what they’re saying?! I’ve been screaming “this is the thing we call life!” For years and years and years since I first saw this and every time I watch it. 😂

Brigid Dawson is a goddess which makes the rest of the genius complete! Wish they could return to this line-up....future music history....Pixies of the current age...
+clutch350 Drummer says to himself "...keep it together dude...no one here is turning into a velociraptor...they're just friendly turtles with flowers for eyes....it's ok man...keep it together."

There’s something elemental about this track and this particular performance. Thank god for the internet - I love the anarchic drive of this whole unit.
I had a dream, a dream I said A bloody dream in which I said: "I'm not dead, oh dead" I lie awake until I sleep, I see the sky tear, and then it weeps. I was scared. So scared. The dream, it seems, is peeking, into real life. The sun can't burn, the dream, from my eyes. The dream, seeking, peeking, real life.
Saw these guys last night!! when they played this song last night I went berserk!!! And meeting John Dwyer in the bathroom as he was coming out of the stall i was waiting to get into to use was pretty awesome lol! such a cool dude! Great Band!
No you're right it's a jazzmaster. They look quite different (3 jaguar style pick ups on the VI, four switches on one panel and a slightly different body shape) I'm tired of the number of people who try to look like gear nerds but can't tell a jazzmaster and a bass VI apart.
a band that makes kids want to go out and make their own band. john and & co will forever hold a very special place in my heart.
lets make a band
King gizzard & the lizard wizard has honestly been my biggest inspiration to make my own band 🥁🎸

Most certainly - more than ty segall, gizz, ORB, or even the white stripes.
@@aidan8728 and they were totally inspired by Thee Oh Sees.... the circle continues. Good luck with your band!!!
Saw these guys 5 times in Chicago. First time was 2012 at Empty Bottle. Took a girl on our first date to see them. We now have a kid. Power of music.
Did the music impregnate her?
First time I saw them was at the empty bottle in Chicago but in 2014
epic, best regards to you and your family.
I watch this performance twice a day... for some reason I can't get enough of it.
Ander TGA I'm not the only one! There's so much energy and kick-ass-ness in all of their performances, and this is the best example of it!
John Crowe Couldn't have said it better!
Ander TGA Been watching everyday for the last month...I shower less than I watch this video :)
I saw them do this live holy hell it was amazing!
+Ander TGA Yeah. This is my homepage.
I love how John, Petey and Brigid all look like they're having a great time and Mike looks scared for his life.
My face everyday
He looked like that most of the time. that was just his drum face.
@@julianelorduy8273 probably LSD, you can see he looks at John a few times like “that’s not a human anymore”
@@drearynonsense203 lmaooo
He's still out there doing his part, whatta trooper
It was unreal to experience how chill John was off-stage cause he's always halfway to rabies when he's on it.
2012 was a simpler time: We could actually lick and partially swallow the microphone.
i still lick the microphones to this day, makes you tougher..
OH my god man these comments about the drummer are cracking me up!!!!
I miss this lineup. ‘‘Twas the best. Pete Dammit, Bridget, and Bill Hader’s brother on drums
He doesn’t look like Bill hader in this vid but that’s all I think of when I see him in the Minotaur video
It was easily the best. Glad I caught them then.
Wish I had!
i love the personalities of each member of the band. so unique.
2:08 Drummer is like: is that the same guy I came here with?
2:35 Yes, that's him.
Hahaha, dude, I laughed so hard.
Hahahahaha
ha
lmfao
The guy at 1:50 is so pumped that he gives awkward double fist pumps, and who can really blame him?
+Made In Network lmao that was so rad...haha
That's White Francis you should check out his band White Mystery. Brother and sister duo. good rock n roll
Heck yes! That's some damn good rock 'n' roll!
Blake Henderson right there...
Going to go see them in November with Roky Erickson, man will that be an awesome show.
Several times a year I watch this video and Contraption/Soul Desert. I think I may even prefer these to the album versions. Legit 🔥
this is a thing we call love !

The drum beat is so simple, but the drummer looks like it hurts. My conclusion: he is tripping mad ballz.
If so I wouldn't understand how he's doing it. I tried playing my guitar on acid once. It was the most challenging thing I've ever done.
Abel Ramirez
I'm good at drums when I'm fucked up. There is a difference between sticks and strings.
Well that's definitely true.
holding down a simple beat in the pocket without fucking up is harder then it looks
This groove , with the kick on the "and" needs a lot concentration , you can't really moving your body ^^
drummer looks like he was thinking about his ex the whole time
this is the best one
jonathan "that fucking bitch!"
JAJAJAJAJA
he's more like "if you stop playing you die"
it was just the LSD
Brigid Dawson is a goddess which makes the rest of the genius complete! Wish they could return to this line-up....future music history....Pixies of the current age...
you nailed it
4:54 through a telling glance we see the drummer's realisation "I need help getting off drugs. Maybe John can help me"
Löl
Pitchfork Music Festival 2012 had so many great acts. Must have been a blast!
and still the best live band in the world bar none, Hail Dwyer!
To the man on the far left at 1:50, please never stop.
I fucking luv him lmao
I have a strong belief that the universe would have imploded if that guy didn't stand there at that exact moment.
The drummer looks like he's being held against his will.
+Evan Saltare haha nah hes having a bad acid trip.

