    That was fun. Thanks a lot Mr. knight. i can see when you engaged the blade it is a bit underpowered.

      Oh yeah you have to do it slowly otherwise the engine stalls.

      @@knighthawk86855 Yea, thats one of the things I don't like about those machines. They started making them with the Briggs Quantum 190cc, same engine used on their 22" mowers, they finally went up to a larger engine, but IMO still not big enough. It should have a 10hp 344cc Briggs minimum IMO. That would be the perfect size to power ratio for one of those. Recoil and electric start options.

    The longer the extension the greater loss in torque. Also just an FYI, I have a Timemaster myself, I monitor engine replacements. The just dropped the price on a Kawi to around $200.
    I’ve been lucky with mine so far...I’ve had every problem BUT a blown head gasket 🤪

    • @knighthawk86855
      @knighthawk86855  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep once you start seeing a loss in performance, tighten the head bolts, and if the performance increases buy a head gasket, cause your going to need it.

      I've had 3 of them, 8.75 and the 10, and same problems with both, it needs a 14hp engine nothing bigger it would be overkill..... If I get my hands on another one, vanguard 14hp for sure.

    Do you have to replace a valve cover gasket when doing this job?

    • @knighthawk86855
      @knighthawk86855  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't have too if it's not torn or damaged, but a good rule of thumb is to use a little black rtv on both sides of the old gasket if you plan to reuse it, otherwise order a new gasket.

    As you can see in this video, this timemaster 8.75 engine, the head bolts on the left side, as in the position of the mower in this video, those 2 head bolts were not tight, so if you own one of these, rather it's a 8.75 or 10.0 version, tighten those 2 bolts, and keep an eye on those 2 bolts I would tighten those bolts every month.

    If you notice, the melted top cover for the deck belts, I mentioning this, cause with use those muffler bolts also come loose, and on this TM, the muffkin had come loose and fell on the plastic, and melted a hole right threw it, and the owner didn't notice it, and wondered why it was so noisy.

    In reply to another comment you said you would replace engine with vanguard 14hp. Can you give specifics on which one will fit?

    • @knighthawk86855
      @knighthawk86855  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't done it yet, but as long as the drive/deck pulley fits the diameter of the crank shaft, and the bolt pattern to mount the engine, you can use any hp engine, you would also either have to mount a choke and throttle level, or fix the throttle at the proper rpm, and just use a rod to engage the choke, other then those things which isn't really that hard to do, but the only problem I forsee is the bolt pattern, which can be fixed by drilling new holes, but the major hurtle would be the diameter of the crankshaft I will have to investigate more into that.

      @@knighthawk86855 That would be fun just to do it, but that engine at 95 lbs. would make the mower WAY TOO HEAVY for practical use (stock engine weighs 30lbs.), and just a pain in the ass to maneuver...not to mention the ruts it would dig into a soft (wet) lawn.

    • @knighthawk86855
      @knighthawk86855  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the bolt holes line up, and the diameter of the shaft if the same..... You might be able to find a larger v pulley if the diameter of the doner engine is larger, I don't see why the 11hp wouldn't work, also you would have to make a retro choke and throttle cable assembly, please let us know if it fits..... Thanks for asking.

    • @knighthawk86855
      @knighthawk86855  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I do not, just torque it to the correct torque specs, it's a bad design so keep spare gaskets on hand, you will see a remarkable improvement in performance, but remember once it starts to run poorly and looses power, it blew or is starting to blow another head gasket.

    • @knighthawk86855
      @knighthawk86855  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And this is where you can find the torque specs for any briggs head bolts, you just need to know the engine model number, and serial number.

    • @knighthawk86855

      And please, please, please remember, these specs are in INCH POUNDS ".... So convert them from inch to foot lbs. If your torque wrench is only in foot lbs.

    • @knighthawk86855

    Hi can you please help me I have the 8.75 and when I would be mowing it would shut off and when I would try to turn it back on, it would make a loud pop. So I took it to a mechanic and he said it was the head. Then I went to pick it up and it would mow good and wouldn’t shut off but then I noticed there was oil leaking from under the OHV and i wasn’t leaking like that before I took it to him. I would really appreciate your help thank you

    • @knighthawk86855
      @knighthawk86855  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep no problem, it looks like he didn't put the kill wire back on the coil, most likely.
      Now for the oil leaking, most likely didn't put a new gasket or sealer on the valve cover.

      @@knighthawk86855 i really really appreciate your help. Yes I was also thinking he probably didn’t add sealer or probably didn’t even add a new gasket. I’m not really trusting taking it back to him since I payed him $250 just to get home to the surprise of noticing the mower leaking right after I mowed with it after he had supposedly fixed it. And my bad what I actually meant about it shutting off was that it would turn off on its own without even attempting to turn it off with the kill switch. I would try to pull start it to continue mowing but it would just make a loud pop noise. That issue of it shutting off was before I decided to take it to the mechanic. I thought it was probably the carburetor not sending enough fuel causing it to shut off but when I took it to the mechanic, he said it was actually just the head. Then when I picked it up and brought it back home and mowed to test it out, I noticed that there was oil on the pulley cover. Basically he fixed the issue if it shutting off but at the cost of it now leaking by the head after he had supposedly fixed the head. Do you have an email where I can send you pictures of the leak so that you can see and maybe you’d be able to determine if he just didn’t add the sealer or maybe if he didn’t even add a new head? Thank you so much
