I swear this gets better every time I hear it. I can almost see the smoke pouring out from the jacks and hear their screams as they try to flee this ferocious onslaught. Maestro Rondeau drags every ounce of passion and tension from this work. The pauses are fantastically dramatic.
Oh yes, they do! I hope you found Scott Ross! The sound of his recordings are not as fine as on new recordings, but he makes Scarlatti sonatas 'sing' on the harpsichord :)
Some may say : "baroque music is too old and makes me fall asleep" ... Jean Rondeau wakes your soul up and actually plays the most modern music that can be played today ... sounds like the end of this world and the birth of a new one ... ♥
Holy smoke! Fabulous performance! Seemingly effortless and sublimely perfect. I think Scarlatti himself would be impressed. What I wouldn't give to be able to play like that... Genius.
La versión de Jean Rondeau es fantástica. This sonata is really great... I recognise the Spanish folk music in it... and the execution of Jean Rondeau is fantastic. I have tried to buy this version in iTunes Store, and have not found it. Pity.
I completely agree. Scarlatti is intensity. It's like creating a dance of delicate glass spiders that can never touch each other or it all shatters. Maybe a stretch of a metaphor, but it has got to be done right. That said, I've enjoyed a few composers who tone it and slow it down a bit. I actually enjoy slowing the RPM of my Scarlatti on Vinyl to get a different feel for how music like this was thought of and performed. Just unsolicited thoughts, but Scarlatti on slow is pretty good.
One underrated genius of a composer : Scarlatti, writes brilliant harpsichord music here interpreted with skill and eloquence by Jean Rondeau! Here this great Baroque piece shines on its original instrument. What's not to LOVE here? If Mssr Rondeau plays this exquisitely in his 20's imagine what he'll be able to do in his 40's?
WOW!!! Seemingly so effortless but wonderful to behold. I would be fascinated to see a brain scan while this is being played. Thank you SO much Blessings and peace
Actually since the notes are plucked w quills there is no such as heavy or light touch, you cannot play w dynamics on a single harpsichord keyboard, you need different settings or multiple keyboards

Love the harpsichord, so seldom played in England. Always substituted by piano version on Classic F M. He is brilliant. Just listened to Soler's Fandango....incredible

@@jskv7eujxbxstcni7rdcj9 No, it has a very distinct touch, the string is always plucked with the same intensity, regardless of your input as a player. You dont need much strength to press the key, it only has to travel a short distance to produce the note, but the special (and crucial) part on the harpsichord is the lifting of the finger after pressing the key.

Great version of this piece. Also, I think it's kind of magnificent that he is a musician and his last name is rondeau.
Even better would be if his first, third, fifth and seventh names were Rondeau.
Well he's French, so it's not really suprising

You should write record liner notes... Oh wait, everything is on TH-cam now. Sorry. 😥
Amazing - never realised how beautiful Scarlatti's compositions sounded on the instrument they were designed for

Ennah08 - Scott Ross is amazing. Harpsichord in the key of minor is my go to.
Also look up Ottavio Dantone - HV580 G Minor

Scarlatti is as original as the wonderful JSB...
Some of the best playing I've seen on any instrument in awhile. I love the pauses, just building up that energy and then exploding on the keys!
Jean Rondeau is SOMETHING! He´s great!
There are those who question M. Rondeau’s interpretations. The young man is on fire, and so long as he burns, he belongs to life. Play on.
