I think there is far too many people in the Burger/Fast Food market and people can barely afford to eat out these days which means unfortunately not a lot of these joints will survive especially at the prices most of them charge.
a few years back in the 10's a number of premium burger joints opened in the inner Sydney area and failed. It's nothing new just that franchises take longer to give up their price gouging ways
@liam1258 Yes, the smaller portion sizes are only for health reasons to reduce obesity. High prices mean people will also buy less junk food (like a business applied "fat tax") 👍😀 Their dedication to the benefit of society is admirable!
Mos burger in Japan is awesome quality and heaps cheaper than Australia. I’m afraid in Oz customer service and pride in ones work is not in the same league.
I still remember Mains road being one lane only each way and after the railway bridge beside the Altantdi station it was a dirt road. How things have changed. Where that shopping centre is was all custard apple farms. On the other side of the road, there was an enormous tree and a fruit stall behind which were farm crops. When they removed it the created what we called the red hill. They had dug an enormous area of ground, that became the underground carpark and piled the dirt into our hill. The entire place became the best place to ride your bikes out. I still remember also playing bike tiggy at Market Square when the shops had closed. They had the best fish and chips shop too. God I miss those days.
Companies have three choices: 1. Food is SO great people will pay the high prices. 2. Cut your profit margins and make food affordable/great value. 3. Shut down. Option 3 seems to be the preferred choice 😂
Many more will go, and I say this as an ex-district manager in the Aus fast food industry. Operation costs are WAY up, the customer base post-COVID is much worse in that harassment is more common now and a lot have shifted to prefer delivery over in-store service leaving the reputation of your business in the hands of an uber driver. You'd have to be a masochist to open a restaurant in Australia now, very high risk and very low reward. The government is either out of touch or actively hostile when it comes to the hospitality industry and small business ownership
Almost as hostile as the owners who regularly and systematically underpay staff - it's part of their business model. MOS were done for underpaying Australians
Honestly, gen Z workers treat customers with disdain, I prefer to cook at home then to pay the prices asked for, to receive slapped together food and service from a worker who thinks your an inconvenience for coming to their store.
The fact that diners are forced to use those shitty touch screens to order food instead of giving their order to a real human probably has something to do with the decline of in-store visitors too.
Can't say I ever heard about this place, but to me, the best burgers come from independent fish and chip shops. I am glad you do the rounds and show us these other options though 😊
I used to live on Bridge Road, in Richmond, Melbourne and my nickname for it was "the restaurant graveyard" because I lost count of how many food outlets (including burger joints) I saw come and go during the 11 years I lived there. Only strong multinationals like Macca's, HJs, KFC and Dominos survive.

@@paulb5680 haha most are not making any money, that’s why they close, selling a burger for $15 they would be lucky to make $3-5 on the burger, then it $20-35 wages per person per hour, insurance, $700 plus rent a week, hundreds in deep fryer maintenance (oil changes), $40-100 electricity per day, hundreds in grease trap clean outs etc. now work out how many burgers a day you need to sell. It’s almost impossible to make a $$. I had a burger shop for three years, most weekdays you work all day and make nothing, the only people making money is your staff, some days you don’t cover expenses then you try and make up for it on week ends, if it rains or bad weather you might as well stay closed as you will end up being down $200-400 for the day that you have to bring from home to pay your staff.
