Of course, the scriptures are vague if the Holy Spirit is the 3rd or 1st or 2nd Person of the Trinity--whichever of these is true,the First Person and the Second Person may be the Parents of the Third.

I am /wasn't christian but I look at people beyond ideologies & religions, for what they have within. Ratzinger's speeches deeply touched me, in a way that very few people ever were capable of doing in my whole life experience. So I don't know. Maybe I don't believe in the institution but, definitely, I believe in this extraordinary man. Blessed be Joseph, I miss you 💛 🌅 🙏

Ohhh... so now you know it all! It's just a movie. The church is disgusting. They preach sorrounded by luxury. The movie was probably directed by the church itself.
Good movie with brilliant acting but it's a fiction. Such meeting and confrontation never took place. In fact movie presented many aspects of Benedict XVI's life as Francis's bio. It was Benedict XVI who asked John Paul II to let him retire, he didn't want to be Pope, he was the one who warned about Maciel. Recently he said to german journalist he was seriously in love and it was very difficult for him. B16 is very underrated pope. I was surprised myself how much he tired to change things behind scenes but unfortunely you cannot do anything on your own. Especially against such powerful bureaucracy and institution like Catholic Church.

Pope Benedict was too weak to face the human errors of his flock. No man, presbyter or bishop is infallible to sin and unfortunately it all started to unravel during his reign and it wore the man out and he retreated to be in solace and silence to continue to pray for the many fallen of his flock and to pray for continued redemption of man. Pope Benedict XVI was and still is a great man that deserves respect.

It is because, it is the duty of the dean of the College of Cardinals (which is he) to announce the winner. When he did not show up in the balcony to announce the name, that's when I concluded that he's the new pope.*

Unpopular opinion: Both Popes Benedict and Francis are good. They are led by the Holy Spirit, illuminating different aspects of tradition. I don’t think either is perfect, but they are only human beings called to serve where God has led them. Let’s not argue so divisively-

Francis is a compassionate reformer. I can get on board with thar. Benedict was not up to the task of running the church, really mishandled the clergy abuse scandal. But that's just my opinion.

Reading too much b.s. "pop history". In real history, Constantine let the Bishops hammer out the Church's teachings on their own. Read Bart Ehrman's books like "Truth and Fiction in the DaVinci Code", "Peter, Paul, and Mary Magdalene", or "Misquoting Jesus", for authentic scholarship.

To me, it was a beautiful sign from God, once again, that the only way for Europe to be united is through one true faith. After the pope from my homeland, Poland, there was elected a pope from Germany. Karol Wojtyła and Joseph Ratzinger were children living in two different countries divided by German socialist craziness. I miss Papa Benedetto, the moment I saw him I was sure that a right choice was made. And I didn't trust Francis from the very beginning (his humility for show and how he said 'good evening' after the election, just sad). I hope Benedict were younger and the devil living in the Vatican didn't have so much power over some of the so-called cardinals.
If you think so Just pray for the church, when we pray grace will be showered from heaven. Its a promise of Jesus that evil shall not prevail over church. Please do pray for your country too.

If only he remained Pope and did not retire. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was the better Pope. Overshadowed by Saint John Paul the Great, but he was instrumental in why Pope John Paul II was so great. Ever since Pope Benedict retired, the current Pope has essentially dismantled much of what Pope Benedict sought to protect, such as the sanctity of matrimony and has pushed a more worldly agenda that is often opposed to the teachings of the Sacred Tradition of the Holy Catholic Church.

As a non catholic that grew up going through private Catholic schools, I will never forget being in the square and hearing the bells toll upon John Paul II’s passing. There were tons of people in the square, and more trying to get in. As a non-Catholic, I felt it prudent to remove myself to allow a Catholic to take my place amongst the crowd. As I walked towards the gates, the tolling of the bells throughout Rome started. I stopped, turned back towards the main window to the Popes residence and soaked in the moment. It gives me chills even to this day.
The thing I really don't understand is who came up with the idea that the age limit for becoming pope should be eighty. That's really old.