Best and original line up. Man these guys cooked hard!!! Just awesome!!
Saw them live, what an experience. They are so good, raw, crazy, funny, kind people - and fucking tireless.
This is such an incredible performance. Amazing! Plus, I cannot even come close to getting enough of Brigid Dawson. What a great rock and roll moment.
This is an amazing live performance. Gives me chills every time....
DIG IN !!!
I used to play along to this one by shaking two uncle ben's rice boxes and dancing around the living room.
We should appreciate the courage of the second guitarist. Not everyone with Parkinsons could play a show like that.
Hugo Remmen new tat
he's probably on fucking meth
That’s a six string bass, but yes you’re right 😂
Nope, jazzmaster with effects
baritone guitar
this is my coffee in the morning
Once you hear this shit you can't wake up anymore if not hearing this shit.
i miss this lineup... fond memories
I love this. Always make up the chorus part when I sing.
1:50 to the left = hypeman of the decade
It's like the drummer is afraid of horses and there happens to be one at the front of the stage
the drummer looks like he's hungover and going to puke at any moment.
Gettin it dun
I truly admire the amount of energy these guys have
Best performance of this song. Astounding. I can't imagine who dislike this.
idk. i feel like the kexp one was even better. john wore basically the same outfit too hahaha
Endless Daze 2017 version has entered the chat
My favorite era of the OH SEES!
They need to play a show at a mental institute like The Cramps did back in the day.
This was the best lineup!
Plaid shirt guitarist is awesome, he gets it hahaha
What a performance!, I love a band when they put out 100%. I have two of their albums, gotta get some more, they have quite a catalogue of music.
all hail the Dwyer
That see-through SG is too fuckin sick.
it looks like a travis bean due to that t shape on the headstock..but it might be an off brand...
Jack Mcwhat it's an electrical guitar company custom. currently saving up for one. heavy as fuck though

Those of you that think the drummer is in distress aren’t drummers. He’s coming the entire song.

So excited to see them in San Diego in TWO WEEKS!

contraption/soul desert, live in Brazil 2018
This performance is magical
Never ever gets old.
This is my favorite song to watch them do live.
Ramsay Bolton is torturing that guitar pretty hard.
Hahahahaha
I like the quick cut multiple perspective editing of this Pitchfork clip. It is like being there, I never know where to look when I see them!
FOCKING EPIC INSANE TRACK MYTHICAL LEGEND
The happiest drummer alive.
Shit I fucking love this band!
They were amazing. They are coming to Chicago in Sept with Ty Segall. Yes, the guy in the red shirt at 1:49 is pretty great too!
Weird... I just watched a video about Jake's clear custom SG from Jeff the Brotherhood. I did not realize John had one too.
This should be the album version
Amazing energy!

AWESOME!!!! Im into Death Metal usually but this is fukkin great.
you still virgin?
is that dude playing bass with his guitar
regular guitar but heavily tuned. dont know with what though
He plays guitar with an octave pedal to a bass amp.
May that is a fender/squier vintage modified 6 strings bass i think. Exists.
+péter szarka No, it's a regular Jazzmaster with an octave pedal to a bass amp.
+Otso Pänttönen yeah its definetly not a 6 string bass
i wanna see them lives, what an energy mann...
this guy is a natural born chaos master, Is that jag being made a bass?
Jazzmaster and if I’m remembering correctly it’s an octave pedal with a bass amp
this comment section always gets me , its been years
I miss this lineup :(
This is the best video on youtube.
Just about my favorite song to run to.
1:49 the guy in red shirt!
I wish I was friends with that red headed dude grooving out back there.
We all do
The red headed dude is John's boyfriend.
perfect
I'm pretty sure that's Francis Scott Key White of White Mystery in the red shirt.
phenomenal performance....
the best version of this song!
They've dropped great albums afterwards but this line-up is their best, hands down. Why did they ever changed it?
Because life is change. I agree with you. Magic was made with this squad.
Just getting into these guys. Which records did this line-up produce?
Adam Blanco 2nd one till Floating Coffin
Toasters This is the exact band that did Sucks Blood?
