- A year after violent clashes began between two communities-Kukis and Meitei in Manipur on 3 May, the state continues to grapple with a fractured social structure and deteriorating law and order. Over the past year, more than 200 lives have been lost, more than 60,000 people have been displaced and there have been multiple cases of violence against women. Despite efforts to restore peace, although limited, violence persists. Vigilante groups continue to take the law into their hands, security forces face frequent attacks from locals and the stolen weapons from police armouries remain in public circulation, creating significant ongoing challenges. Under the previous Congress government, Manipur thrived with harmony among its diverse communities. The former Chief Minister, though Meitei, prioritized the welfare of all, including the Kuki and Naga minorities. This inclusive environment facilitated peaceful coexistence and flourishing businesses, benefiting from opportunities brought by globalization.
However, since the BJP assumed power, the new Chief Minister's hunger for power has led to divisive tactics. Land grabs targeting tribal territories, particularly those inhabited by the Kuki, are justified by baseless accusations of illegal immigration and involvement in narcotics. These claims serve as pretexts for state-backed attacks on the Kuki community. The Manipur state government has exploited more than 6,000 guns, 14,400 bombs, and 6 lakh ammunition in attacking the Kukis.
Moreover, the CM's actions have exacerbated communal tensions, eventually resulting in clashes between the Meitei majority and Kuki minority. Consequently, these once-interconnected communities are now fragmented, facing geographical, political, and demographic divides.
The hatred has escalated to such an extent that frequent incidents of rape, naked parading, brutal murders, killings, and chopping off heads or hands of the Kukis have occurred. Not to mention the burning of more than 10,000 of their houses and vehicles, all total worth 10,000 crores approx. All these occur as a result of targeting the Kuki minority community by the powerful Meitei majority in Manipur, with support from the BJP governments.
How is this fair, in a country where democracy is running in full swing, In Manipur all other communities like naga, kuki , gorkha etc. can all buy land in valley area.....but No meitei can buy land in hill district even in their own state. This is very fucked up.
This war will not be stopped until and unless the issues of poppy cultivation, illegal kuki immigrants , kuki militants under SOO who have been highways looters for decades by illegal taxes and removal of reservation systems are addressed at the earliest. playing victim card by kukis will not help this time.

Let me spit some facts (pills that'd be hard to swallow for many).
Everyone are to be blamed because both community let poltics get the better of them. The Meeties (not everyone) has created a modern urban anarchy by handing weapons to men and tennergers without realisation of it consequences. On the other hand, the Kukis (not everyone) has long sheltered armed militant outfits under its wing. Who then controls the very functioning of its society.
Both party need realisation that there is a nefarious higher power-play in these violence. And normal civilians are nothing but its pawn.
One must ask, who benefits from this act of rage and violence. What are we truly fighting for? Reservation? That can be scrapped at any given point. LAND? That not even our forefathers could take with them. Self Identity? No men need any approval or validation from anyone. For one's identity is to be forged by building character to it.
Then why are fighting? Your leader said so? No. Don't be a blind followers. Be critical, build constructive questions, conduct research before you give your allegiance to anybody. And if at all allegiance must be given, give it to peace.
Yes, conflict is very much part our society. And the remedies are struck through dialogues and tolerance.
Well now that we're here, we can't turn back the clock. Lives are lost and livelihood are destroyed. We must now strive towards bringing in peace through accountability, security, compassion, compensation and above all a new moral standard.

Sir, Kukis used gun to safeguard their village and their community from Meiteis and their govt.
After Indian independence, kukis threw away guns and just simply live peacefully under Meiteis. They don't bother politics, for more than 40 years. Then, NSCN- IM suddenly genocided them, after that incident Kukis started organizing underground but they made a Kukiland demand from the central govt.
Because they have their ever right to demand and claim to the Indian govt as a citizen of India and as an Indian freedom fighters since their neighbours were not allowing them to live peacefully.
