Your cup will get filled with milk or an alternative regardless. If you wanna remove a bunch of ice you'll add a ton of milk to replace it. You could always pay for extra shots I guess. But my point is the ice in the cup isn't your enemy despite you convincing your self it is, without it you'll end up with a very milky/ watered down beverage.

I thought it was a ratio that made a macchiato. Like more espresso than milk is a macchiato. Like in Italy it's a espresso shot in a small cup with a tiny milk foam on top.

@btb554 depends on the Cafe, and can drastically differ from one place to another. At Starbucks and stores like it the difference is that the macchiato also has vanilla added. A traditional machiatto is a shot of espresso with a dolip of foam on top i belive. If trying to be super particular these drinks do resemble iced lattes more, but calling them machiattos is so common it's pointless to correct people over.
I thought its not allowed to stir the milk and espresso or else it becomes a latte. The espresso is supposed to stay on the top of the milk without mixing. However, I do know there are different variations of the Macchiato so I could be wrong.

See all that caramel sitting at the bottom? Ya that's because you didn't mix it into the hot espresso, you just dumped it in cold and it settles to the bottom. This means you don't get a caramel drink, you just get a floor of caramel on the bottom, not an actual caramel macchiator. MIX IT
