That's unfortunate to hear you're having issues with your 2nd ZR2, hopefully it was just vibration from contact with the skid plate. If it makes you feel better, my '23 ZR2 runs 205F transmission temp all day long. It doesn't matter if it's 70 degrees flat highway or towing 6k lbs in 106 degree weather, it wants to be 205. I just crossed 13k miles in my truck and the powertrain has been flawless.
My 2017 Tahoe 6L80E ran 217F around town and 187F highway. I installed a TBV delete and then it wouldn’t warm up quick enough and would top out around 144F around town. So I added an auxiliary cooler and put the TBV pill back in and she runs 156F all the time now, unless i’m climbing. Low speed climbing with the TBV delete still hit 250F before i intervened, but with the cooler and the TBV pill back in at the sand dunes the max i saw was 200F. So i’m very happy with my setup now.
You guys need a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. They are tough and can hold up to severe Off-Road use. They are also simple naturally aspirated engines with a bulletproof automatic. The transfer case and axles are really strong! Put 35 inch tires on it and that’s all you need!
The vibration was an easy fix by creating a gap between the skid plate and transmission, the temp increase 🤔 Is there any sand/debris blocking the radiator and transmission cooler to prevent it from cooling down like it used to do? I would wash them real good and also change the transmission fluid out to see if that brings the temperature down. I have installed an additional trans cooler from Derale with the built in thermostat and fan to keep my Jeep cooler.
@@legendarytrails I know back in the day over spinning a automatic transmission would screw it up and until I got my zr2s I always had manual transmissions and never had any transmission issues I have not done any real sand to speak of in my zr2s even though I am in florida I have only hit really soft sand a couple times . but I give you credit you really put it to the test
I warned you about the transmission. I wont do any serious offroading now. Im going to keep the truck until the 2027 model comes out. A bird has told me the diesel will be back with whole new drive train
Glad you made it home.
I was just on 50 last Wednesday in my trusty Taco driving through Delta. I was telling my wife about you guys
Awesome!

The new tranmission on the 23s seems better. We might have to look at a newer model eventually.

Sounds like a good setup!

We'd like a jeep gladiator. They are pretty nice.

We washed it really good a few times and that seemed to help.
so you tore up another one LOL
Apparently, lol. I guess Chevy didn't make the ZR2 for actual off-road use-at least, maybe not for sand running.

That chevy trans thermostat isn’t the best. They run warm. My trail boss runs warm.
They tend to run warm. This was weird since it normally doesn't run this warm and our other one didn't either.

A diesel would be nice. We almost bought a used diesel before this one and it was probably the better choice.
Has anybody mentioned getting a Gladiator?
@@BillyBennecke Me!
Get a Nissan Frontier!
We test drove one and they are super nice.
Wouldn't happen in a RAM! Just saying... Again, lol.
That sucks! Again...
Lake Havasu 🌞 Az
True! Only bad oil sensors with that one.
But Rams get flat cams
