As much as we try to make the best homes for our fish they always seem to do the unexpected! 😂 Love it, excellent contrast to the neighboring tank! Spot on about taking time, sitting back, and enjoying your scape.
😂 Sometime you can't predict what they're going to do! As long as they're happy, I'm happy... I guess 😅 Thanks! I'm extremely happy with these two tanks. Wasn't a huge fan of the initial planted aquascape with wood so changed it up 😅. I'm glad you agree! So easy to forget to relax and enjoy them... Something I had forgotten in recent times! Thanks for watching! 👍
Thanks for the kind words Darren! 😁 I'm really liking it! Looking forward to setting up the new nano reef tank next to this and putting the Random Flow Nozzle I bought from D Flow Designs to good use! Thanks for watching! 👍
Thanks for the kind words. I have never thought about the contrast between malawis and tanganyikans but I think you're right, definitely calmer. Although I do enjoy a busy malawi tank, my Salousi tank is hard to walk away from. Good luck with the future tanganyikan tank, Julies are a stunning fish and I'd say a bit more placid than most. 👍
You need to try a shellie tank I got some multifasciatus 6 months ago in an aqua one 170. Thinking of adding in some leptosoma for the top soon. I really want a tank of julies and brichardi at some point though
These are great little fish! My plan is to have them in my bigger community tank in the near future with the julidochromis transcriptus! One area sand and shells, the other side rocky caves for the rock dwellers. Brichardi are an amazing fish, just be careful if they pair up they might get aggressive to their tank mates! Good luck with your tank! Thanks so much for sharing your experience! 👍
@@alasdairaquatics yeah id do brichardi as a species only tank. I have seen them with multis on a TH-cam channel but my tank isn't big enough and they are pretty aggressive. Have a look at the leptosoma they probably go better with the multis than Julis because they always stay mid to upper water and they are less aggressive.
I really like the Oase styline 125 aquariums, they are great, they have built in led lights which come included, I only use one as they are quite powerful for a low tech planted setup. The lids are slightly inset so there are not as noticeable 👍
A very successful aquarium. I want to do this kind of setup too. Doesn't the fish harm the plants? what about plants and fish now? What kind of sand did you use for the base? I would also appreciate if you share the plant species. I ve asked a lot. Thank you for your interest.
The fish are a bit rough on the plants, I listed the species of plants in the video for you to note down if you would like. Go for species with tough leaves is my advice. I just used aquarium riverbed sand. This tank is still going strong. Anubius seems to work best with the Goldfish 👍 Good luck!
What is the footprint of this tank, I have a 40 breeder and im trying to replicate the same setup you have. It's awesome. Whats your stocking numbers for each species?
Thanks for the kind words! This tank is 70cm long x 36cm wide and 5ocm tall. Im not sure this stocking will work long term, if pairs develop they can become very territorial which is something to look out for. Long term I aim to keep either two pairs of Leleupi or one pair of leleupi and a pair of julidochromis. Depends what happens as they mature. It's common practice to add around 6 juveniles and wait for them to pair off. I currently have: 7 neolamprologus leleupi 3 julidochromis transcriptus 1 neolamprologus brichardi (moving out when I can finally catch him 😂) Another great option for your size tank is a group of brichardi, once these guys pair off, relocate the others and watch the pair form a colony, they are different to most other species and dont eat their young, older juveniles even look after their younger siblings, awesome right? Hope that helps! Glad to hear more people are keeping Tanganyikan fish! Good luck! 👍
Nice aquarium and fish, however those Julies are nowhere near fully grown pal. If you visit Bristol aquarium you'll some absolute monsters which are 8"+
Hi David, I have julidochromis transcriptus, this species has a maximum size of around 3 inches. These guys are at full size, I got them 7 months ago from an experienced hobbyist. Funnily enough I did visit Birstol aquarium about a year ago, it's a very nice place! Thanks for watching 👍
@@alasdairaquatics I stand corrected! Thinking back I think they might be Julidochromis Marlieri in the Aquarium. Although I last went about 4 years ago...Did you see the fish I am talking about?
Do you keep any Tanganyikan Cichlids? Let us know in the comments!

Really like your tank. In the process of setting up a 125 gallon tall planted Tanganyikan shellie tank myself. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the kind comment! Good luck with the new tank, I really enjoy shellies they have such interesting behaviours!

Nice video, i love tanganyikans. I like that a tanganyikan tank doesnt look as busy as a malawi tank. I want to keep julies especially one day.

What is the Oase StyleLine 125 Aquarium like ie light and filter looks like you have taken the lid off

Around 30 gallons 👍
