Considering how unconvincing the premise of the Courage game is, the devs would have been better off claiming it was an unreleased PC game instead. It doesn't much look like a PS1 game but it definitely does look like a PC game of the time.
I think saying that courage would have had a ps1 game in general is unconvincing. More likely PS2/GameCube. The show premiered in 99 but even Ed Edd n Eddy didn't get a full console game until the PS2/GameCube, and it premiered a year before. It definitely would be possible but not as likely.
The painting at 1:16:05 is a Crying Boy painting. They were *really* popular paintings starting from the 1950s. They were treated with varnish that had fire retardant in it so whenever a house with that painting in it burned down, the string holding the painting would deteriorate and the painting would land face-first on the floor and be protected from the fire, meaning it would always be one of the only things to survive the fire. Because of that, some people thought the painting was cursed.
i assume they weren’t popular because of that? that would be funny though if people bought the paintings with the intention for them to burn with their house
@@humanure0 The paintings became popular in the 1950s but became associated with causing fires in 1985 after The Sun (UK tabloid) reported that the painting was regularly found intact in otherwise-charred-to-shit houses. Then, all of the sudden, everybody began claiming the painting was burning up their houses and their families' houses and killing everybody they knew. Journalists have since concluded that the painting's association with house fires is itself made the fuck up.
Joel should play Mundaun for this Halloween. It's a horror game set in a mountain Swiss village. I think he'll really like it, because the game's texture are all hand-drawn, which gives it a very unique style, and there's a lot of references to real life Swiss folklore creatures and stories.
