One of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. I was seated at the second row, and my eyes were fixated on Martha's hands. It's so amazing to watch I can't describe in words.
The mark of a "good" interpretation (I hate the word good, but can't think of a better one) is that the performer can play the piece in a way you've never heard, and leave you convinced that that is how it should be heard..... when I first listened to this, I thought it was waaaay too fast - by the end of 30 seconds I could hear things in the music, lines and shapes, that I'd never heard before which forever changed the way I will listen to this piece..... I would be interested to hear whether this approach works on a harpsichord, due to the different tonality, texture, etc but I can't ignore what Martha has done to inform me of what can lie within it... Marvellous!
Agree so much with what you said. I'm unsure if a harpsichord can reproduce this even if the tuning right because modern grands have instant response and work with repeated fast notes, again, not certain but I think this type of hammer action is not something a harpsichord can do.
@@colorsofsound4782 - a harpsichord can play repeated notes that fast, it depends on how the note is voiced, i.e. the shaping of the "quill" that plucks the string. I only say that because I have one, and I can get many of the notes to play that fast, but I never got around to voicing all the notes properly when I was restoring it. I haven't learned that piece well enough to play it on either instrument but this makes me think I should try!!
No question how good she is, but it's surely played faster than originally intended? I love Scarlatti but this sounds too fast? Though I've just listened to other performances and they are similarly fast. My mistake. I prefer slower where notes can be wallowed in! :-)
Sviatoslav Richter also played certain Bach pieces at a very high speed. And of course Glenn Gold too. Probably each for its own reasons, but I really feel that the fast tempo section is more lively, and kicks more

So glad you got to experience that!
You are so lucky and happy person! Incredible!!!
Scarlatti Sonata in D minor K.141 by Martha Argerich. Who else could play this with such heart???
She doesn't even need sheet music. Those fingers are blessed too. WOW!!
Of course she doesn’t need sheet music 😂😂
Oh, my goodness - Argerich never ceases to astonish. This is pure magic.
Fantastic! She drives the melody like water flowing away between her fingers! I admire her!!!!
Scarlatti is so underrated. This certainly makes me want to go learn some more Scarlatti now!

@@br14nh thanks for the insight, that's something I never knew before.
Enjoyed your comments.

Tiene alas en las manos!!! Fantástico

Single-handedly changed how this is supposed to be played.
I would say 'double-handedly'. she certainly needs both. (?)

GRANDE MARTHA !!!!
Sensacional
Parabéns 👋👋👋❤️
Amazing
Grande.....
Out of this world! :o
Why is that there's no other recording of her on Scarlatti other than this k 141. She has been playing this same piece since 1960s.
Cus she wants to?
@@theo5069apparently you can't read.
3:16 that slip was cute
that's for us to remember she is still human, after all. 😋

👏👏👏👏🌺💐❤️💕💕
* Exquisite *

this is not what scarlatti meant, his tempo was slow and dancing, in fact he wrote 3/8 in key, not a note with a dotted value of 2/4
The other encore?
⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
sounds almost like a harpsichord sometimes
How about the Debussy
We are preparing this for a premiere around the 3rd week of August, stay tuned!
How old was she in this video?
Plus que ça encore...
77 ans !
That's all she plays, never heard another

reminds me of a crazy cat lady.. well her play is EPIC for sure!
I would just love to meet her. I would be so engaged to conversation with her. I bet we could talk for so many hours.
Too fast, no good.
She is a great pianist. However, it is a pity that she happens to confuse art with sport.
